Apple's ads should not mention another operating system in them. They should be:

"Look, I'm a mac, I'm awesome in my own right. Look what I can do..."

not

"Look how bad your current OS is. You should try me, because yours really sucks. Yours is the worst ever. Did I mention your OS sucks? it SUCKS!"

Which explains why you are living in your moms basement and not on the Apple board of directors.

Two of my friends just got Vista machines (one desktop and another on a laptop) and they've both worked flawlessly....

Well, there you have it boys. All the negative reviews, public outcry, even Bill Gates own admission the OS failed.... are all bunk.

Why?

Because gkarris's friends just got a machine with Vista.... and it works flawlessly.

My friend who got the laptop got a really nice looking HP Special Edition on sale for $799. I hate to admit to this, but it made me *kind of* regret my MacBook purchase. He got a more powerful processor, more RAM, larger hard drive, a nicer Nvidia graphics chipset, than my refurbished black MacBook for $1049.

And, BTW, ALL the new HP laptops blow away the ugly white MacBooks.

I'm sorry to say, but you also have missed the point.

Yes - the machine your friend bought has a high spec - but there is one major factor that differentiates your friends machine over your macbook - his runs Windows, yours runs OSX.

I could go out today and buy a very high spec laptop at a cut-price but it wouldn't be running OSX...

If you want your computer to look pretty - then thats what you should aim for and buy. Personally - I appreciate the uncluttered designs of Apple hardware - they never get in the way of the task at hand and are utterly timeless.

Once more, these ad's aren't about 'we have more ram' - or - 'we look prettier' - its about consumers and how they want to use their machines to do everyday things seamlessly.

i have apple products at home...
the deal is that i am not satisfied with the ads and systems apple is offering us/me.
btw u guys should hope that apple will never turn inot a giant...
that would be a greater mess than it is with ms.
they already reached a point where they are at their limits to handle.

and just because i dont believe everything what a apple ad/ steve jobs says makes me into a ms fanboy.
well if i am not with u i am ur enemy right?
there can only be apple or ms right (where is the grey zone)? typical apple fanatic thinking...
try to question some things in life please... it makes life more fascinating and interesting.

soooooo, doesn't that make the statement in Apple's ad, "Vista still doesn't work" false?

Or in your world, Apple = The Ultimate Truth?

Which explains why you are living in your moms basement and not on the Apple board of directors.

Also, my statement works perfectly well for the iPod marketing, because they follow it to a T. Therefore, I think it is a sound course of action.

I guess Steve Jobs lives in his mother's basement!

What I don't understand is with all these ads showing of the flaws of Vista, and there are many, Apple is not providing XP64 drivers for boot camp. 64-bit drivers are only available for Vista. I have to run Windows on the Mac Pros in the lab for certain applications. I have 8GB in the machines so I want to run 64-bit. And there are still applications that do not run correctly under Vista. So please provide XP64 drivers.

Watch your language. Your vocabulary is so pathetic that you can't come up with another adjective?

Although we can assume his use of the word was meant in the "derogatory" sense, when did the definition of "gay" add the meaning - "of, indicating, or supporting homosexual interests or issues."

Certainly not in the late 60's early 70's when I grew up to watching 'The Flintstones' cartoon and of course their theme song that says... "we'll have a gay ole time" and of course, "The nineteen twenties was an interesting decade. I suppose the twenties were called the Gay Twenties due to the fact that people were very happy back then. ..."

So when in Society was the change made from calling something gay as an adjective defining happy, merry to a noun defining person and their state of being? Anyone know?

Apple entered iPod marketing years ago on a level playing field in a market that wasn't yet mature.

In fact, ipod marketing appealed to an audience in a very 'fashion / zeitgiest' way - you very rarely saw much of the device or its functions at all.

Only recently have the adverts actually gone some way in showing off features - and that's really only for the iPhone! They've gone to the lengths of showing features in the iPhone because again, its a mass market appeal device straight out of the box - there is very little brand loyalty in the mobile device market - and also, its a breakthrough device that is changing the market.

