iOS notifications (the pulldown menu bar) aren't that great and I don't see any improvements there over android. It needs the ability to dismiss individual notifications, within the same group of items. For example, if you have a bunch of email notifications, you can't delete an individual email from the list...you have to delete them all.

I do like the notifications that show up on the lockscreen though. And swipe to go to the precise notification is really nice. That is something that is better than Android. However, it still needs work as you lose those notifications as soon as you unlock the device. I think it would be better if they stayed on each time you unlocked the phone, despite having previously unlocked the phone.

Yes, and any laptop puts your nexus screen, processor, and ram to shame using your argument!?[/QUOTE

Yep it does thats why i use my laptop at home?...any laptop is better than any phone...

----------

This is a pretty poor analogy. Why would you compare a smart phone to a professional grade camera? Not everyone has a DSLR and also for many people the camera on phone is important because it is the only camera they have. And in the end the best camera is the one you have on you. If you are one of these people then the quality of the camera on a smartphone is important to you. Why would you not want the best one?

Up until recently I use to carry with me a Sony point and shoot on trips. After testing it against the iPhone 4S I am confident that I can leave the point and shoot at home when I go on trips. Score, one less thing to carry! I, along with others, may not feel the same with other camera phones.

like i said if i know I'm going somewhere where i want proper photos i take the ixus, which is not DSLR by the way,is a very small and compact camera, smaller than the iPhone actually,if I'm just out and about the nexus takes perfectly good pictures for 99% of people...

I have already explained why I think iOS notifications are better a few pages back. It is mostly regarding simplicity in setup and options available.

You do have a point regarding removing individual notifications however you fail to mention that in iOS you can remove a group while in Android as far as i am aware you have to remove them all.

Your example of removing individual email notifications in Android is not a great one since if Android when i used if before with gmail the notification i get is you have 5 new emails, not individual emails with subjectline and preview of content.

Would people please stop with the "you already know you're going to get the Gnexus, so go ahead and do it already"? Regardless of whether the OP is biased or not, I feel threads like these are useful in bringing additional features and functions that many times get lost as minutiae in reviews and other comparisons. Posts like those a page or so back regarding Airplay, Google's Cloud service, and others have been very helpful to me in this regard. I was also unaware that we could change the notifications settings on the iphone (which is great!), though I still disagree with the one poster that they have surpassed Android's notifications - especially when you factor in the external LED notification lights some phones (including the Gnexus) feature. This statement is clearly being made by someone that has never used both. The youtube video comparison for the two phones was also invaluable - and strictly unbiased, I might add.

Anyway, lots of good information here. Please stop posting here just because you want to silence the OP and kill the thread. If you aren't interested, I'm sure this forum has an 'ignore' feature, just like every other one.

Problem is people assume none of us know about rival products or have done our research. In fact, many people do that and come to these forums just to talk/discuss about their product further, not to start discussing other crap.

I come to iPhone forums to talk iPhone, if i wanted android, i would goto xda-developers, androidforums or androidcentral etc. Duh.

People just come here to troll. That is it.

How many "iPhone 4 this and iPhone 4S that" thread do you find on android forums? None or probably one every 2 months? Exactly. Why is macrumors supposed to suffer with fandroids talking crap all the time?

I cannot wait to throw the POS galaxy and buy an iPhone soon. There. Start flaming.

Terrible post. I actually own an iPhone 4S and am thinking about the Galaxy Nexus so a thread like this is very helpful to someone like me. I don't understand why people like you even open these threads. It's blatantly clear what this thread is about so why are you even clicking on it if you're not interested in the subject!?

If you are "thinking" about a gnexus then you should try it in person and see if you would like it. Why is it so hard for people?

I do not trust forum opinions for these things simply because from experience i found that i they end up wasting my time. I found it is better to trust my experience than what someone else tells me. It is like watching a movie. Critics say it sucks but you go watch it and you find it good. Or critics say it is very good but you think it sucked hard. Personal preference. Simple.

Funny that iPhone owners get labeled as "sheep" when it is the android guys doing all the peer pressure thing without individual thought as to what, why etc.

