What a dumb move. I am living without it in my 2016 Mazda, although there is a factory hardware/software upgrade to enable it; just isn't a priority for me right now. The Mazda infotainment interface isn't too bad.

But GM is going to suffer from this, even though I do not have any vehicles with CarPlay currently, anything brand new I get will need to have it standard.

Why do you need entertainment in a car? I do not even need a radio.
I don’t use a radio either. And I have a nav system to boot. I don’t need Apple CarPlay or android. People are getting really worked up over this and it’s not even out yet, and we don’t know what they’re gonna offer.

Wow. This is a surprise for sure. The one great thing about CarPlay and android auto is it’s a consistent experience across the board but now this is fragmenting the industry standard now.

I legitimately was torn between the Chevy Blazer EV and Equinox EV but now those are both out. I’ll look elsewhere at this time. Sad.

I don’t personally care about CarPlay or Android Auto myself, but it is such a strange decision to remove a feature that has become standard. I don’t anticipate the other automakers doing this.

Nonetheless, just another reason for people not to buy a Chevy. Give us combustion engines. Give us CarPlay. And give us transmissions that don’t die at 100,000 miles. Not many reasons to buy a Chevy anyway!

I know my opinion doesn’t matter, but I don’t like this one bit. I wish I had a car that had apple CarPlay. I hope to be able to afford one; guess if it’s GM, it will have to be used. 😆

I wouldn't doubt if the removal of CarPlay and Android Auto were terms of the agreement with Google.

I'm not defending it, and I don't think it's a wise business decision, but I'm sure GM is looking at this as a move gather analytics in support of their services business and not a choice about consumers preferred in car infotainment systems.

That said, I saw somewhere that 85% of consumers wouldn't even consider a car without CarPlay. The only one that's been able to buck this trend is Tesla, but I think that's because they offered such a unique product. As EVs become common place, they will likely have to get friendly with CarPlay too. As competition rises in the EV space, little things like CarPlay will make a huge difference.

This is awesome!! Makes car shopping easier for sure. EVs are going to have to differentiate & lack flexibility will be ok with some.

Really? Honda is doing the exact same thing. You can't get CarPlay on the new 2023 Accord.
I hadn't heard Honda was doing this. Just looked - the 2023 Accord does come with the Google built-in crap, but it does include CarPlay across all trims. No mention of Android Auto, though.

The whole Google built-in concept is my bigger concern. Too much control over the vehicle and control systems to a company not known for sticking with the applications and well known for aggressive data collection.

Until recently they offered something unique with no competition, people did not have a choice.
As more EV's show up offering choice, CarPlay will be more of a decisive factor.

...uh huh...I've heard that before many times, and yet everytime Tesla is still the best selling EV by a landslide, and now the Model Y and 3 are both in the top 10 best selling cars in the world

General Motors (GM) will phase out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its vehicles starting this year, shifting to a built-in infotainment system co-developed with Google (via Reuters).

GM owns Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC in the United States. It will stop offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto starting with the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer, which goes on sale this summer. The company plans to continue offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its combustion models, which are expected to be phased out by 2035 in favor of electric vehicles. Owners of existing GM cars that currently have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be able to continue using the systems.

GM has worked on infotainment software with Google since 2019 that tightly integrates with other vehicle systems such as navigation and GM's Super Cruise driver assistant. Future GM infotainment systems will offer applications such as Spotify and Audible, and iPhone users will still be able to listen to music and make phone calls using Bluetooth. EV buyers will also get access to Google Maps and Google Assistant at no extra cost for a period of eight years.

The move is expected to help the automaker gather more data about how consumers drive and accelerate a strategy to incentivize vehicle-related digital subscription services. Notably, GM was not included in Apple's list of automakers that plan to offer the next-generation CarPlay experience.
