I'm guessing I will just use the same sim and just swap it from my s4 to the note 3? It takes the same sim, right?

For Apple to successfully sway me to the iPhone, they must allow me to manually manage my files. :)

True, same here. And there are a few more points to add to that list....but I'll refrain from opening that Pandora's box further in this thread

Also, there's no news of any motion-enabled features. I assume they're omitted due to the plethora of options offered by the S Pen.

Actually some of the S4's motion features come with the Note 3 as well, I just found this article where they're listed. Included are Smart Scroll (eye scrolling), Smart Stay, Air Gesture, and Smart Pause. The Note 3's screen also works when you have gloves on, like the S4 screen (I really like this).

Another nice detail listed in that article is that the Note 3 uses 802.11ac WiFi - so, longer range and faster data transfer than previous standards. If this really means better WiFi range than other smartphones to date, I will particularly love this one :)

Same here. Samsung have added some interesting software improvements that look genuinely useful, unlike those on the SG4.

My only concern is battery life. The Note 3 has the same capacity as my Butterfly S, yet will have to power a bigger screen, better camera and more powerful processor. Unless Samsung has made some serious optimisations to Touchwiz (unlike the issues they had with bogging-down the GS4), I can't see the it will offer better mileage over my current device.

It seems what they've done is include a processor that optimizes the way the battery is used to power the LTE radio, thereby potentially reducing the general power drain of the device by 25%.

I've also read somewhere that because Samsung makes their own batteries etc. they were able to optimize battery use in other ways too for the Note 3, but I can't find that article now.

Anyway, here's the first one. Pretty interesting stuff, let's hope it actually works:

I said this for the S4 video demo and I'll say it again here for this one...

We are seeing [Samsung] smartphones do new and old things in ways that have never been seen before. There is no other demo like this. The S Pen is put to extremely clever and good uses (there are so many impressive things to list that I won't even bother -- you just have to watch the video in full).

I also happen to really like the new aesthetics of the Note III, faux-leather back and all. Something about the whole package is very retro, powerful, even classy.

The Note III is doing to me the same thing last year when the Note II came out: It's making me want one, even though I know I don't need a phone that large.

Do I?

Either way, kudos to Samsung. They are really pushing the smartphone arena and are putting competitors to shame.

It's a beautiful phone, that's for sure. The same thing happened with me and the Note 2, I lusted after it until I said F it and paid full price for one when ATT had a $100 off sale. It was a great phone, but ultimately too big. I fear that's the same in this case, even though it's definitely attracting me. I think for $800 though I will just keep my iphone and pick up a small Android tablet, or hopefully some nice 8" windows tablets will be out soon.

I know the Note is built around the S-Pen, but I had a question you guys may be able to answer.

If you want to do the pop up multitasking, what they are calling 'Pen Window', do you think there will be any way to do this without using the S-Pen?

Thought it would be another nice-to-have feature without having to pull out the S-Pen if you don't need to.

My guess would be no. Not sure if you can even open the menu thingy where you activate Pen Window without a pen.

Anyone know if the Note 2 is getting any of the update love that the S4 & S3 are getting in October. It was conspicuously absent from the 4.3 announcement and hasn't had a software update since it's september launch last year.

If they s3 is then the note 2 should.

Yeah just seems strange that it wasn't mentioned at same time.... I wonder if many of the software features could carry over to the Note 2 or would they simply not update it so that it makes upgrading to the Note 3 more of a sway ? Very apple kind of force your hand upgrade strategy.

Very odd to say the least. As you said if note 2 was getting it why not mention it with the S3 and S4?

The goal for businesses is to make money. That is all.

So what do you guys think about the color choices?
Jet Black or White?

I'm having a hard time deciding which to preorder, I really enjoyed the grey color of the II.

Black, definitely :) While the grey was OK, I was always so frustrated that they didn't offer the II in black.

Went to ATT today and placed my pre-order.

Was pleasantly surprised that when I got back to work I already had an email saying expected shipdate is 9/11 versus the 10/1 the guy at the store mentioned.

Not sure if this is a true ship date but would be nice.

Now what do I do with my old S3 to get top dollar for it?

CL or swappa.

I'm not surprised by the early ship date. AT&T has had a knack for getting all the recent smartphones earlier than the rest. One, GS4, Moto X, etc.

I hope that holds true.

Ive been holding on to my upgrade for a while so this phone was worthy in my opinion and I let it fly.

Thanks so much for this!:D Do you think this applies to online preorders too?
Cause I just placed mine online through ATT.

I thought I read a page or 2 back that someone did it online and they got the same date I got, 9/11.

Did you get a ship date yet after you placed yours?

I wouldnt see why it wouldnt be the same.