Anyway have fun with whatever you have. But make sure you make one "thinking about iPhone 4S" post in xda. I gaurantee you will probably find one sensible reply in pages of the cesspool it will generate. Android fans on xda treat their OS more as a religion than most people here in macrumors from my personal experience.

Bingo! It is pointless to bring a computer into the discussion when you are talking about the screen size and processing spec of smart phones. Just like it is pointless to talk about actual cameras when discussing the cameras of the smart phones.

Generally people don't bring cameras to work and classes. But so many times my iPhone helped me take good quality photos. For example, snapping a photo of blackboard and projector screen in classes and meetings; getting a part number from a part under the car or behind an instrument.

Hello guys, after reading Slashgear and Engadget reviews of Galaxy Nexus, I am really really excited about it. Google and Samsung have nailed it this time! This phone is perfect.

I am still trying to decide between these two and need help. Here is a list of pros of each device. I'd appreciate it if you could add to the list. Thanks.

Galaxy Nexus:
- Faster in everything except graphics
- Larger screen
- Better browsing, Gmail and Google services

iPhone 4S:
- Much better camera
- Much much better graphics
- More elite design and build quality
- App Store

I'm considering the nexus, that said ...

Who says the nexus is faster? Paper statistics =/= real world performance. Larger screen is definitely a benefit to some, but not to all, and a battery drainer. I'm not sure what you mean about "better browsing", that's vague and hard to follow. Obviously it has better google services, it's a google phone:rolleyes:

Add for the iPhone:

o No carrier-mandated crapware, bloatware or spyware

o Apple service and support (in my town, the Genius Bar is a godsend)

o Generous long-term support in the form of OS upgrades

o Siri (you'll be surprised how useful she is)

I'm getting a Nexus and sticking my 4S sim in it. I'll play with it for a couple of months and sell the one I end up not using on eBay. Easy.

Nexus devices are known for the pure "google experience", and are typically sought specifically for being crapware free.

I guess I'm the only one, because I've actually been amazed at how useful Siri isn't. I was shocked when Siri came up with nothing remotely close when I said "find me the phone number for Apple technical support" yesterday. I needed to call them about a problem with my MacBook air, and got zero joy after several different permutations of my request. Other similar queries about local destinations, "find me the phone number for the AT&T wireless store in bel air, md" also yielded nothing. I've actually given up on it for phone numbers and web searches and just downloaded the google search app on the app store, which works incredibly well. Maybe it's my voice?...

Though I love it for setting reminders (most of the time), calendar appointments, and timers.

I've experienced the same frustration with Siri. I get that it's just beta and we shouldn't expect things to be perfect, but I don't think it's fair to push beta software as the main selling point for a new phone. Ideally, they should have released the beta to all iOS devices along with the iOS 5 beta, but their servers probably couldn't handle all the traffic.

Right with you on that. Coming from an iPhone 4 and with refusing to switch to the 4s since I refuse to consider it an "upgrade" like others input and first hand experience can be the much more beneficial. Yeah I could wait to get it in hand but then whats the purpose of these boards if not to discuss these types of topics. The GNEX has been out overseas for a couple of weeks now and with that type of time in hand I expect there to be a fairly accurate review. For now keeping my fingers crossed for Dec 8.

How can you say that about a superior product? It's made of plastic, therefore it is far FAR more superior to any other cell phone in the world.

Higher resell value was one of the factors bugging me actually...

Yeah, that, and the full backup/restore feature is what's keeping me on the iPhone. I would love to try out Android phones, but only if they have a backup/restore feature like iPhones and can integrate tightly with Macs.

I've been working both platforms (iOS and Android) for quite a while now. They obviously both have their strengths and weaknesses but one of the things that iOS consistently bests Android on is the reliability of push notifications from 3rd party apps. I'm not 100% sure if this is an app quality issue, or a Apple Push infrastructure vs Google's C2DM issue but I am yet to find Android Apps that can reliably deliver breaking news updates and sports score updates (I've tried them all. The best is Sportacular but about 30% of the time it fails to notify).

The no-nonsense reliable push setup in iOS keeps bringing me back..

This is true, android push notifications for 3rd party apps suck. Maybe ICS changes that?
