For many of your casual things then yes

Given this is your secondary device with almost 0 risk of loosing anything given the price you are paying you have an excellent unhindered opportunity to explore for months the flexibility that a Fold can bring to your work flow etc

I mainly use my iPad for watching Youtube and multitasking, but with iPadOS 26 Apple have ruined the multitasking of the iPad (in my opinion). Trying to turn the UI into a Mac with the green, yellow and red (minimise and close basically) buttons. I don't know what Apple are thinking lately, it's like they don't seem to even know themselves.

Don't wish to derail this thread. But I enjoy iPadOS 26... best update ever (imo). Resizing windows are more fluid now... we get a menu bar, like traffic lights... we get window tiling. And I like the new implementation of SlideOver... had called it couple months back that Apple should add a "Stay on top" or "Pin it window."

Pre-existing multitasking was limited, which is the reason it was removed (imo)...restricted to only two windows while a SlideOver window hovered over. If you watched or read reviews throughout the years... iPadOS was constantly criticized by the lack of multitasking freedom. And the argument is... Apple could have kept it while adding the other modes, but I think they wanted to close the book on that chapter.

If apple being this level of multitasking to foldable iPhone I will be very happy personally.

I think it's a massive upgrade. If you want spilt screen like before it's a quick hold down and it's there or hold and drag and it's the same and slide over is back. This is how multitasking should be on tablets

I would be shocked if they do… took Apple years to get to this point with the iPad, foldable iPhone is new territory. So, I think they gonna take a safe approach… similar to Pixel Fold. Start out with SplitView and reinvent something different… wouldn’t be surprised if they take some inspiration from OnePlus Canvas.

Been back and forth explaining to the naysayers… but apparently it now takes decades to get into split screen.

I think the iPad is getting there, but made some missteps this year. The issue with the traffic light conceit is there is no need for red. You don't quit apps on an iPad. Instead of coming up with something that works for how you use an iPad, they wanted a cohesive look across OSes, but it's an artificially-forced cohesion (kind of like the dock on iPhone that doesn't behave anything like a dock on macOS or iPadOS). It's just needlessly fiddly in a way I don't like.

Agree, for the most part. The most common criticism leveled it against iPadOS over the years was that it just couldn’t do the ‘computery’ things a Mac could do. I think the implementation that brings cohesion with macOS is pretty well done. Being able to have background task running like uploads and multi-track audio input and recording, while not pertinent to me, was long overdue. I have to admit though that I have been sitting on iPadOS 18 after test driving iPadOS 26 during the beta period because I can’t let go of slide over as it was previously implemented. I pin 3 to 4 apps in slide over and use it as a quick access tray for my frequently accessed apps like 1Password, contacts, Authy, and messages. I’m glad they brought it back in the upcoming version of iPadOS 26.1 but limiting it to a single app in the stack isn’t great for my use case so I’m sticking with iPadOS 18 for the time being.

Gurman reckons iOS 27 will have a brand new software for the foldable display it seems

That would be interesting, kind of like an iPadOS merged? I wonder if they will make the Apple Pencil work with the iPhone Fold 🤔
Unless they redesign the Apple Pencil to were it doesn’t damage the inner display… then I don’t see it happening.

Because Samsung has a retractable tip on the S-Pen Fold edition to help users avoid damaging the screen.

Sounds like it, Apple Pencil support would be good but not expecting it

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure I read there was an interview with Tim Cook a couple of years back, where he mentioned about the Apple Pencil working on an iPhone. I wonder if it was for their fold.

It's been a fun 4 months but I think I'm done with my Fold 7. Love the device but just not for me I've come to realize. I don't use the inner display nearly as often as I'd thought I would and the outer screen is still too narrow. I keep the phone set to the light power profile and still don't get all day battery life. I'm around chargers most of the day so not a major issue, but when out and about and using the phone heavily it becomes a concern.

After using the 17PM as my main line since September I can't re-acclimate to the narrow outer screen. I've an Oppo X9P on order and assuming it plays nicely w/ T-Mobile will sell the Fold 7. If I had to choose again I'd actually choose the Flip 7 over the Fold. Will definitely monitor the Fold 8 and consider jumping in again next year, but the outer screen needs to be wider, period.

Sorry to see that, but I really do believe that the enjoyment of this phone is directly dependent on how often you have the screen open. I have second thoughts about this phone normally on weekends because the kids are home and we're out and about and I don't have a lot of time to open the phone and truly enjoy the screen. But during the week when I'm working from home and literally no one else in the house, the screen is open for a good 10 hours.

