Glad to see that the power is back on for you.

Hope that Rita was not too rude of a visitor....
Meh...not too bad for me. Just gotta pick up all the crap in the backyard. My grandparents got it bad. Oh well.

But enough side tracking about Rita. Back to the gayness! :D

I've met Amanda at a number of parties over the years, she's a permanent fixture in the downtown club/party scene. She's pretty damn scary in person, but, lovely fake boobs.

I would love to be your guide, but, to be honest, you might want someone who's a bit more current with the gay club scene here in the city (like Emerson), as I'm a bit rusty since the new millennium arrived. The Roxy started to become boring in the late 90s when it was overrun with Chelsea muscle-boys on steroids. Lovely to look for the first few minutes, as long as they keep their mouths shut. It's a huge dance club, which I like because there was usually enough space to actually dance rather than bounce up and down in one spot. Plus, they always had the hottest DJs of the day there, so, the music was great, especially after 2am.

I have no idea what the Roxy is like lately, as I haven't been there in years. In the late 80s, early 90s, any club where Junior Vasquez was the DJ was THE place to go, but, like Madonna, he's become a has-been now.

See, I can tell you a lot about the gay club scene in NYC during the late 80s and 90s if you want a historical tour, but, now that I'm older, I don't go to clubs very often.

Ah- you know Amanda. Do you by chance know Philly? She's a crazy New Yorker in her 50's who was part of the Warhol scene for a while. She still does a lot in NYC. She's a good friend of mine.

So what Rita orgies are going on down there? :D
None! There's an 8:00 PM curfew where I'm at right now. No bars, no orgies, no parties, just sitting in my old bedroom at my parents house trying to get a buzz off this nasty light beer.

Rita screwed over my weekend. I was supposed to be on a date tonight with this really cute guy I met a couple days ago. :( Oh well. Let's hope he's still alive.

I'm 18. My cuttoff ages are 18-55 .

But if I were to fall in love with a 56 year old or someone my age, I wouldn't deny that attraction. I just don't think it will happen. I wouldn't think it'd be likely that I'd be attracted to a 38 year old either, but look and listen to Lee  :D! So, I don't deny any of my attractions, but I anything below 18 or above 55 seems like something that just couldn't happen.

_Emerson

And ditto for me. scem0 makes a convincing case for how I should not limit my age range, which was 25-45. Now I'm not so sure. :) What the hell are you doing online anyway? Don't you have some dancing to do? ;) And just so you know scem0, I'm pretty loud socially, in the right setting. And NYC brings that out of me quite a bit. I'm also a drinker and smoker, but not like in the old days. And I used to enjoy drugs a lot too. But alas, I'm too old for that silliness anymore. I've slowed down. I think if I took an illegal drug now, I'd keel over. Ah- getting older. :)

Eh, nobody would go with me (my friends don't have a 3+ clubbing per week quota they have to fulfill), and I decided I was too tired to go anyways.

Plus, I still have a lot of homework. I wasn't as productive today as I should have been. So, right now I'm using illustrator to give a 'statistics' ninja I created last week life.

I'm not sure if anyone is familiar with statistics terms, such as 'x-bar', 'p-hat', 'z-star', etc. but I'm using them all to make a fictional ninja that fights his enemies using the tools of statistics. How nerdy is that? :p

edit for your edit - Everyone smokes and drinks :). I feel so odd doing neither. I don't mind when others drink or smoke, just as long as they don't do either too much. Drinking oneself to a stupor is never fun, and chain smoking for hours on end is hardly more attractive :p.

Unfortunately no I'm not. Wish I could help. BTW- ever taken a web design class at the Apple Store? I'm going to soon, and wondered how it was.

You shouldn't feel weird. One of my best friends in college was a reformed alcoholic. We used to go to clubs all the time. It never felt strange at all, him not drinking. It was fine. We always had a blast.

nope, I'm self taught for the most part. I have never been to any of the classes at any Apple stores, but they always interest me when I go there and see what's planned for the upcoming weeks.

I'd love to do a Maya/3d type class someday. It would help prepare me for next year, when I will probably be doing some extensive 3d modeling and rendering for school classes.

Yeah, most of my friends drink (mostly Smirnoff Ices though, which are only 5% alcohol) and we have a good time. :)

Yeah- I taught myself Photoshop, Quark and Illustrator. I've been in the ad biz for years (supports my acting habit) and am thinking of changing jobs. Everybody tells me web knowledge is a plus these days, so I need to learn it. I have Dreamweaver and Flash, but haven't had the patience to sit and learn them. If I take a class, it's more likely to get my butt in gear.

Don't even bother learning the WYSIWYG portions of dreamweaver. I don't think any serious web designers actually use them.

If you want to be successful as a web designer I'd recommend you have a strong base comprised of HTML (easy to learn), CSS (also easy, but takes practice to perfect), and PHP (easy to learn if you have programmed, not quite so easy if you haven't programmed). You already have the graphical side through your advertising experience.

