Why would you expect hardware at a developers conference?

I'm absolutely baffled why people have been expecting hardware

Cause apple have announced hardware at WWDC before , and people are really waiting for so something new to be announced. Last piece if of new hardware was the iPad Air last year.

Turned out to be a great keynote in the end. Yosemite had some nice features but the iOS 8 features were few and nothing spectacular. All the new great API's and Swift (silly name, though) made the entire keynote. This truly was a love letter to developers.

No new hardware announcements? really? Boooooooo! iOS 8 and OS 10 look great but it's time to upgrade the MacBook Pro people.

YOUR POST, EPIC FAIL.
This was a SOFTWARE developer conference for developers to make SOFTWARE for the forthcoming hardware. You came to the wrong place if you expected otherwise. Sometimes Apple reveals new hardware but the two hours they put into today was filled with very good info on new software that was very much needed.

*ahem* Mac Pro.

BL.

Really?

No hardware news. This is a conference for coders after all :)

and they've got a lot to be excited about. A lot.

I appreciate your point except for the fact that the WWDC has, in previous years, been used to announce new products....like the new Mac Pro last year, or a new iphone and MBP in previous years.

The first keynote I can't be bothered to watch. 2hours summarised in text is fine and that sums it up. Before I'd have been waiting to download and watch. Not this time Tim.

huuuuge dissapointment here. Besides some nice new add ons and twitches in the new both OS and iOS system nothing is groundbreaking, noting!

Yes, the new swift languance is compelling, and yes it's impressive that everything works just a bit faster, smoother and in some cases nicer all at once.... but groundbreaking? Leading? Showing a new direction?

Nothing!

It's all very very vague...home systems? Nice, but no products that works with it still, cloud sharing like foto's? Nice, but jawbreaking? Not really, tweaking widgets, cool? Sure, but nothing that will chance my way of working with a mac with the exeption maybe when I can get phonecalls now on my deskt, but hey, there where tools out there that enabled that feature all ready....

So, much vague new direction, a bit more shiny desktop....but seriously? Is that worth watching?

The criticsters stating Apple lost it's inventfullness will be able to state they where right. And this, this is not good for the Apple stocks if Apple doesn't come up with some new annouchement soon.

Love Apple products but this was a dissapointment for me.

Anyway, life goes on, so does Apple. See you later.

Apple stock always goes down after keynotes, guess what it always goes back up. Besides are you a user, developer or a stock trader?

be it apple in this case or samsung in some other case. should they just ignore progress being made elsewhere and what is popular with consumers?

Exactly.

It's obvious that Apple did just what Samsung did a few years back:

They made a list comparing what works better on the competition and/or is popular... then decide whether to implement it or not.

This is what every company does, and why we have made common progress in everything from smartphones to cars to shoes.

It's traditional to have hardware anouncements at the WWDC but all systems shown in their slides were updated in late 2013. I can't see a refresh Macbook Pros before the Mac Mini moves to Haswell and they have the sense to make the iMac PCIe-Flash based across the board to put it inline with all their other models from the cheapest Macbook Air to the Mac Pro.

FaceTime

I didn't see any updates to FaceTime?!

I would really like to be able to talk to more than one person - and the ability to leave video messages.

According to Timmy a third of Android users are using a four year old OS. He seems very familiar with that old OS as IOS is just now catching up to it. Glad to see IOS finally getting some of the features Android has had for more than four years. You're still way behind IOS, (not to mention ugly) but you're catching up a little.

If you're an Android user/lover then why are you here trolling the Apple forums? Honestly, I don't get it. It seems like a gigantic waste of time. You pick the phone you like, other people will pick the phone they like. It's as simple as that.

It'll be in the developers' portal. Not for regular users. That'll be in the fall.

For all the hype that HEALTH book got pre WWDC it sure seemed that it got a fairly insignificant "spotlight" compared to some of the other things. All in all i just feel a lot better after this WWDC than I felt after the last one. Perhaps its just me :)

It's the difference in approach between companies, Android = throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. Apple = Wait to see what's successful and make the best(in their minds) version of it. Would you prefer Apple be like Samsung? Release about a hundred different devices a year just for the sake of it? Or rush out a device and have it fail just so they can say they were the first?

I have Android devices and I have Apple devices the biggest things people make a fuss about on Android are Widgets and Keyboards personally I couldn't care less about either but if you like them, now you have them.

Exactly my point. all this time and they finally show up. I personally am fine with the standard keyboard. My point was that that's about all you're getting new in iOS 8. It was truly very slim on actual new features, inventive new features. Mostly just some regurgitated old Android features. Where's the Apple innovation??

osx 10.10 is cool...regarding to answering phones...or make phone calls via computer!!!! FINALLY!

Nope android users only troll apple forums, never seen it the other way around. I'd like to be proven wrong though.

Funny thing is the mods allow it. Maybe the android forum mods are just more liberal with the ban hammer.

I am an android user for ~ a year. I switched from my Blackberry since I wanted something fresh and recently started developing for that platform. I also use an iMac and develops iOS apps on my iPod.

I do criticize Apple a lot, when they do stupid stuff, just like I make fun of Samsung when they're blatantly copying or rushing products out for the sake of it. Now, it doesn't mean I can't recognize when Apple does something good like this WWDC ;) Most of their features makes the hamsters in my developer brain runs in their wheels like crazy.
