exactly. If apple doesn't make a move by tomorrow or wednesday...

I'd give them a little more room than that. In the States, the holiday shopping season "officially" starts on the day after Thanksgiving. But, to retailers it starts around Halloween. This gives them time to get the product to the stores on the TV by Black Friday. So the clock is ticking. There are 3 Tuesdays before and one on Halloween.

heh.. I suck at photoshop :/

I can't take it... There's a glitch in the matrix.... This whole page is an exact repeat from last monday evening. The term "déjà vu" doesn't do it justice.

....And my brain goes -= *!POP!* =-

If it weren't for the fact it's almost 9:00PM Cuppertino time, I might have not immediately discarded it as fake. :p I like how you bumped the superdrive to 8x DL for all three models - we can always dream, right?

was thinking about why .mac was acting crazy all day and rembered xserve is due to ship in october. they could be updating or have switched to the new intel build and we're seeing the first bugs. with this event maybe we wil see the fabled pro core 2 with the launch of xserve? updates on tuesday ;)

Well, there must be some huge techinical issues with getting Merom to market with Apple. Every week I wonder what it could be... either Apple doesn't feel its worth it or there are some issues they are having with supplieers or engineering...
Think Different Steve Jobs... Quit the secrecy, that was so "old" Apple... :D Tell us where we, the consumers, stand.... (not where to go)... hehe

I think at this point it's just a matter of time before they sell the remaining laptops to start selling the merom macbooks.

Intel Core 2 Duo Ads Are Two Weeks Old

I have witnessed a sign!

I was reading this thread, looked up, and my TV had an Intel Core 2 Duo commercial on!!!

Truly it is imminent!!!

"Leave my elevator alone...Leave my elevator alone..."
Intel started running those ads two weeks ago. There are 3 different ones plus abriviated 15 sec versions of each as well.

Here's a few cells for old times sake from my favorite one I created September 28 just for you :D:

What do you guys think would be a good deal for the current macbook pro (base model) when the new ones come out? $1,400 to $1,500? Or is that unrealistic?

yeah, they made their laptops thinner because the new chippes were supposed to be "cooler", but merom is hotter under the paste than duo 1, so a full over hal to prevent this heat suprise from happening again is the reason for delay to market.

AppliedVisual said:
Yep. All the serious stress benchmarks I've seen show Merom to run hotter and these are production chips/systems, not pre-release samples. At idle and light load, Merom is a bit cooler. But under full load for sustained periods, it can be a good 15% hotter as reported by Anandtech and GamePC. Anandtech had 3DS MAX preview and render benchmarks which give a good indication of what I can expect for my work.

...not that it all matters right now anyway. I'm sure we'll be disappointed and left wanting again this week.

This... makes me nervous.

I've been considering myself pretty safely in the "don't-much-care-about-user-replaceable-hard-drives" camp, but, just for ***** and giggles, i decided to take a peek at ifixit's harddrive replacement guide for the macbook pro.

Now I'm a believer.
Even if i don't EVER replace my portable's harddrive (though if Apple doesn't offer 160gb hds soon, i might have to), I want to know that i CAN do it. So, I'd like to officially submit my application to the "oh-lord-give-me-a-replaceable-hd" camp. From ifixit's guide, it looks to me like the replacement process couldn't be more nervewracking if it took place in a minefield.

Yeah it's rediculous. I'm wit you on not wanting to do it myself and I consider myself very much of a get inside and muck around type guy. But in the case of MBP it's just way too complicated with very fragile cables, connectors and scores of super tiny phillips head screws. Incredibly complicated.

i don't know much about pro use. but if you could carry and easily install extra or backup hard drives it could be useful, or very dangerous.

i asked this earlier , but did not get a response. If the new mbp were to be released tues . what time could they be expected to be online for sale at the store?

is there a scheduled lunch (launch) for the xserve tomorrow?
