Very Good through the headphones (I use a pair of Jays), the speaker is no way near the quality of the HTC boom sound speakers however.
Speaker sounds pretty good to me, now that it is on the bottom instead of on the back of the phone. Volume is very good.

As much as love the hTc One, I sold it for the Note 3 because of Display & Batter Life.

Yes it's good, but asked directly how does it compare with boom sound on the htc 1, the speaker is a little tinny and lacking definition. I also found the s4 to be louder.

Yeah it was the camera that I gave up my 1 for.

^ I rarely use it and TBH, some expect way too much.

I don't see anything wrong with this? hTc One @ Hoover Dam.

I wonder when will Samsung & Apple copy hTc One's BoomSound speakers.

Yeah, same reason I gave up my black HTC One. Fantastic phone, but once you get used to a larger screen with android, even going to a 4.7" screen was kinda tough. Loving the Note 3 though, only real complaint is build quality, app performance (some apps are laggy, though that seems more to the developers and not the phone) and low light shots, my iPhone 5s is better in those regards.

Having problems with emails using the gmail app ironically. I can not send photos to myself. When I select a photo and try to email it to myself, I don't get the photo in my email. This is over wifi here at home. My iPhone sends the same photo instantly. Also, I am not getting emails on my Note 3. They come up on my 5s but I get nothing on the Note. I have the newest version of the gmail app installed too. Pretty disappointing considering this is a Google phone.

Strange, i assume you've gone into settings and made sure sync is enabled.

Is it a gmail email address or are you using gmail to route emails from another account / provider ?

I have no trouble with gmail email with the gmail app, but I use samsung email app mostly as my main account is a .Mac account.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's user error.

Sorry you don't like my post. To say a mobile phone speaker lacks definition is funny right there.

It seems I had to disable the Gmail app on my 5s. However, I still can't send photos at all over wifi or LTE. As fas as first impressions go, I love the display when I'm using two hands. One handed is still unusable for the most part. For instance, I was walking my dog today and browsing the net. I browse left handed and it's impossible for me to reach my thumb over to hit the back button. Even reaching up to hit the back button in the browser is a pain. I have gotten used to the swipe features in safari. It's so easy to just swipe back and forth rather than having to hit a physical back button or an on screen key. I still don't like the camera as much at the 5s camera. Battery life is pretty good so far.

Didn't you also have a ton of problems with your G2? Didn't you trash the G2 and praise your iphone 5s? Why are you straying from the iphone if that is what you like the most? The errors you are having with your Note 3 are most likely user error. The rest of the people here are not having those same problems with their Note 3......similar to the problems you had with the G2 i might add...no one else was having the same issues you were having.....

I give most new phones a try. Many people have issues with phones or apps on those phones millions others may not, it happens. I know Android inside and out, it's not a user error but thanks

I use the Button Saviour app from the Play Store on my S4 to avoid having to stretch my thumb too much. You can set it up to call up the soft buttons at your favourite position on the screen.

Sorry you don't like my post. To say a mobile phone speaker lacks definition is funny right there.

I neither like or dislike your post. I'm sorry if you think it had any emotional impact.

I just don't agree.

You clearly haven't used other devices with better speakers. I love my Note 3 but the speaker on the S4 is louder and the boom sound speakers on the HTC One have far more quality and definition.

If you haven't used a HTC one that's your issue not mine. Anyone here that has will testify that boom sound packs far greater sound definition than any other phone out there. Boom Sound may not be any higher in audible volume, but the clarity of the sound is much superior.

Does that mean my Note 3 is trash? No. Its a fantastic device, but I was asked for MY opinion of how the Note 3 compares directly with the S4 & One, and I gave MY honest experience of actually owning those devices.

You can disagree with me and say the Note 3 speaker is great, no problem. That's YOUR opinion, which has NO impact on MINE.

I finally got to lay hands on the Note 3.

Just initial impressions based upon 15 minutes of playing.

-Screen is bright and clear.
-Zippy performance and responsiveness.
-I like the "My Magazine" feature a lot and really hope it comes to the S4 once the 4.3 update drops.

Cool, but still unwieldy and too large for my tastes.

for those that say it's too big for your hands... are you smaller people? I ask because I have fairly normal size male hands and the phone is just fine for me? just wondering if the people that are complaining about size have abnormally small hands or what?

Well I have only average sized hands and I find it strangely more ergonomic to use than either my S4 or HTC 1. I think with the iPhone 5 yes you could use it in one hand, the HTC One & S4 were a middle ground where it was never truly comfortable in either one hand or two hands for me. With the S4 in particular I was forever knocking the power button when trying to adjust volume or hitting off the capacitive buttons on the bottom by accident. The extra size the Note 3 gives means I don't really try using one hand and when I do I manage but I still prefer two hands. The fact that you have to use 2 hands when using spen clearly indicated the best experience is two handed. But the Note 3 does at least give you option for one handed operation in the settings

Different people are confortable with different things. For the most part I have no problem using the Note one handed, but I think it has more to do with how I have adjusted my grip.

When I'm in a still and stable position, rather than truly grip the phone, I just lay phone on top of my fingers giving my thumb more range.

Now when I need a more secure grip and wrap my fingers around the edge, it definitely gets more cumbersome to use. Most of the time, I'll just use the tip of my fingers and for the most part I still get range from my thumb, but I still have to shimmy the phone up and down my hand to reach what I want to hit.

And if I truly need to grip phone securly, then I can pretty much forget about navigating around the system, as I can only reach about half the screen at that point.

Yeah, one of the things about using a large phone is you have to adjust the way you use the phone one handed. One thing you could do, using your example, is instead of hitting the back button, hit the menu button, then hit the back button in the menu which should be easy to reach from the left.

Also, there is an option in settings where if you turn on you'll be given the option to resize the ui to one corner of the screen to make it easier to use one handed, if even includes a back and menu buttons on screen. Really nice feature for those times when readjusting your grip could mean dropping your phone.

I agree though, I prefer gestures found in iOS rather than a physical button. Though I like the way webOS did it best, having a gesture area.

90% of the time I don't have any issues with the size of the phone. But there are certain times where I wish it was a little smaller. I do find the Note 2 was more comfortable to hold due to its curved edges.

I also found an app in the play store called handy soft keys that gives you the option to use swipe gesture on the edge of your screen to bring up the home, back, and recent app keys without requiring root. So you don't have to reach to try and hit the back key one handed.

Battery life has been excellent as well. Noticed battery only drops 1% every four hours at night.

Has anyone experienced Google play music crashing on the Note 3?

It crashed for the first time about 2 hours ago, I had my phone in landscape in the Car Cradle, trying to select a playlist, the playlist I looked in was empty, then it wouldn't let me back out. Then the whole thing came crashing down.
