What's important here is that the S III display offers a level of flexibility that no other screen on the market can provide.

I love how you can actually have different settings for the display. That way people who enjoy more natural colors can do so. Brilliant!!

Why are people bolding this? Is there anybody here who thinks that Samsung has just invented color profiles?

Why would someone post this on an iPhone forum on an Apple rumors site? If I want to read about a competitors phone there are plenty of other places I can go.

: face palm :

Is it so inconceivable that some people just don't like Samsung's quality, or lack thereof, in the phones they make? I've had one and can safely say that plastic is not the way to go. Quality electronics are not made out of plastic. I highly doubt that an a/v receiver made out of plastic would get a THX certification, for instance.

The one thing I'm finding common from all reviews and first impression articles is that pictures don't do this phone justice. All have found phone very comfortable to hold. I definitely prefer the GN like curves over the more rectangular look of other phones. Cannot wait to dish over my $$$.

I own a One X and a 4S and wouldn't trade either for the Galaxy S3 after playing with it at CTIA. The One X screen literally destroys the S3 Pentile screen. You 'can' tell the difference between the two. I think that review the hype got to them. The One X beats it in every way except for memory. The One X is built better too. The Galaxy S3 felt cheap.

Compared to the 4S, the One X and Galaxy S3 pale in comparison in build quality, materials, etc. The Galaxy S3 is a fail in my opinion. A big one at that. I only spent maybe 30 min with the phone, but in that time I was not impressed at all.

How about sense vs touch wiz? Tw's features are pretty robust. If its a better experience people may overlook its aesthetics over the one x which I agree looks much better. Wondering how the software experience will compare.

It amuses me that you see people complaining about the plastic back, when the 3G & 3GS had just that and was hailed - and the iPhone 4/4S glass back is widely criticized too.

Is aluminium the preferred backing?

Yes, I think that many of those complaining about both glass and plastic casings would prefer an aluminum casing. Personally, I'm pretty fond of the glass back, but I can see the attractions of an aluminum one to match other unibody Apple products.

Pretty sad that this is the best Android phone out there :(

HTC one X is much better both aesthetically and screen wise but HTC messed it up by putting in a non-removable battery. Not only non-removable but also 15% smaller than the Galaxy S3.

I'm a huge fan of larger screens (I've said this in other threads: the trade offs of more screen estate, easier reading, easier typing, better browsing, better pics/vids/games, etc. are all worth it for a slightly less easy to handle device with one hand -- it's really not even hard to handle with one hand at all)...

... but I too think the GIII is a bit too large. A 4.8" screen is monstrous. Time will tell how it actually feels.

Thanks!

I just don't like Samsung phones. I really wanted the Galaxy Nexus but didn't get it because of the manufacturer. I'm glad that someone agrees that we can have our opinions about phones and aren't Samsung Sheep.

I'm not.

I disagree on this. Try using one of those mini android tablets one handed WITHOUT having your pinky underneath the bottom of it: Can't be done. Your thumb won't be able to reach 1/2 the screen without some serious effort that isn't natural on the part of the owner.

With the iPhone you can grip the phone fully and still have your thumb easily reach the entire screen.

Not to mention the fact that smaller screen = better battery life.

I agree, anything over 4' is pretty much a tablet.

I had a Samsung Focus for two months. It was a flimsy piece of ***** and every time I used it I could feel it flex in my hand. Plus WP7 sucks a$$. It's a boring OS with complete ***** for apps.

Why are we discussing old news? Let's talk about the Galaxy S4 (six core 3ghz w/ 5.2 inches screen at 1290 * 1020). Recent reviews are saying it still lags.

Valid points. I'm not denying it's slightly more cumbersome, but having your pinky below the phone or not, is truly a minor inconvenience for what benefits a larger screen device brings. (I mean, it's really almost endless: reading emails/texts, typing, browsing the web, using the camera, looking at pics and videos, playing games, wallpapers, ... there's just so many benefits).

I am not a fanboy of either side. This isn't an Android vs. iOS thing. I've owned 4 and 4S before. And I've owned a Nexus S, and am now using a Galaxy Nexus. The benefits of a larger screen far outweigh the minor set backs of holding it exactly like an iPhone. Depending on the device, reaching the top of the screen is really not that much more difficult. We are talking literally about a few millimeters away with your thumb to the top.

Having said that, I agree, there is a threshold. And I think the GIII could potentially have crossed it. I think 4-4.3" is "ideal" <- whatever that means.

It can be done (with my 4.3" Galaxy S2), it's just not as comfortable as holding it with my pinky under the bottom of it.

Who cares if you have to have your pinky under it? Feels natural to me.

It's because you're used to holding an iPhone; that's why it bothers you. However, I've been using a Galaxy S2 for the last six months and it feels perfectly comfortable to hold and use one handed.

I never have been able to figure out why people post threads about other phones in the iPhone section of macrumors. Most of us read news and tech articles gizmodo Engadget cnet just to name a few. We look to the iPhone section for iPhone articles.Vote me down if I'm wrong but I think most will agree.

I think threads about iPhone rivals are perfectly fine. However I would prefer if someone just started an S3 thread and all S3 related posts were kept in said thread. There is a very long but useful HTC One X thread in this forum.

With respect to this device, it appears to be impossible to use comfortably with one hand, much like the One X, and that alone would stop me from seriously considering it.

Yea, that's Android for ya. But rumor has it that the new camera can turn lead in to gold though. So there

I hope the next iphone is a Samsung S3 killer, because that is the phone to beat right now ....

Troll

Well along with making their own high end phones, I'm sure Sammy will be hard at work to make sure the heart and brains of the next iphone are just as amazing and reliable as all the other iphones before it. ;)

Bzzzzzzttttttt! We have a Samsung plant/troll here. First he says a phone not even available yet is better than an iPhone, then he says that the iPhone is only great BECAUSE it uses Samsung parts! So which is it? Are you saying that THIS version of the Galaxy is the iPhone killer? I had no problem with your post until this, when you went from, "your opinion of why Galaxy S3 is good" to "iPhone is dead because Samsung ROX". The first kind of post is ok in my opinion on an Apple board, the second is just another example of either a child or a troll. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you're a troll.

If you want the Galaxy S3 when it becomes available go out and buy it. I'll stick with my iPhone that I've had to reboot once (iOS upgrade). I'm not saying Android sucks, I'm saying my iPhone just works.
