Does it have a virtual home button like the iPhone 8 is supposed to have? This phone looks gorgeous. Shame on the OS.

Another example of the Tortois and the Hare. Samsung rushes technology out just to beat Apple an look innovative. Apple then comes along and within a year releases a much more reliable, usable and thought out product. This is why the Simband was a failure and the Note7 was a huge disaster. Samsung just seems to try and find out what Apple is doing and then rush crap to the market to steal sales. No thanks keep your steaming pile, I'll happily wait for Apple and if its a little more money, that's fine I just used those 5-6 months to save for it.

That's coming though they just didn't have time to get it done

Still iris scanning and facial recognition will be available
looks like they are phasing out the fingerprint scanner and pushing Iris and facial scanning.

there are leaks showing you can use Iris scanning for card payments so looksike Samsung is trying to slowly ditch the sensor

I've read those rumors too, but that all depends on how effective the tech really is.

Only recently a friend of mine who uses a Samsung Galaxy S5 told me he turned the finger print sensor off, because it was awkward to have to slide his finger precisely over the sensor every time.
Remember, Apple already had Touch ID implemented successfully back then, and it worked without that silly rubbing motion.

Now Samsung is coming early to the party of facial and iris recognition, maybe this time their tech will be on the bleeding edge, but somehow I doubt that to be true. Just a few days and we'll see.

Samsung doesn't control when carriers release OS updates. No Android OEM does. Now, that still doesn't change the fact that my answer to medazinol's quote is true. The claim was the S7 owners can't get the latest OS. Not true.

Yeah, those are quite. really. very. much. on the nose.:p:D
They can't get it when it matters.

I think you will find that consumers aren't really all that price-sensitive when it comes to iPhones, so I doubt a price cut would affect sales of iPhones all that much.

If anything, the iPhone probably faces more competition from older iPhone models than any other android smartphone model out there. Even if they are flagship phones like the S8.

I think you will find that if it was not for subsidies globally, people would be very very price sebsative if they were asked to buy outright .

I thought most rumours peg the new iPhone to have a higher price then the current ones ? I am inclined to believe them cause Apple has tremendous courage in these matters as they have clearly demonstrated with their MBPs. Time will tell....

Right RUMORS. But it's incorrect to state as definite fact that "Galaxy S8 retail price to significantly undercut premium 'iPhone 8'" because there is no official iPhone 8 price. The correct headline would have been ""Galaxy S8 retail price to significantly undercut that of rumored premium for 'iPhone 8'".

This has nothing to do with what Apple might do or what is possible, but rather what Apple has or hasn't done yet, namely price the iPhone 8, which itself doesn't exist yet.

Another bloatware special. Doesn't really matter what hardware sammy has. Bixby, the additional bloatware assistant you didn't want..lol Memo to samsung, android has this built in..

What a joke.

yeah, the same joke that is Siri, the "smart" assistant. But I actually agree with you: I never understood why Samsung has to pathologically add crappy software that do nothing better than any other app and aren't used by anyone.

I'm not a fan of the curved display thing especially the round corners - it bothers me visually. Apart from that though it does look clean and nice so not bad from Samsung.
Shame about the OS though as that will never make me wanna buy one unless Apple gets too greedy (they are approaching that though)

and I agree, prices of the phones are getting crazy. $1000 for a smartphone? Please, that is just way too much.

same here - I hate curved edge phones. No decent screen protectors, have to have a bumper, hard to hold. But I won't pay 1300$ + 130 for Applecare, 30 for a screen protector etc. for an iPhone 8 Plus / Pro.

What a joke. I'm sure the idiots will line up for this that don't know any better.
Usually it's Apple fanboys who camp for days around stores to get ripped off and many of them have 0 idea about other hardware, they buy just because of the Apple on the device.
The best part of Androids is, that the price goes down after a couple of months, can't remember that had happened to Apple. They still sell outdated phones for a bunch of money while you already can get something similar for 1/3 of the Apple price.

