Just spoke with an ATT rep and they confirmed my order is shipping today or tomorrow. I pre-ordered on the first day at an AT&T store.

Well thats good to hear considering we are in the same circumstance of ordering on day 1 and doing it instore.

Patience shortening...

Did anyone see the ArsTechnica review? They have a video of the Note 3 running the Gallery app and its taking like 2.5 minutes to even show anything after you execute it.

What is up with that?

Video here: http://bcove.me/e41lnia4

Just a bug. If they just did a factory restore I'm sure it would have fixed it.

It certainly is not indicative of all Note 3's as I have watched dozens and dozens of videos at this stage and this is the only time I've seen this bug.

HA!

Seriously, what is Gallery doing that would cause such lag in response? Is it indexing all media "on the fly" each time?

Seriously.....ReallyBigFeet is trolling...look his other posts and you will see he is just trying spread FUD.....

The main page says shipping Oct 2, which means if you order now you get it the same time as us who ordered it a month ago, and all of us about the same time as the stores get it. I'm so glad I pre-ordered.

I don't mind pre-ordering since I always give a call to the retention dept during that time to try and get some deals before I order. Also, want to make sure my grandfathered minutes, messaging, and data plans all stay intact and transfer over smoothly beforehand.

Is there another video review that shows the Gallery working as intended, because this surely isn't by design.

The better question is, is there another video showing the gallery NOT working as intended? The phones been out for a week. Unofficially, even longer, and this is the first report of this? You'd think someone else would've opened up the gallery app and noticed a problem way before this.

The slowness of the Gallery app dates back to the S3. I had a similar issue but it was eventually resolved. So this isn't "new news," although its very "new news" for the Note 3.

I was in denial but I'm starting to agree with you. :(

If you guys can't answer the question, that's fine, but assuming this is a troll post just because you lack the ability to answer things is a bit close-minded, eh?

Meanwhile, I'm starting to realize that I'll have to do some work on this device to make it suit my needs.

Uh no, the video I posted was just created today. The thread from last year was in response to your statement that this is a "new issue." It clearly isn't.

I still am hoping someone actually has some information to share...how does Gallery actually work? Does it index and re-index all media on the fly or just one time?

Why not take it to a Samsung forum? Wow that would make so much more sense...instaed you are here with one negative post after another about a phone you say you are going to get? yeah...right.......
If it walks like one and talks like one......then it ptobably is one...trolling.....

Why not take this whole thread to a Samsung forum? Although this is an alternative section, it is a Mac forum first and foremost. People post all kinds of negative things about Apple products here. You can't go getting all bent out of shape when someone posts something negative about a device you like. He posted video from a tech site showing a software issue, settle down.

Speaking of that tech website, I'll just leave this here

Find me more reports of this issue with the Note 3. Shouldn't be to hard since there's plenty of hands on reviews out now.

Instead, you dug up a thread from last year regarding the Note 2.

Here is another review commenting on the slowness of the Gallery app. That said, overall I think the Note 3 is an excellent phone.

http://mashable.com/2013/10/01/samsung-galaxy-note-3-review/

"I have to admonish Samsung for the slow gallery app — something that's been a problem with virtually every Galaxy I've used. For some reason, the Gallery is insanely slow in calling up thumbnails when I select an album. There's a quad-core processor in there; it's ridiculous that I'm waiting up to 10 seconds to see an image. Fix it already!"

Not true......click on his name and view his profile and his recents posts in the all of the Galaxy Note 3 threads......all negative. No one is getting bent out of shape. I welcome all viewpoints...but when one is setting an agenda...then it needs to be called out. I like the N3 but will not be getting one....for now. It is just too big for my tastes. See not exactly a big fan but I try to stay balanced. there are tons of phones I do not like....but you don't see me in threads about those phones putting them down....what purpose would that serve? So look at his prior posts on the Note 3....dig a little deeper....he seems to have an agenda....

Simply wait for one of the members here with one such as GAME to tell us if there are anything like the gallery bug in his version.

I am sceptical that the S4 gallery has no issue like this, so why it would be in the Note 3 ?

Only explanation would be a bug introduced in 4.3 since the S4 is on 4.2.2 - but still remain sceptic.

I have found zero problems with the gallery... Every bit of the phone has been super snappy.

I want to know how people survived with phones from a few years ago when everyone nit picks about the slightest lag now

Guys, there's a new bug that affects handwriting recognition. Apparently the handwriting to text conversion stops working after Sep 30 due to license expiration of the conversion software which was licensed from a third party. Stupid Samsung must have been too busy rigging benchmarks to worry about these 'unimportant' things

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2463644

But the strange part is that direct pen input (handwriting to text recognition in the input field of gmail, messaging, or anything else) still works fine.:p

Regarding the gallery app, it seems to be a bug with the Ars reviewer's phone. Mine loads as it should, but I never use that app. I prefer Quickpic by far for default image handling...it's much better.

One negative I have begun to notice about the GN3 is the lousy onboard speaker. It seems to be worse than that of even my GS3!!

edit : possibly an update on the way later this week ?