There's a vast difference between Apple's variosu amrketing strategies for individual products - they are clear individually and when put together are very strong - I just wish people could see it.

Maybe you have to be in the industry of marketing and advertising to understand who they are trying to appeal to - and how the ad's are actually working.

lol... interesting response that people here are having.
personally, i really liked the yoga one...
but i do agree that they may be stretching this campaign a littleeeeee bit too far.

I agree, and now these threads are nothing but heated debates where people don't care about others' opinions.

MOD: I say lock this one.

Apple: Stop already...

I thought the Yoga one was pretty hilarious honestly, the I get it one seemed kinda lame. And people ask me why I love redheads so much (yeah I know Judy Greer's not naturally red) but man shes making me shake.. in a good way :D

I think these ad's are great, pretty funny and I do think they work with the general switching public. I do agree with a lot of people here and think that it would be nice to have some ads that are like the iPhone ads and really show off some of the nice Mac features.

So...you've basically just admitted that you're trolling here...

Why am I trolling? Because I said I don't like OS X and prefer Windows XP?

Correct me if I'm wrong but there are other parts to Apple than just OS X, elements I quite like, hence why I visit this site.

yoga and Vista together

The yoga ad works very well for me because friend of mine from work is always griping about how much she HATES Vista. It drives her crazy. And the yoga fits because I took her to a yoga class once and it almost killed her. She thought it was just going to be navel gazing and didn't realize it was actually going to be hard work. So for me to have both in one commercial is perfect on a personal level.

Also, Judy's hair color looks really good. :D

This whole 'OS X "just works"' thing is bollocks really, if Mac had the 95+% userbase that Microsoft has believe me there would be just as many issues going public as there are with MS.

I found the Yoga ad kinda funny, except for the part of "Vista still not working". Two of my friends just got Vista machines (one desktop and another on a laptop) and they've both worked flawlessly....

My friend for $50 less than a Mini got a machine twice the power and twice more features (DVD burner, discreet 8000 series nVidia graphics card). (Yes, this has been discussed to death already).

My point: stop the MS/PC bashing...

Dear Apple,

You REALLY NEED to stop these ads, they're starting to make you look pretty bad.

Here's my rendition:

Mac, played by old guy with white hair, white beard, and white robe and cane.
PC, say, played by Nellie Furtado (or insert favorite good-looking person here)...

Mac: I'm the newly updated MacBook!
PC: I'm the new HP Special Edition PC Notebook!
Mac: I run OS X and everything is integrated.
PC: I run Vista and I'm powerful enough to do so!
Mac: PC, is that you in there?
PC: No, he's been replaced, we're newly designed, less costly, and can run Vista! (starts dancing and singing).
Mac: no way...PC, PC, you in there???

I have to admit, HPs x700 series are very good notebooks. I would like to have the 8400m option and the expresscard 54 slot with the TV tuner, but at the end of the they run Vista and that annoys me slightly more the good looking and thin but feature poor designs Apple's been putting out.

My understanding is that if they are running these ads, it means they have been effective in raising the band awareness which translates to higher sales.
These ads are not intended to point out how Macs are better but simply to point out an alternative (which still many people are not aware of) and a good alternative.

If you don't believe this, just visit some of the hackintosh sites and you will notice that some people get sucked into building a Mac Hack, which some of them get successful and some not, and eventually some ends up buying a new Mac or clearly show intention to do so. So you can see just raising brand awareness (albeit with hacks) leads to potential sales.

I think people in general agree that the ads work. However, forcing someone to do something at gun point works also, but it doesn't mean its the best way to accomplish the task.

All I am saying is, and a lot of other people have said it, its embarrassing. I can't defend apple to people for this kind of attitude. Its this whole campaign that is really going to bring apple's flaws to the spotlight.