They actually delayed the announcement this year. Normally they introduce their S series flagships at the Mobile World Congress. That's come and gone and they talked about the S8 and teased a bit on what they were doing and introduced their tablets, but not the phone.

They are not rushing, they are right on schedule to a little bit later than usual and this is actually an iterative update very much along the scale of an S update for an IPhone. In fact Samsung fans have been complaining its not that much of a difference from the current models!

Bixby and the rumored facial recognition software and the new aspect ratio are new, everything else has been introduced before. The new aspect ratio works fine on the LG G6 so it should do fine on the Samsung. They've had Edge screens for a few years now and refined false touch rejection on the Note 7 so I hope they don't backslide on these. I used their iris scanner last year and it worked fairly well, just needing to improve performance in brightly lit environments. It worked fine in near darkness, despite expectations to the contrary.

To be honest I am wondering how the facial recognition will work because that feature was leaked very late and I don't know how long that had been planned for the S8 or if it was thrown in close to the last moment. With rumors you just don't know.

I don't expect much from Bixby, but considering Siri has backslid on my family's iPhone 7 Pluses, I will be happy if Bixby works at least the same as Siri because goodness knows it doesn't get worse for AI than Siri right about now.

Where Samsung will continue to draw derision from IPhone fans and some Android purists is Touchwiz and not beating Apple on benchmarks. Samsung actually makes really excellent processors but in the US we are stuck with the (usually) less impressive Snapdragons.

Smart move by Samsung, as they need to win back customers. Undercutting the price of the iPhone is a good move, given that we no longer have subsidies.
You can't say undercut when we don't know the actual price of the new iPhone. You can't take a rumor and then create a theory of undercutting iPhones w the expect basis of pricing. When you combine rumors together you get incorrect theories and a meta-rumors

Waiting for the lawsuit to start on the name Arctic Silver. For those that are not familiar with the brand, it's one that resonates with PC builders and enthusiasts; Arctic Silver (http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm)is a high density thermal compound used to transfer heat from a processing unit's heat spreader to a heat sink.

But then again, maybe Artic Silver would be too scared to take on a major appliance brand like Samsung....

Fresh leaks of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 have revealed that the de facto "iPhone 8" rival will come in three colors and cost upwards of 799 euros ($859) when it goes on sale next month in Europe.

Serial mobile leaker Evan Blass revealed the news in a Sunday tweet, which included an official press image of Samsung's new flagship phone in colors described as Black Sky, Orchid Grey, and Arctic Silver.

A second tweet offered the pricing details, with the 5.8-inch S8 starting at 799 euros and the 6.2-inch S8 Plus going for 899 euros ($967). Blass also revealed the prices of a handful of accessories set to launch with the phone, including a DeX docking station (150 euros/$161), a new GearVR headset (129 euros/$138), and a Gear 360 camera (229 euros/$246).

While direct currency conversions are no guarantee of actual prices outside of Europe, the phones still look likely to undercut Apple's upcoming 5.8-inch OLED iPhone by some margin.

Tentatively dubbed "iPhone 8" by media outlets, the tenth anniversary edition model could cost upwards of $1,000, according to one report claiming knowledge of Apple's plans. The premium tier device is expected to feature a radical redesign with a flat edge-to-edge OLED screen supplied by Samsung, a virtual home button and some form of wireless charging, launching alongside more typical "S" cycle iPhone models to succeed the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.

Samsung's S8 will feature iris scanning and facial recognition technology in addition to fingerprint recognition, with a new virtual assistant called "Bixby" also to debut. The Korean company will launch its new phones at an event on March 29, with the devices said to ship to consumers on April 21. Apple's 2017 iPhones are expected to launch in the fall.

Please don't use word theory. What you get is ******** nonsense.

I think the top area with the sensors makes this phone look horrible. They would be better off just making the top and bottom bezel black, so as to hide the sensors. That would help create what appears to be a bezel-less, all-screen, device.

Latest leaks indicate that's what they've done. We shall find out for sure in a few days.

The parts we've seen so far with all of the ugly sensors have been prototypes, mock ups, and fakes.