As for flash, it is hard as hell :(. Basic tweens and basic actionscripting are easy. I learned both via the tutorials that come with flash, they were excellent. However, the flash out on the web right now is so advanced that it would take ages to teach yourself how to make material of that quality. Nothing I can do in Flash can compare to the professionally designed flash sites, but I don't have much experience with the application. I'm sure classes could get you to that level. You should enroll at Parsons :), it really is an impressive school, and we have plenty of time based media classes in Design and Technology.

Yeah- I know HTML isn't that hard. I've had friends show it to me before. It reminded me of Basic back in the 80's when I was in high school, (shut up with the old man stuff:)) you had to program everything back then. I think the first thing I did was a Christmas tree with flashing lights. :)

Yeah- I did the tutorials in Flash too, but I need more than that.

And sweetie- I'm not moving to NYC, I love Chicago and I've become accustomed to a certain lifestyle. You know, like owning a TV and having a backyard, even though it's the size of postage stamp. :)

My back yard is Union Square, doesn't get much better than that :D.

I am in no position to say that NYC > Chicago, I've only flown through Chicago, but New York City kicks ass. I suppose you probably know more about the city than I do, though, so you don't need me to tell you that. :)

Nighty night :).

Trust me Chip Splash is full of creeps.

Sorry, but I can;t think of a place that I wen to in my youth that gave me the creeps. Back in my "day", it was the Frat House (with the most loving Judy), Badlands and the Lost & Found for the best dance floors. Maybe Mr. P's was the "creepiest" since that was where the "call boys" hung out.

I get disheartened at times with comments about the 40+ crowd. I lost my dance edge many years ago. It is all I can do to make my one bad knee last me a day at work sometimes.

Though I think I understand where both of your posts are coming from. Been there, done that as they say. But to pick on scem a bit here, I wonder how he would feel about me being a lurker of the dance floor, but supportive of his intellect and heart? For in my day, I would be labeled a "troll". Looking at it from only the bar scene.

Though scem did raise the bar by saying in a post that as long as an "older" person was willing to let him have his "way" on the dance floor, then things were open. I am not picking on scem, and I hope that he realizes it.

For he is a fun, articulate, educated, and intelligent young man (as his posts seem to indicate). He has many of the qualities I think and hope that I had at his age.

Some may fault me on wanting to hold on to my "youth", by seeking younger men (at times). Farthest from the truth. For I have been hit upon by "boys" 18-21, when I was with my ex.

I am just not ready to roll up and die, as some of my age "peers" seem to be ready to do. I am ready for someone, whether 20 or 60 that is willing to live life with some zest.

Ok- Without a doubt NYC is awesome. Don't get me wrong. However, here I can have ONE job and a huge rehabbed 3 bedroom vintage apartment in a nice gay neighborhood for $1150 per month. I also get all the opportunities here I could get in NYC. I have a roommate I've known since college, so it's quite comfy. :) But I DO love New York.

Dammit- I was going to go to bed. :)

Chip- honestly, you have to go to Splash to know what we mean. I have no problem with older guys for the most part and have dated them (did I ever tell you about my pudgy businessman fetish? I've dated a lot of those, especially the freckly redheaded ones), but a lot of the guys at Splash are just frightening. You can see it in their eyes. They aren't interested in you at all- they're predators. And we don't use "troll" anymore. That's just terrible. And I too, wish I was as smart as scem0 at his age.

Remember this too- being alone is not the end of the world. I've been single for the last three years. Sometimes, after a long term realtionship, it's good to be alone for a while to get to know yourself again, and to learn to be alone and know that it's OK.

I too have only flown through Chicago. And only on my recent trip to Sf this past July. It was an early morning trip out of DCA. I tried to doze, since I had to be up at 4Am in order to allow time for the TSA.

I was aroused from my slumber as we made our final descent in to ORD. I looked out my window to watch the farm land beneath me give way to villages below. From the villages, came the small towns. From the small towns, came the small cities, and they meddled into the suburbs of Chicago. That gave way to the industrial heartland that made Chicago great. We then winged our way over the Great Lakes, seeing the majestic Chicago skyline in the distance.

I have flown a lot in this country. And never did I feel such awe for what we were as a nation as I did flying in to ORD that one July morning.

Maybe scem and I can do a swap. He and I could take the Chinatown bus to visit each other. I am sincerely afraid now to go any where near Splash. Even in my darkest days as a youth I can not think of one place that I could even compare to what you both are trying describe. Maybe iGary can give me some perspective.

Yeah, the people in Splash couldn't be further from you when it comes to mentality and purpose, Chip. They aren't looking for anything meaningful, and that is more than apparent. After the contests, the security guards often escort the winner home because they are worried about rape. I live two blocks away, I'm good at handling myself in sticky situations, and I've taken years and years of martial arts (not that it would help me all that much at gunpoint), so I don't get too worried when I leave the club. I'm always careful though, especially when I'm leaving the club. "Predator" is a good word, props to Lee.

Wow! I could not think of going to any place like that, no matter how cool or Gay.

Reminds me of the reputation that the Natons bar had in DC in recent years. There were those of us that stayed away at all costs. Then there were those that went, since it was "cool" to have been there on particular weekend.
