And Galaxy S7 owners still can't get the latest Android version over a year after its introduction.
Apple's 2-3 year old products get the latest OS as soon as it comes out.

There's value there sorely neglected from the price calculation

Having the latest version of IOS is no bonus on older hardware.

I think you will find that consumers aren't really all that price-sensitive when it comes to iPhones, so I doubt a price cut would affect sales of iPhones all that much.

If anything, the iPhone probably faces more competition from older iPhone models than any other android smartphone model out there. Even if they are flagship phones like the S8.
That may or may not be true in the U.S. but oversees?....I dunno.

Crap OS? Almost 9 out of 10 people around the world have Android, not iOS. Really hard to believe your statement.
and in terms of dependabilty it seems alot seem more happy with android OS. IOS is good for updates but i think it's not as dependable as it was in terms of shutting down or randomly switching off

Strictly speaking of the design, it looks like the phone of the future we've all envisioned for years. And I like it, a lot.

Maybe it's something you've envisioned, but certainly not me. Personally I don't like it at all.

Design wise, reducing a product to it's minimalist extreme is an obvious option...but not always the best design in terms of usability.

Aesthetically speaking it lacks any emotion or personality. It's essentially a slab of glass.

I love all this "undercutting the price of the iPhone", when neither the next iPhone nor it's pricing have been officially announced :p
Nope, but I think thin its safe to assume the next iPhone won't be cheaper then the prior model.

Maybe not in performance, but for security purposes it almost always is.

Quantity has never meant quality.

I don't think Android is a crap OS. It is much improved over where it was 5 years ago and is a solid OS. That said, it still isn't as stable as iOS.

As much I have been tempted by Samsung phones, I'm too ingrained in Apple's ecosystem and really do not have plans to switch anyway.

With that said, the S8 design looks pretty awesome.

Both platforms suck at security. Didn't you see the leaks?
The fact that a device can be jailbroken it means it lacks at security.
You forgot a couple of years ago that FBI wanted from Apple a custom made software to hack into a 5C and when Apple denied what did they do? They just bought a hack from an Israeli security firm...

Don't be fooled that iOS is safer than Android or vice versa....

When I see rumors about the $1000 iPhone it always reminds me about this quote from Steve Jobs:

"What ruined Apple wasn't growth. What ruined Apple was values. John Sculley ruined Apple and he ruined it by bringing a set of values to the top of Apple which were corrupt and corrupted some of the top people who were there, drove out some of the ones who were not corruptible, and brought in more corrupt ones and paid themselves collectively tens of millions of dollars and cared more about their own glory and wealth than they did about what built Apple in the first place -- which was making great computers for people to use.

They didn't care about that anymore. They didn't have a clue about how to do it and they didn't take any time to find out because that's not what they cared about. They cared about making a lot of money. So they had this wonderful thing that a lot of brilliant people made called the Macintosh and they got very greedy. And instead of following the original trajectory of the original vision -- which was to make this thing an appliance, to get this out there to as many people as possible -- they went for profits and they made outlandish profits for about four years. Apple was one of the most profitable companies in America for about four years.

What that cost them was the future. What they should have been doing was making reasonable profits and going for market share, which was what we always tried to do."

This is an ignorant question, but is it possible to restore one of these phones with stock Android?

Yes you can, root the phone and you can add a different rom or custom roms as well. At your own risk really but if you're into that kinda stuff then you would, there is a large community that has forums and guides for this called XDA. If it's too much of a hassle just install a launcher to make it look and feel like a stock Android.

"Galaxy S8 Retail Price to Significantly Undercut Premium 'iPhone 8'"

"with the 5.8-inch S8 starting at 799 euros ($859) and the 6.2-inch S8 Plus going for 899 euros ($967)"

"Tentatively dubbed "iPhone 8" by media outlets, the tenth anniversary edition model could cost upwards of $1,000"

Doesn't seem like much of an undercut to me.... But I suppose the new iPhone could cost quite a bit more than 1K.

Maybe Apple has been seeding FUD (like the original price of the iPad) where we all assume it to be >$1000, then are shocked and apppreciative when it comes in at $850?
There has been quite a bit of FUD about the iPhone 8 pricing, but I can't see it coming from Apple.

Fact is that apparently a Samsung phone will cost less than the highest rumoured prices for the most expensive iPhone. What counts is the price of two phones in the shop, actually available for sale.

title of this article is not correct.they are not undercutting the iPhone as we don't know the price and it's more expensive then the gs7 was.

the title should read Samsung is also increasing it's price on it's premium flagship phones.not undercutting the iPhone 8 to make it look like Samsung is trying to win a customer over 40 dollars
I think it is completely unacceptable that we are getting rumors on a site that is supposed to give us facts...

What kills Android for me are manufacturer overlays and carriers meddling with software updates, the latter being more prevalent in the US and Canada than elsewhere in the world. I'm one of the people who care about timely updates (one of the appeals of iOS), so Samsung is a non-starter for me, regardless of how nice it may be. Of course, it's possible to get an unlocked phone and bypass carrier meddling, but that's not always a viable solution. As far as I know, all US-based carriers have already rolled out Nougat to their variants of the Galaxy s7, whereas the US unlocked version is still on Marshmallow.

With that being said, this looks like a very nice phone and I'm sure Samsung will make a hefty profit from it. Many people will love it, but those who care about timely updates should spend their money elsewhere. I've owned three Galaxy phones (S, S3 and S4) before switching to the iPhone and my wife is currently using the S7, having previously used the S6. The update release schedules are abysmal, to say the least.

I saw and read the leaks from the wikileaks file dump. The iOS exploits are quite minor, while android had about double the exploits. The iOS exploits were kernel and passcode bypassing, so basically they could steal your data if phone was in possession, but couldn't remotely steal data or remote control mic/camera access.

Eh. Samsung needs to do a lot to win back most customers. I went apple and have no intentions of going back lol

That's an iPhone 5c. The same hack doesn't work on an iPhone 5s or 5se, and on any iPhone 6, 6s or 7.

It's also very, very easy to completely protect against that hack: By choosing an eight digit passcode instead of four digits. That makes any attempt at cracking your iPhone 10,000 times harder.

Yet the rest of the phone industry will follow Apple, as they always do. You'll see Samsung, LG, etc in the ultra premium $1000 wether you like it or not
