Exactly what is the commotion about?
You expect Google and Facebook to provide "essential" services for free, and leave you as a person totally alone and anonymous?
Apple blocks all possibilites to access the data Google/Facebook apparently need to develop their services. They offer money to whomever decides to give them the data. They use the enterprise certificate to achieve their goal. I do not see any problem.

Sheesh, all these entitled people...

So far we've heard about free apps being distributed in this manner... are there any paid apps distributed in this manner?

It seems way better to just pay $300/year for one of these certificates and then have 100% control over everything you're doing with your app than to pay $100/year plus 30% of everything to Apple for you to surrender huge amounts of control over to Apple.

Yep, except it is against the agreement to give apps to anyone who isn't either an employee or in physical presence of an employee. If you aren't Facebook-sized, you're likely to be banned permanently from all developer programs (both as a company and as individuals)

I'm definitely a millennial. An older millennial, but a millennial nonetheless.
I turn 35 Friday and I shudder when people consider me a Millennial. The intergenerational war will rage for all time, certainly. With all respect, Im curious as to why you side (or prefer to side) with the Millennial generation.

Better question: why wouldn't a millennial consider themselves a millennial? This is for you too, who also happens to be a millennial.

Ill give you a few reasons:

- Don't think like one
- Don't act like one
- Don't have many of their generationally-defining experiences
- Have many Gen X generationally-defining experiences
- And I have the distinct advantage of being on the very extreme end of the generation age spectrum, which I presume is how you measure me.

Gotta say, as much as I hate Microsoft and Crapdose, Google and Facebook have always struck me as f'ed up companies. Unfortunately youtube is where it's at, and not being on facebook is kind of like pulling the plug on a big part of current time reality, I've already lived before the internet existed, sure it was fun, but now we have social media moral obligations dictating our conduct, and it's kind of like, a part of reality to be a member of online groups and share your intimate personal details with third party advertisers that you can't opt out of.

Update: Google has issued an apology: "The Screenwise Meter iOS app should not have operated under Apple's developer enterprise program -- this was a mistake and we apologize.
Bs. They knew what they were doing. This wasn’t a mistake. So Google and Facebook just happened to make the same “mistake”? Nope, not buying it. They’re just sorry they got caught.

How do you think millennials think and act?

I’ve seen this suggestion before but can you elaborate what this actually does?

It's a shortcut to get Google results when using DDG (I find some things in DDG aren't as robust - like a business details or some obscure reddit topic I want to find). I *believe* its a little more private in the sense that your search terms aren't logged / mapped but you do end up on the Google landing page so careful where you click from there.

I've been using DDG for a year now. In the beginning I used !g a lot because I was trained on Google's results algorithm (hard to describe but I just liked their search results better than Bing or DDG). Nowadays I rarely use it. DDG gives me 98% of what I am looking for.

Too bad they aren't corrupt politicians that can hide under the immunity card.

It’s time Apple was made to allow unsigned apps to run on iOS, only approved and signed apps on the ApoStore, users have the right to install what software they wish on there devices, on macOS one can go threw the macStore or via third part from a website

iOS needs to be just like this.

Update: Google has issued an apology: "The Screenwise Meter iOS app should not have operated under Apple's developer enterprise program -- this was a mistake and we apologize. We have disabled this app on iOS devices. This app is completely voluntary and always has been. We've been upfront with users about the way we use their data in this app, and we have no access to encrypted data in apps and on devices, and users can opt out of the program at any time."

True or not, this is awfully convenient.

Glad to see an apology from google and then shutting down the program.

I hope Suckerberg is ousted as CEO and Facebook’s stock drops like a rock

Apple PR getting hammered by the Facetime bug so what do you do? You put out stories about how everyone else is bad, too!

Live by the sword (security), die by the sword. With Google they know I buy used clothes on TheRealReal.
