Totally turned out to be a non-issue, especially when you can use fingerprint gestures to swipe open and close the notification bar. And being able to unlock the device and use Samsung Pay with your eyes using the iris scanner makes the fingerprint scanner even more of an option.

How do you pay with Iris scanner ? Phone has to be close to POS.
And i don't want to hold my phone in front of my eyes to unlock the phone either.
I still think Finger Print sensor is a must and has to be in the front.

Unlike the iPhones, there is no delay on delivery of the S8 or S8+. You can order from any carrier right now, and get it in 2 days.
It is probably because sales of S8 will be lower than iPhone, so it is not that difficult to meet the demand.

Never had an iPhone slow down due to software and I've owned nearly all of them. The only slow down you may get is updating software to an old iPhone that it was not suitably intended for.

I still use iPhone 6, no issues with latest software.
I was using iPhone 4S till an year ago with no lag.

What does crippled mean? 3dt, Apple Pay, continuity, handoff, home kit etc doesn't sound crippled to me. But we all have our "personal" definitions...

What people are noticing what?
Some people prefer to use their phone as a tablet, Desktop, laptop, server, SLR camera, shoot 4K Movie, edit a 4K movie, run Chrome OS, Linux, Windows, Android, have multiple user accounts. As kind of all in one.

I am serious some user was happy that he was able to run a server on an android phone but he couldn't do it on iOS and this is the reason why he didn't buy iPhone.

Except the camera is a faux slr just like iPhone except the dual lens bests the s8, 4K is on both platforms, chrome is a preference, and the sp4 makes dex look like a tinker toy and it's the real deal. Let's not pretend the phone is something it's not.

S8 is as close to a desktop as you can mimic from a mobile.

Then..iphone is really ONLY a phone. :p Where is the usb/host/otg support, file system, multi tasking, multi window, non-proprietary protocols like miracast, wifi-direct, BT file etc. A big embarrassment for iphone when put together with S8 in this "desktop" comparison.

Except it's a Samsung faux desktop, not a corporate desktop. My hardware combo(iphone/sp4 or macbook air pro) is the real deal, not some android apps running in a limited environment.:)

But if you are happy with that environment, you should go for it. I can only say what's best for me, but let's not pretend this is some be-all and end-all tech environment. Additionally, the sales of the iphone beg to differ it's a big embarrassment; what it says it's a better smartphone by popular vote:p.

yeah...iphone is a better smartPHONE. s8 is a better SMARTphone.

It really comes down to whether or not you like rooting/tinkering with your phone. Some people prefer to customize every aspect of their phone at the expense of stability/security. I used to jailbreak and I valued the same things, but eventually it wears off. I prefer my phone to have the most power, best security, and best ecosystem and support. Eventually, the screen will come to iPhone and all will be even better.

The gs8 is almost a perfect phone. There are a few things I don't like about it though. My biggest issue is the fingerprint scanner and a few animation studders you get opening up apps and going back to home screen.im sure it will be fixed with an update because I can repeat the glitches over and over again.

It's almost like the recorded animation was recorded with a few frames missing and locks like it bogs doing them.

If Samsung had the fingerprint scanner under the screen and made the animations not stuttter it would of been the best phone all around.

The battery life is amazing on power saving mode and I get a whole day use with over 6 hours of onscreen time and that is insane for an android phone with only a 3000mah battery.

While you lug around all that paraphernalia an S8 user will be carrying around a dock and a phone. The dock shouldn't even matter because Apple users are already used to dongles

I bought an S8+, tried it out for 2 days and decided it wasn't for me. It went back to the store for a refund and I'm happy with my iPhone again. :)

I gave you an article which clearly shows Samsung outsells Apple, and from THIS site nonetheless. And you STILL argue about it. Point is, Samsung outsells Apple by a large margin YEARLY which is what my original reply was refuting.

The only fair comparison is Samsung flagship phone sales figures to iPhones, all other comparisons are meaningless.

How about profits, why also not compare profits for the flagship phones? You can guess in whose favor those comparison will end up being, it would have to be Apple.

No one, not even Samsung, has been able to match Apple's marketshare and profits in the flagship phone category. If you want to muddy the waters and compare everything that Samsung sells, then be my guest. But that is meaningless for me.

