I tried out the watch app today and it's unusable. The distance doesn't update quickly enough, and I couldn't figure out a way to get it to update. I started asking my cart partner for distances from his Garmin. Looking forward to the app that works.
Let me say that I had just enough close encounters with clubs hitting the watch while putting them in the bag to make me nervous about playing with the watch.
Thanks I'll try it today.I advise you to try Fun Golf GPS. This golf app works very fast and accurate with the Apple Watch. It also shows the distance to hazards.
I bought the Pro version and tried it, but it's not much better than hole 19, i've got a refund, not sure if you can do the same ????Thanks I'll try it today.
Actually, it costs $20 - is there a way to try it first? Given my experience yesterday I'm not likely to shell out money unless I see it works.
In the Netherlands we have the right to ask for refund within 14 days. So you can try the app. For me it works well, so i paid $ 20,--. Ik think it's worth this amount. Thanks I'll try it today.

I wonder if this will be added now that access to the accelerometer has been granted to developers?Does the app make use of the Apple Wacth's accelerometer for any biomechanical analysis?
Just picked up the apple watch and haven't used it on the course yet. But I have been using Golfshot for the past 18 rounds on my iPhone. I tend to have the same issues obtaining updated distances immediately after the phone is unlocked. For those having issues with the distance on the watch updating....It may be an issue with the app and not the watch. I have sent golfshot an email suggesting a bug with the background GPS setting. I noticed regardless of the minutes it's set too....the GPS arrow seems to disappear after the phone is locked. It turns on immediately after its unlocked and briefly displays "weak gps" under the displayed yardage.
As a temporary fix to improve responsiveness try putting the app on the phone in power save mode. That seems to ensure GPS remains active.

I totally agree with this recommendation, and another tip or two:
- turn 'Auto-Lock' on the iPhone's settings to 'never'
- turn iPhone brightness to its darkest setting (to save power)
- don't lock the phone
- spend $12 for a small, external battery pack for the phone (which is a good thing to have handy anyway) and leave it plugged in during your round.
Doing this, Golfshot is deadly accurate and amazingly fast: virtually no 'bouncing' yardages, almost always instantly accurate. Pulling up hazard distances was equally easy, fast and accurate.
Even though this is a workaround to a problem that should be easy for Golfshot to resolve, it is also a pretty good indication of why the Watch is going to be successful. Nothing easier than looking at my wrist and getting an immediate yardage indication.
Please give a report on the app. I am going to the US in August and considering buying a Watch and this app, or other GPS golf apps, is a main deciding factor in buying a Watch or not.You don't need to leave the screen on or unlocked. As long as you put the app in "power save mode" first before locking the phone, battery should last a while. Playing a round today and will report back.
In general many bad reviews of the app. That sucks. But what do you guys think, will the app ever be perfect with this version of the Watch?I tried using Golfshot last weekend and by the 6th hole I ducked into the house (yes, I live a glorious life on a golf course) and grabbed my Garmin S2. So so much faster and accurate.
I hate this. Was hoping the Apple watch would let me retire my Garmin running and golf watches.

It's the main app on the iPhone that is the issue and not the watch itself. Once they get the GPS background bug ironed out it will be better. A tweak of the screen layout on the watch and it could be perfect.
