Switching is worth a try. I for example am the opposite. I have been an Android only user since the beginning and got tired of the lack of carrier updates and my user experience quality becoming poor after a year. This year I switched to an iPhone and am so happy with the experience so far.

The fact an Android phone -needs- more than 2GB of RAM is more the issue here.

The HTC One W8 had 2GB of RAM and it ran Windows Phone absolutely perfectly. Hell, same OS ran well on phones with 512MB of RAM!

Exact same hardware running Android ran like a dog. Not a fast dog like a whippet or greyhound, a dog like 'ol whistler with his 3 legs and bad hips.

This will always be the case given the 2 varied paradigm the said OSs operate under. Both Apple & windows mobile are developed for specific hardware types. Android, on the other hand, is developed as an open platform.

The less control the developers have the more complicated it gets & the less optimised it can be for specific tasks. That’s just how nature is.

Just picked up an iPhone 8 for the wife and even though the phone might “look dated” I still can appriciate its build quality and I think it’s well worth its money.

I have never used a phone with the finger print reader on the back but I can only imagine how cumbersome it must be to always pick up the phone just to unlock it.

I’m glad Apple went with a more conventional design.

It will be interesting to see how well FaceID will work.
It actually works fine. Just not how Samsung does it on the S8 or Note 8. The G6 is fine

OnePlus 5, that rocks for the moment! Fastest charge in a small amount of time, slowest discharge with the most high standby time by all means!

I don't have much to say in this letter, not even sure if this is the right place to post. I've bought almost every model of iPhone from the iPhone 3 in 2008, and loved mostly every experience of it.. until now. It seems everything's going to hell with Apple. I'll be searching for a downgrade of a phone, but I will no longer support this company, even if it means a worse phone experience.

Don't ever be loyal to any One company. I've never been loyal to any company in my life. I go for the best deals and what suits me best. I tried the S8 for 3 months couldn't stand android so I hoped for a bezel-less iPhone with OLED to replace the S8 and its come true the iPhone X is exactly what i want.

Reading the original post, I can’t help but get a feeling like someone’s describing a one-way stalker relationship that’s come to an end when the object of their attention has finally found a life partner and that person is just the total opposite of the stalker in every way.

My point is... don’t build an unhealthy obsession with a brand. When it comes to tech, use what works for you until it doesn’t. If the next new thing doesn’t work for you, stick with what does. If that trend continues, find something else that fits your wants and needs and tastes.

The problem as I see it is that a lot of people who complain about Android don't really have experience with it. A lot of the time, their experience with "Android" is via Samsung or LG, and those of us who are really familiar with Android understand that what those two companies do to Android and how they implement it in their phones is really a bastardization of the OS.

Sometimes what can make Android terrible on a Samsung phone is the fault of Samsung and not Android itself.

That maybe true but you can't force their hand. I gave up a long time ago trying to convince people to change platforms, its a waste of time.

Right. I'm not interested in getting people to change platforms; I like them both and am looking to possibly move to Android with the Pixel 2.

I just want people to focus their ire where it belongs, which a lot of the time is Samsung. Many, many, many times I have seen people complain about "Android", and what kinds of phones did these people have? Samsungs. And what problems did they have? They had problems with Samsung's software.

Android is not a piece of crap. Samsung is the piece of crap.

I'm not going to say Android sucks as I don't have enough experience of it other than playing with other peoples Samsung's. It's just that I am used to iOS and the convenience of it all. Setting up a new phone is just so easy, all your contacts, docs, pics etc. are all there, no stress no worries. Plus I am also entrenched into the Apple eco-system with iTunes, Apple Music, iCloud etc. on all my Apple devices. Its just going to be too much of a headache to move everything to another platform and then there's the security aspect as well in terms of viruses etc.

I'm not in love with Apple but I just don't fancy anyone else at the moment so I will continue in this marriage of convenience even though I have to pay a premium for it. You can't put a price on peace of mind! Okay, you can, it's £1149.

Well I have a S8 and really like it but what stops me from using it is how my other Apple stuff works together. If I only had the iPhone I would definitely consider a permanent switch.

