Well, Apple has had their fair share of faulty products due to poor design, including exploding batteries. It should be noted that Samsung was first with large displays, first with iris and face scanning, first with bezel-less design, first with OLED phones, and first and only with curved displays. They are masters at design. Samsung revolutionized new levels of man-machine interface with Smart Scroll. Apple? 3D Touch. A pressure sensitive display offers no real-world usability in a TOUCH SCREEN device. 3D Touch is a dud that no one uses. It's a failed attempt at developing the next-gen human interface.

Not to mention Samsung's POWERFUL CPU and GPU with MORE cores than Apple's pathetic A chips with how much RAM? Exactly. Samsung phones DESTROY EVERY iPHONE. EVERY. iPHONE. Just look at the specs. There's no comparison. More cores, more RAM. Apple's new A11 is just marketing, including the embarrassing name: Bionic. Are intelligent people supposed to be fooled by this? Bionic? Really? With Samsung, it's more, more, more. iPhones are less, less, less.

Also, Samsung phones don't come pre-loaded with bloatware. iCloud crap, Pages, Keynote, Numbers, Clips, iMovie, GarageBand, Music Memos, Health, Podcasts, News, iBooks, Reminders, and everyone's favorite: Stocks and Tips. Apple seems to think they can differentiate their software with productivity and creativity tools. Samsung doesn't even have a software portfolio akin to iWork and iLife and yet people just love their Galaxy phones. Samsung design wins.

I actually appreciated your sarcasm :D

Duh. Don't drop your phone.

I swear we live in a time where people are just so irresponsible and entitled.

People really get mad at Apple for heir glass breaking meanwhile THEY dropped their phone. Same with water damage.

Same thing with Face ID now : “oh no the police can just point it at my face! or my girlfriend can point it at my face while I’m sleeping!”

People are so annoying and worked up over nothing. It’s ridiculous.

It's a good thing Tim & Apple spent the majority of their resources and money on this easily shatterable version instead of the best X!

Quick thought and I have no knowledge about this but you know that glass that is used for that bridge in China that I will NEVER EVER walk across. Well why can't we get that glass on phones?

These drop tests are just ridiculous. Who would have thought that glass shatters...
I've had almost every iPhone and never had a shattered screen... I just don't drop it.

only thing I gather is Apple Care + 1 screen replacement is more expensive than paying for the screen repair without apple care?
Yeah and that doesn't even consider third party repairs. AppleCare is something every single person needs to consider carefully, for some products and use cases, it isn't worth the cost of admission.

As expected Apple knows that smartphone sales is going down due to market saturation and lack of innovation. This is not exclusive to Apple and we’re already anticipating this for quite sometime. However Cook is smart as he is the the glass casing and iPhone X is the bandaid for the problem. Raising the price for Apple Care and increasing the co-pay, a more expensive iPhone X for extra revenue and the glass casing to increase the number of repairs. On top of that a more expensive Apple Watch and a kickbacks from monthly data plan. Next thing you heard Apple will be talking more profits despite of low sales on iPhone on the next earning results.

It's 7" thick. That's why. It's also laminated. Durable, non breakable glass doesn't exist for mobile devices like this. It just doesn't. Glass breaks. Especially when it's this thin. Don't want a glass phone? Don't buy one or put it in a case.

I also think the drop test is always BS due to it being LAUNCHED to the ground. Also, your mileage will always vary. I've never had a cracked screen or back on any iPhone and I've dropped two phones, only once each. I also don't use cases.

Prone to dropping? Get an Otter Box.

never liked the glass back, had it on my iPhone 4 was a total nightmare, then was so happy when the 6 came out with no glass on back, sadly ill be going from the 6 to the x and sadly phones from here on out will continue to have glass back so I'm screwed

Glass is a silly material to make things out of.

Wow, and to think they made the tiles for the Space Shuttle out of Corning glass. Yet the Space Shuttles never burned up during re-entry. (Challenger was an O-Ring problem.)

All those dolts who make fiber optics! And the imbeciles who made giant telescopes with glass!!

Yep, glass is really silly to make things out of... :rolleyes:

Correction... its a silly material to make a mobile phone out of. Actually, I'd go further to say its a ridiculously stupid material to make a mobile phone out of.

I don’t drop my phone. Never have since day the B.B. days. Non issue.

Welcome to the 0.01 percent of people that never drop their phone. And just because you haven't yet doesn't mean it isn't going to happen in the future. I don't drop mine a lot, but I do drop it sometimes, as does everyone in my family.

We know phones break, what would you expect? iPhone X will break as any other new phone in the future, they are not nokias, they break, you can give the phone and I will tell you yup it is glass... it will break. don't trashed it, give it to me instead, good thing most of the phones can be recycled, otherwise wise your are not very nice with with the environment and emerging economies.

I don't agree with this. I think Apple, like some of other companies, has been taken over by people like Jony Ive that thinks he's designing museum art, not a functional phone. Apple could make a phone with a focus on utility and that would not require a case for 95% of their customers to be able to use it. But they chose not to. Designing something that most people will drop routinely out of glass is stupid.

And it is possible to make something that wouldn't easily break. Look at the Amazon tablets that they show in their commercial being dropped down a flight of stairs and not breaking. And they cost way less than an iPhone. With a large screen, and tablet should more easily break than a phone.

How dumb is it to spend all this energy making a gorgeous outer case on something that most will just cover up? I take my phone out of my case about every 3-4 months for a good cleaning... I say to myself how nice it looks... then put it back in the case.

Well... given the thickness required I seriously doubt anyone would actually carry it around, thus eliminating the need for the thick glass.

OTOH, how about "transparent aluminum"?

Which Samsung phone was better than this iPhone? (had to dig it out of the closet)

Oh, for crying out loud. No one is going to drop their phone from six feet. By far the most common drop case is when it's being pulled out of a pocket, or someone stands up and forgets it was in their lap, etc.

Wow, you are the gift that just keeps on giving. I would happily dispute everyone of your assertions (first does not mean better as Apple has proven time and time again) but you seriously want to argue that Samsung has more powerful CPUs and GPUs? By what possible metric? Samsung loses in real world and geek bench tests every time. And more RAM is obviously not the solution.

You are just being silly.

The fact that the Samsung phone was rendered unusable while the iPhone functioned normally should make everyone raise an eyebrow. These tests are not scientific and certainly biased towards Apple. Samsung's industrial design is legendary in consumer products so these results make very little sense.