Of course no one matches Apple profits because they constantly rip there customers off giving them less and making them believe it's much more. Apple has never offered any of you guys more...just the bare minimum. You guys are still on 1080p displays, no file manager, and almost the same ios interface based on mainly icons. Everything Apple offers you keeps you stuck in a box you barely can get out of (mind control).

For a real deal environment, exactly. Dongles and all. I can do what I need to do in the middle of the desert and not twiddle my thumbs as android users are used to.

I felt the same way, but only spent a little time with the device. It was clear right away though that it was not for me. What were some things you weren't happy with?

Worst of all no OLED displays and using ancient LCDs with 750P resolution

1. Why do you care at all the reasons for why people like Apple products?
2. Idiotic comment about mind control. Don't like the product? fine and dandy. For me I'd rather have a 1080 display and iOS. Ymmv.

I don't know if that is fair to say. There are obviously a good amount of people who value certain things with Apple products and that is what makes the company successful. It is not always about the biggest number or how often you make changes to your icons when it makes no difference in function of the phone. For me, I have always valued the quality hardware, best performance, security, simplicity, ecosystem, and support that Apple provides. There really is no comparison when it comes to that stuff. The high numbers a lot of times don't even make a difference (more cores, more ram, etc.) as the iPhone continuously performs better in benchmarks and real world tests. It just comes down to what you value individually, nothing wrong with either one.

You probably don't understand basic economics, that value is based on perception, if an Apple iPhone provides the value to a person, he/she is going to buy it for the perceived value, which is not called rip off but a trade off between cost and value.

Apple has clearly proven time and time again, that it provides the value that people seek, so they buy the products. Maybe you don't see the value, because you probably think that you can start a company and provide the same value as the iPhone with your phone for much lesser cost. Maybe you can even start a successful enterprise with your own phone hardware and software, but that sounds silly to people like me who buy an iPhone, so they wont buy your dream phone.

I have never needed the be in file system on my phone which is my anecdotal experience, which I believe was the intent of the usage of a phone. Maybe you are stuck in the old mindset of people in the era of wanting to keep your horses and carts, when Ford Model T or automobile was taking off. The intent of the file systems are for the folks who want to use the phone as a desktop, when it clearly is not a desktop. Looking for file systems on phones is like looking for horse reins every time you get in your car. In not too distant future, cars probably wont have steering wheels, I am sure people will complain the steering wheel doesn't exist just like the people who complain file manager doesn't exist.

Human eyes cannot resolve greater than the resolution that Apple provides on their phones, care to provide 'scientific reasoning' why higher resolution is needed.

Really don't understand while each camp hates on the other. The S8 is a nice phone, revolutionary nah. Has a cool screen and still looks like the S7 other than the front. I hope Samsung does well with this they need to. The company has been through hell over the battery issue. Galaxy sales have been horrible over the last years, they had great momentum with the S4, seems after that peak that each year there was something. They seem to be their own worst enemy. When the S6 was released it should have only been the Edge only, that was a great design, different and new. By releasing two S6's it fogged everything. Also eliminating features that Android users crave was another blunder as Micro Sd cards and removable batteries were their major selling points. It took them to long to match build quality of other premium phones as of last year they finally did. Then they have they battery issue. So it seems now finally they have all the pieces together for a big hit. I wish them well in this endeavor. Competition is good, give them their due on this one. Apple and their iPhone business is fine, not threatened at all. Samsung makes a lot of real profit on the iPhone components it manufactures, those profits are what keeps the company in the phone business.

Things can change quite fast. For most of 2016 Apple sales was down compared to year before. It got a reprieve in last 3 months of 2016 (most probably due to Samsung Note 7). Apple also suffered quite a huge decline in sales (in a growing market) in China, its biggest sales outside US.

I dont think Apple sales has declined in consecutive quarters before since the iphone introduced may be a sign of things to come. With the strong sales of S8 , chinese manufacturers getting much stronger and the introduction of Note 8 coinciding with new iphone may take a lot of steam out of apple sales. If the rumor of Apple having issues with iphone 8 is true and only the dated 7s is released then apple may take quite a beating.

Unfortunately for you, Samsung doesn't just sell flashships. Hence, my point. You can argue till you're blue in the face. Doesn't change that fact.

I'm someone with 3 degrees of every sort B.S., M.S, and Ph.D. I was not thinking economics with my assertion. I was only giving you my opinion.