I am still in shock from the release of the iPhone 8, and X. I feel like someone I was in a trustworthy relationship over a long period of time stabbed me in the back and walked away. I guess It's my fault for letting myself get attached to a company.

iPhone X isn't perfect. It is flawed, and Apple, if you truly think it's appropriate to ask your community to "get used to" or adjust to the akward black bevel on your "borderless screen" that.. by the way blocks videos and makes the experience inconvenient for an outstanding price you're wrong.

and about the iPhone 8.. well it's nothing special compared to the iPhone 6s. They're basically the same, with some small upgrades. Not worth the price.

What are your guys opinions about apples recent decisions? Am I the only one?

If you've been in the Apple ecosystem for that amount of time moving to Android will just end up costing you as you build up apps/purchases again. For Android, while there are a lot of good things going on, there are just as many screwed up areas.

Android pros:

  1. Customizable
  2. Google Assistant is light years ahead of Siri
  3. Superior for parental controls (for this I'd never give an iPhone to a child; iPhones are impossible to lock down)
  4. Samsung pay is light years ahead of anyone else (Samsung only; Samsung pay works on any stripe reader)
  5. Better notification system
  6. Flagship phones are superior in looks, generally in screen technology (Galaxy line of phones, Essential, etc)
  7. More innovation in new technology outside of performance (usb-c, bluetooth 5.0, build materials, screen technologies, sensors)
Android cons:
  1. Hardware is far behind, in terms of performance capability, because Qualcomm
  2. Most phones take forever to see updates to new OS, if ever
  3. Apps, due to having to support such a range of OS versions, often suffer quality wise compared to iOS versions
  4. Much more prone to hacks/spyware
  5. Apps tend to show up on Apple before Android
  6. Many new products are "Apple only" and never really get great support on Android
That said being disappointed in the look of the iPhone isn't really a great reason to feel betrayed or moving on. The iPhone, in overall quality, is still one of the best phones you can get. iOS 11, at least for the iPad line, is a huge move for making the OS more capable. Granted, iOS 11 on the phone isn't nearly as big a deal in terms of usage, but Apple is moving the meter.

Now what happens over the next couple of years may be interesting. The foldable galaxy X is closer to becoming reality, manufacturers big and small are beating Apple hands down in physical design, the app market advantage is shrinking. Apple has a lot to worry about in terms of innovation because at this point they only have performance and app market as an advantage, and because of that android has gained huge marketshare.

Bring back Symbian!!

E71 was one of my favorite phones.

One of my fav phones was the Sony P910 and it ran Symbian UIQ

So here’s my thoughts...
For some strange reason when I did the update this time around my photos were out of order, as was the last time I did an upgrade. I was transferring photos a couple days before this so that could possibly have something to do with it but that made me upset.
That and the fact I can’t lock certain apps with either Touch ID or a code like you can on Android.

I debated on going for the S8+, as one it’s readily available and I don’t have to deal with any of the simple quirks listed above. Even though the s8+ might display a few of its own.... the standard S8 seemed too small and the Note 8 although Cool seemed bigger than I wanted and I don’t have a true use for the stylus pen. I can readily get a mophie battery case made for the s8+ as well.
Then I came to the conclusion there’s a handful of things I do like about the iPhone although I hate iCloud and don’t use iMessage so I’m still on the fence about going towards an android.

If I was considering the iPhone I would want the X as it’s the flagship but the price and me seeing the only 3 differences are the screen quality, which I may not be able to tell or even care about later on, the small battery upgrade, and face ID which is currently a gimmick had me thinking of going for the 8+.
I’m still on the fence between these 3 phones and not sure what I want to do.
Part of me wants to go to and S8+ due to it being refreshingly new and different and me having better control over the phone and the features only thing stopping me is me missing Apple and their ecosystem. (I would have to cancel Apple Music as well, but that’ll also be a good time to try something new)

Question, what’s the biggest differences one would wait out the X vs. getting the 8+??

Once I hear some factual reasons then I can decide between the iPhone or Samsung at that point....

