Really hoping when the Z Fold 8 comes around, they up the trade in of the Fold 7 to 1200 and maybe even lower the price of the 8. Thinking long term, I like to upgrade every year but prefer it when after trade in, it costs around 600. I know this year was different because of the price hike, but really don't want to be dropping 800-1000 every year.

When she asked if you needed help, you should have asked her where the checkout counter was. :D

I'm not an EE customer, I buy my phones unlocked 😂, I just went in to have a look at the Fold 7. If I was going to get one it would be through Samsung, as at the moment they have Samsung Week with 20% off, however I can get 25% off with my dads Blue Light card and a further £414 for my S24 Ultra. I''ve been tempted to give it a try, but from my research the battery life isn't very good and the cameras aren't as good as on slab phones. It seems to be the compromise for a folding phone.

I've also watched Jerry Rigs video on the Fold 7, the inside of the phone uses plastic, which scratches easily and isnt dust resistant. It comes down to durability again. I would love to see those compromises vanish in the future tho, maybe then I will be willing to give a fold a try.

I have a feeling they will be more competitive when Apple release their first foldable. I'm still shocked that Apple are doing it, after years of showing no interest in the foldable market.

I have a feeling Apple will probably be a disappointment on their first foldable too. Considering they're software is so buggy as it is already, this is going to be a mess. I'll stay comfortable in my Samsung world because it's the most stable software in America at least.

Yeah I really think durability issues are overblown. Unless you're diving in sand with your phone caseless, it's really not an issue. Get phone insurance and if gosh for bed something happens, then file a claim.

Apple's first gen products are always a bit hit and miss. I'm not sure what they will do differently, surely they will need to make iOS different and friendly for bigger screens.

I do take my phones to the beach, I like taking family photos. My iPhone 15 Pro Max has scratches from a trip to the beach 😬 (unfortunately). Jerry Rigs is obviously an extreme stress test.

The Fold 7 is definitely impressive when it comes to thinness, I can't believe how thin it felt when I saw it in the EE store.

If you look at DXOMARK camera scoring The Fold 7 is on par with your IP15 and just above your S24 :)

The plastic inner screen protector that's factory fitted and protects the "Foldable Glass" is replaceable and those with Samsung insurance get it at a reduce price or free in some instances.

The dust ingress of particles less than 1mm is only related to the hinge area only, not the rest of the phone that is watertight. So unless you are literally shovelling in grit like Jerry Rig, its overblown IMO

I would guess if you only used the Fold 7 outer screen and did not multitask it would give your IP15 a good run for your money on battery endurance, as this would be more like for like :)

Given the price you can get the F7 with your dads discounts etc is probably less than its trade-in value next year, so makes it very attractive

You have tried Pixels before and there is no significant change to the OS that would overcome your previous objections

Stop dithering and trade in your S24 :D

I'll do some more research, I've never looked at DXOMARK.

Ah ok, that's my mistake. I didn't realise it's a screen protector. All I saw was the Jerry Rigs video. To be fair I won't be putting grit or dust into any phone I own 😂

I do love going to the beach, there's a place called Lyme Regis here in the UK and it's beautiful 😍 I love taking pictures at the beach.
I do also like taking pictures of the night sky. I believe the F7 and Pixel Fold both have features that work great for that.

I'll do some more research, but I have been looking at the Fold 7 and Watch 8 combination (the watch is also 25% off).

The inner "Screen protector" can be removed very carefully by yourself, but best not too, but only fitted by Samsung.

The outer screen you can DIY any screen protector but Samsung one has anti glare.

I am in Brighton UK (also on the south coast) at the moment, but its not as sandy as Lyme Regis :)

I have had all 7 Folds so I have long gotten over any fears of dust ingress etc but if your concerned just put a strip of masking tape on the hinge and use it closed only on the beach, as you still have access to all the lens.

Who is still debating about the ZF7?

At this point it's either one just doesn't like the phone or has other competing needs

Otherwise they would have committed to buying already

I prefer doing the every other year approach.. because each year doesn't show any meaningful changes. And the times I did upgrade... Samsung offered 1k for both the Fold 2 and Fold 4, but this year Samsung brought the trade in values down.

This year was an exception to the every other year rule... I would have upgraded if it wasn't for the removal of S-Pen support. And then it was weighing the increased cost of it.. missing features (S-Pen and no UDC), I rather just wait it out for the Fold 8.

i think it will be a success as quite simply they have had years to develop this foldable and one thing you can depend on apple for is app quality and optimisation. i know IOS 27 they are supposed to be changing the software so it will support for bigger display. i know 26.1 is said to be fixing the bugs that people are having. apps will work great and really thats the most important area for a foldable for me. That and aspect ratio which apple is said to be nailing with a better aspect ratio. both areas where foldables currently are the main question marks with.

samsung's foldable software is so good though but sadly the areas it struggles in is aspect ratio and app support but again thats an android developer issue not a samsung issue.

We'll see for sure. I think the biggewt issue with the iFold is that it will run iOS, unless they have some cool software that takes advantage of the screen. For me, stable software (OneUI) that just works beats aspect ratio any day.

If it runs and takes advantage of the bigger screen like ipadOS does then that's going to be ideal. I'm sure they will have flex mode like others do as well.

iOS certainly has had bugs but I think liquid glass bedding in has been a big reason for that. Have to see if apple can sort that out saying that I've had little issues with it but others certainly have

One UI is my favourite android software though. Although colour OS/oxygen 16 seems a fantastic update and best for animations

Love seeing the new rumors this morning that the Z Fold 8 will have a 5,000ma battery and maybe even mess crease (although the crease doesn't bother me at all). Hopefully this can include even faster charging. And wouldn't mind if maybe they offered a few more megapixels on the telephoto lens. That would make this phone pretty much unbeatable.

Even though I was never really a huge s pen user, I'll take it! Make signing documents a little easier.
Since you never had the chance to use the S-Pen on a larger display… perhaps, you find it more useful compared to using it on the slab phone.

Navigating around the OS with hover support and text selection are the two main features I like most, granted.. if the Fold 8 doesn’t support S-Pen. I would be disappointed, but it’s not the end of the world… I’ll still enjoy it.
