All this talk about keyboard problems is getting me worried. For the record - feedback from my 8 months using a 15" MBP - I have had no keyboard issues, or otherwise. I often eat when using my mbp and regularly flick or dab crumbs (with a moist finger) off my keyboard, and wipe off light food marks. So far I haven't noticed any problems.... im surprised I haven't had issues yet as im prime candidate <fingers crossed>...
My keyboard starting failing after 15 months and I don’t eat anywhere near it.

I asked if they would replace it with gen 3, she said no, but they’re “no more or less prone to failure as the older ones”.

hey this one is easy. tell them that the gen 3 keyboard has condoms for each key. ask them is sex is safer with or without a condom.

I love Apple, but hate the keyboard and the touchbar on my Macbook Pro 2018. Tried to be as positive as I could be, but over time - can't stand those two items.
Yeah, they've pushed me away from the mac platform. I don't see myself returning, I'm very happy on a windows laptop, and in many ways more efficient, I find working in windows to be better for my workflow, though I miss some of the things that macos provided.

After finding out I enjoy the feeling of the 3rd gen keyboardds I'm sad to report that mydd, e and space now do this upon opening up my laptop this morning. This is ddisappointing to say the least. Because I do type a lot.

Maybe it is related to heat because I havee been playing a lot of Team Fortress 2 lately.

Now do I get it fixed or take addvantage of Costco's generous return policy? That's the real question.

What a bummer man.

That sucks. If it was me, I would take advantage of Costco's return policy and wait for the next MBP. I suspect Apple will address the KB issue with the next refresh.

It could be a long wait. Latest news on rumors is that the redesign is 2021.

I assume you're referring to the 16.5 MBP rumor. Regardless of the 16.5 model, I would think Apple will have a number of refreshes before 2021. And I am of the opinion that Apple really does not want Gen4 butterfly KB issues, can you imagine the PR nightmare that would bring? I think they'll fix it well before 2021 and make it part of a refreshed model (same general design) but who knows, this could just be my optimism talking.

Whatever fix they do, it would have to be in the same space envelope and I think that there are limitations with the current degree of thinness. I'd love them to make the TB optional too. A redesign would provide cover.

Yeah it will be interesting to see if they can do it, how they do it etc... I just think they must do something effective next time around, even just for the sake of stemming the tide of bad PR.

I don't think the bad PR is getting to them. Their computer division still is as profitable as ever. The only way Apple is going to change is if people vote with their wallets but that does not seem to happen a lot.

[...] users began noticing a curious behavior. Pressing a key on the keyboard would sometimes generate multiple identical characters on the screen, as if the key had been pressed more than once. At first, only one key would be affected, but later the problem would spread to more keys. The problem, known as keybounce, made typing very difficult [...]

Is it a Macbook Pro review? Or the iFixit tear-down?

Do they sell any good soft rubber covers for the keys like they used to do for the old plastic white macbooks, as i can remember those were quite popular back then.

Well my 2018 which I purchased a few months back is now suffering from the same fate as the Gen 1 and Gen 2 boards. Caps lock doesn't always work on the firs press aand the aa key is adding a's to my text.

Caps is really a feature, so you actually have to press it for a bit longer than other keys to activate (to prevent accidental activations).

As for repeating keys... welcome to the club.

Guess I will have to wait a while until it gets worse and get it fixed. I took out Apple Care + put boy what a waste of money. Wouldn't be so bad if apple could actually fix the problem but they can't! They just replace faulty keyboards with faulty keyboards that work for a period and they fail again. Time for me to move away from MAC's, they are nothing like what they once were.

Sucks, mate. It's ridiculous given the cost of these things, particularly here in the UK.

But don't worry, @leman will be along in a moment to tell you how his fleet of MBPs have had almost no KB failures and remind you that all other laptop brands statistically have even higher failure rates than MBPs. So at least you'll have that to look forward to...

Happy to know that my teachings are reaching the masses :D

I can't say that I have ever had that "problem," and I put "problem" in quotes because my caps key does activate quickly on every press and I do occasionally get accidental activations :)

There is definitely a delay, you can test it yourself. Just push the button fast enough for it not to activate. Use the same speed for any other key and you'll get a response.

Or a double response if you have a 2018 model. Or no response if you have a 2016 or 2017... [sigh]

How much of a delay do you perceive that there is? I have a *really* hard time pressing it fast enough that it won't register a caps lock on or off. Maybe it isn't quite as fast as the other keys, but it is barely perceptible and accidental activations are still common for me.