Why wasn’t this “letter” sent to Apple? Seriously, what are we supposed to do about you deciding to leave?

Why not a Pixel 2 XL? Those are being announced this week. Remember that if you go with Samsung, it will take a LONG time before you get OS updates because Samsung has to add all their crap to Android before they can send their update out to their phones.

with samsung phones how much do new OS's even matter? the amount of features that are on samsung phones you have everything you need on those devices. Samsung still get support for at least two years and really thats more than enough as on any iphone older than two years it begins to slow down anyway

I am so locked into Apple’s ecosystem, that switching would be so much of a hassle for me. Even though iOS 11 is a mess right now, it seems like a much better choice to wait for them to work out the kinks then to abandon ship.

Android isn’t utter garbage. It’s actually quite refined and well designed. Just not my cup of tea. But that’s just how I feel.

I don’t understand people saying the 8 is like the 6s. Sure, if all you care about is the physical look then it is. But common, are people still stuck up on looks of a phone?

The 8 is miles ahaead of the 6s in almost every single way. The processor bump alone every year is enough for me to think about upgrading.

The only thing you can do is vote with your wallet. I got my 8 and I like it a lot as an upgrade over my 6. BUT the design is old no doubt and its not where Apple should be but it's a good phone. Just FYI I have a S8 that I use for VR so I have a decent comparison for phones. I still rather have the 8 as my everyday phone over the S8.

Interesting. Why do you prefer the 8 over the S8? Id be interested hear the differences in OS experiences. To be honest I am seriously considering the Note 8.

Did you get the 8? Whlle the IP8 and the IP5 S might roughly look the same, IMHO, the performance of it is better than my old IP7 and certainly better than my older IP6 S.

Well I originally had the iPhone 4s or whatever. And this was back when you had to use a laptop or whatever to do a software update. At that time I wasn’t feeling the phone and switched to the Galaxy’s S3. Great phone and I had complete control on customizing it (could make a picture show up in background text). As that phone approached two years old it became slow and bogged down. I switched back to iPhone with a 5s at the time and enjoyed it even though I missed some of the features of the galaxy. Got rid of the 5s just to uopgrade to the 6s, mainly I wanted the bigger screen.
Now I’m here debating to jump ship to the Galaxy for that customization factor again, no OS upgrade quirks, better control on security features (like locking down my apps Why can’t apple allow this??) and I’d think I’d enjoy the staus bar for my notifications on android. There’s a few reasons for wanting to move also the s8+ offers a bigger screen w/o the phone feeling to big.
Then I’m like maybe I should stick with Apple it’s easy to use, I can still customize my notifications how I like and I just overall like the simplicity of using this device. I don’t use iCloud, don’t use iMessage, don’t use FaceTime often. Have an Apple TV still in the plastic wrap. I don’t touch my iPad more than a time or two a month.... so I’m torn on what to do. Apple Music is ok but I’m thinking Spotify might be just as good for me, not to mention I can download and app on Android and get so much free music to save to my device...

And to answer the question about the XL 2, I briefly tried a Pixel (work device) and it was horrible. Got rid of it quick. I’ve noticed I don’t like most Droid phones other than the Samsung series. The others one feel like a mess and seems to have a bunch of settings that are not necessary.
(However not an LG fan but I will say that V30 is amazing and that will bring them into the game for sure.)

Fast forward to this let’s say I decide to stick with Apple, should I wait for the X or move to the 8/8+?
The biggest differences i’m seeing is the screen quality (care less about the “notch”), slightly longer battery life, Face ID instead of touch...

The others one feel like a mess and seems to have a bunch of settings that are not necessary.
That's interesting. Just about everyone in the Android community, including the people who like Samsung phones, feels the opposite. The usual complaints about the Pixels (and Nexus before them) were that the software was just TOO barebones, very much unlike Samsung. I mean, even just going into the Samsung camera app and seeing all the options is just...wow. There's A LOT going on.

That's true but I think Samsung have found the perfect balance between extra features and keeping the OS lean. I honestly prefer it over stock Android now and I was a huge Nexus/Pixel fan.