It does really seem like Apple knocked it on the park with the 17 Pro Max and I've been doing my very best to not think about that.

Really? I didn't upgrade my 15 Pro Max because there didn't seem to be much of a big upgrade, especially camera wise.

Yeah I don't really want to get too in-depth on it because this thread is about the Fold 7, but I've had some Android-based complaints (wired Android Auto disconnecting when I even think about bumping the cord but it not happening to my daughter when she uses Apple Music, the Galaxy Watch Ultra behaving a bit weird where always on display just randomly turns off, etc) recently that has gotten me at least peaking over at the other side again. But this phone is so good that it's really hard to imagine giving it up.

I've found that the phone is very sensitive re: USB-C cables when using wired Android Auto for whatever reason. I now have a good-quality braided USB-C cable in the car and it works 100% of the time with that. I love the GWU as well and am keeping it.

Yeah I've actually gone through three cables in the last year. It seems like it'll work well for a while and then it just gets so sensitive and keeps disconnecting. This didn't happen with my S25 Ultra.

For me whenever I sit down I'm going to use the inner screen. Which means I'll be using it 80-90% of the time so unless there's some huge reliability issues down the line then I'll probably stick to this form factor. Which makes the only two thing I kinda dislike about the phone is:

- Camera App, not the camera itself but the app, could be better. Firstly I don't like that HDR is set to on all the time without a toggle to turn it off. Even when I turned it off in Camera Assistant it still turns on in some modes. And why does Expert RAW have HDR on as a default as well.

- Battery life is good, but not $2000 good. At $2000 the ZF7 should be pushing the envelope, but that could be due to the lack of competition. If we have Oppo, Honor or Huawei here things might be different.

Overall whatever gripes I have with this phone tend to go out the door because this thing gets a lot of attention, I mean I'm not getting 100s of compliments I think less than 10 strangers actually talked to me about it(and I think they're also mostly drunk at the time). But whenever that happens it's fun to talk about, and watching them be amazed that such technology exists.

It’s actually a pretty substantial change from 15 to 17 Pro Max.
  • Larger, brighter and more durable display (ceramic shield 2)
  • 3 cameras upgraded (tele, ultrawide and selfie) with expanded video capabilities
  • improved wireless connectivity (wifi 7 and BT 6)
  • approx 15% more battery and longer battery life
  • Faster wired and wireless charging
  • more RAM (12 vs. 8)
  • faster, more efficient CPU
  • better heat management with vapor chamber
I didn’t feel compelled to upgrade either since I moved to the Pixel 10 Pro Fold as my primary (and because I find the design pretty ugly) but it’s a pretty substantial change from the 15 Pro Max, especially considering how incremental yearly updates have been over recent years for most smartphones.

Yeah when you break it down like that it actually is a pretty good phone. I still prefer OneUI over iOS anyway. If it weren't for some recent hiccups, I wouldn't even be in the conversation.

It's honestly a really good phone, arguably Apple's best when compared to the competition in a long time. I just don't like so many of Apple's choices as a company over the past few years and really love the foldable experience.

I'm still having the occasional 'switchers remorse' when bumping up against some aggravating elements of Android and Wear OS but I'm sticking it out because I love using my Pixel 10 Pro Fold. And as I mentioned, as great as the 17 Pro Max might be, it find it an ugly design so that helps qwell the urges to switch back. 😁

I was helping my Aunt last week with her 16 Pro Max and that thing is a friggin' brick. It seems comically big -- too tall and wide for my taste. From the spec sheet, the 17 Pro Max is even an extra bit more in every dimension over the 16 Pro Max!

I don't really mind the width of my Fold6 and am surprised some folks want the Fold7 even wider. I am definitely looking forward to the Fold8 and nothing else on the market right now even tempts me away from my Fold6. Pixel 10 Pro Fold is meh and the 17-series Pro iPhones look hideous that not even my wife and daughter want to upgrade from their iPhone 15/15 Pro.

Off tangent but my wife and I were in Costco today and her 15 Pro died while looking at the shopping list. Fold6 to the rescue with wireless PowerShare to charge her 15 Pro with enough juice to finish our grocery shopping. Sure, we could've just as easily walked back out to the car and charged her iPhone (which she would do if I wasn't present) but reverse wireless charging came in handy. Samdroid for the win! Actually, there are several occasions I get to mock my wife and daughter with features not available on their fancy iPhones. But it's cool, smartphones are just tools and we each like what we like.
