My phone upgrade comes next month. I just have an iPhone right now. I want the note 2 but also plan on getting an iPad. Anyone have any combo recommendations? Like a Galaxy Note 3+ iPad, iPhone 5S+iPad, or Galaxy Note 3+ Galaxy Note 10.1?

I have a galaxy s4 plus note 10.1 and these work very well together, in particular with WiFi direct

It's all personal preference. I'm upgrading to a Note 3 and will most likely pick up an iPad 5. I'm not caught up into the whole ecosystem. I just prefer these two devices for a phone and a tablet.

I have a fairly new Note 8.0 and I've really come to love the S-pen and note features. Not sure I'd want a phone as big as the Note III but the Note 10.1 2014 definitely has my interest.

Take my money now!!

Is it me or is the Note 3 what the Courier could have been?

I don't see how anyone can say that the things the Note 3 can do is not innovative.
The stuff that the s-pen can do on a smartphone is innovative to me. I don't see anyone else doing it.

It's pretty damn innovative. I miss my stylus from Note 2, I'm so tempted to get a N3. If the 5S turns out to be a 5 with a fp sensor I'm going to really consider the N3.

Did they announce a price for the Note 3 yet? I'm assuming the same as the Note 2, which was what close to $800 at release?

----------

I must say the black Note 3 looks very nice!! I'm liking that multi window feature where she drags pictures from a website into the chat program. Makes you realize how wrong Jobs was about multi windows and a stylus.

----------

Wow the Gear looks kind of cool functionally, too bad it's hideous. I wish you could remove the watchstraps and just carry it around as a kind of mini phone.

Nice commercial. I wonder, has Samsung ever shown the Note up against someone's ear in any of their commercials? I'm sure they have, but I just don't remember it.

Incredible. The note 3 plus gear is true innovation. NOW we are really getting into star trek stuff

yes, it's in there and it doesn't look bad

the beautiful thing is that google has made dependence on an ecosystem obsolete

Ok, I don't know anything about Negrielectronics. However, it lists the Note 3 as available 9-28. In their about us section, they are in the US. For the US, does this mean that the Note 3 will be available at the end of Sept? (I don't care about the unlocked version).

No one knows yet because nothing is official. I hope it's released sooner rather than later, but $800 is a bit steep especially when an off contract iPhone starts at $650.

New Note 3 and Galaxy Gear tutorial from Samsung.

I said this for the S4 video demo and I'll say it again here for this one...

We are seeing [Samsung] smartphones do new and old things in ways that have never been seen before. There is no other demo like this. The S Pen is put to extremely clever and good uses (there are so many impressive things to list that I won't even bother -- you just have to watch the video in full).

I also happen to really like the new aesthetics of the Note III, faux-leather back and all. Something about the whole package is very retro, powerful, even classy.

The Note III is doing to me the same thing last year when the Note II came out: It's making me want one, even though I know I don't need a phone that large.

Do I?

Either way, kudos to Samsung. They are really pushing the smartphone arena and are putting competitors to shame.

I've never understood why unlocked smartphones cost more than full featured tablets. Are the cellular radios inside that expensive?!

Edit: I understand why they're subsidized, but if this pricing is correct you can almost get a 64gb iPad for the same price!

Because payment is almost guaranteed and pricing will just go up. Since many phones are subsidized, most consumers (in the US at least) DON'T know the full price of the phone. So they sign these lengthy contracts at the same price they've been having for years.

It's akin to university prices. Tuition goes up because the goverment and loan companies pretty much give loans out like candy. Companies are no longer in the market with the invisible hand, but a very active subsdiser. My local university will be very expensive because they KNOW that students will go to college and pay for whatever the price is. Therefore, they can go and purchase a new building and get very expensive materials. No one will stop them.

It's a free market, why not get the most money? Contracts need to stop. Or big cell phone companies should be more akin to T-Mobile. Notice how many prepaid version of cellphones (including the iPhone 5) are very cheap compared to their contracted counterparts?

For example, it would cost $649 to get an off-contract iPhone @ ATT...or you could get it for $579 at cricket. Supply and demand.

You have a point. Still wondering. The GNote 3 really hit it out of the park for me.

I think its because minturization is usually more expensive. The hardware in these phones is just as powerful, if not more, than most tablets, yet are much smaller.

I agree, surprisingly (to me) I was impressed with many of the new features at one's disposal with the S-Pen. Unlike may of what I consider gimmicks that were introduced with the S4, these appear to be truly useful, though I hope they offer some ability to easily sync with other devices/computers, especially non-Samsung (believe I heard one of the features could be synced with Evernote).

I've gone the phablet route and don't need this functionality in my phone, or need a phone this large. Their existence though does peak my interest in the new Note 10.1, assuming these features carry over to that tablet. I still really dislike TouchWiz but could possibly overlook it to have these benefits in a tablet.

I would take the prices you see at Negri Electronics with a grain of salt as it appears they charge a premium for all of their devices. IIRC, last year the Note II was $299 on contract on AT&T and I believe I paid $650+tax for mine off contract. Can't see it being much different if at all this year.

What's amazing is Samsung is upgrading and improving nearly every aspect of the Note without compromising anything that it already had.

The perfect example is the faux-leather back. Love it or hate it, the general consensus is that it's better than glossy plastic, and it's an indirect acknowledgment from Samsung that they've heard the cries over the cheap plastic look and feel and are working on it. I believe this was a response. What's amazing is that it doesn't compromise it's removable back. You can still take out and replace the battery and access the microSD slot.

Likewise the dimensions. It's gotten a larger screen but has gotten thinner and lighter.

The same thing happened with the S3-to-S4. Props to Samsung. Their "minor refreshes" this year for their flagships are doing more than meets the eye.

$650 + tax, and this phone is mine! :D

Negri does tend to be a bit expensive. But they seem to get the latest and greatest way before anyone else.

Personally, I would wait for a few months for the hype to die down before considering a purchase.
