I was about to counter with the fact that the iPhone 7 is 3 year old phone (4? I can't remember), but you're right about the performance. Since the Pixel 3 has a mid-range processor I do wonder if it's on par or better than the iPhone 7.

The iPhone 7 is still significantly faster than the Pixel 3a based on benchmarks and early review results.

Google gets all this innovation and we get....dark mode.
Yep, that will be the biggest applause for iOS 13 at WWDC...and ouch! That price hike Apple.

I use to say Apple should step it up to compete but now I think Apple are too far behind to step it up.
The difference is, that the average consumer is going to use dark mode. Literally the only thing that people that I know use Google assistant and Siri for is setting alarms and timers, and doing simple Wikipedia searches. That’s it.

I wish google (and other companies) were much more privacy focused. I'd love to explore alternatives to Apple for several different products/services but I prefer my data stay with me as much as possible... :/

Companies like Google, Facebook, Samsung, etc all seemingly want to take every single morsel of data they can glean from us and store it all indefinitely for marketing, advertising and research purposes. I'm happy to see google move away from that just ever so slightly by providing the option to remove data after set periods of time.

yep...if it wasn't for the privacy issues I'd probably jump at that $399 Pixel since Tim & Co. absolutely refuse to update the SE.

And Google is doing it right, in this instance, following Business School 101 practices by providing an entry level phone to entice customers into their ecosystem and hook them for life and/or providing a credible low priced phone for emerging markets. How Tim & Co fail to see the value of an updated SE is simply beyond me.

looks like i'll be buying a new battery for my SE for now as I hope and pray Apple offers an updated version soon... :(

Every time I see Google release something new, the first thing I think is "How are they going to steal my information with this?"

Google: Flutter, Fushia (yet to be released)
MSFT: WSL Linux Kernel OSS, Teminal App

Apple better deliver on Marzipan. They may be so far behind when Satya & Sundar start delivering their long-game plays that it just wont matter anymore.

Yeah, no.

Google doesn't seem to have any direction with their OS development (just like they don't know what to do with messaging). We have Android that's well established in mobile (but sucks on tablets). We have Chrome, the wannabee desktop OS that'll never match Windows or macOS for capabilities. Then we have Fuchsia, yet another upcoming OS from Google with no clear indication of what markets it's supposed to fill. Will it replace Android? Chrome? Both of them? Or be separate on its own?

Then we have Google trying to make Chrome more useful by allowing it to run Android Apps. Great, the wannabee pretend desktop OS is supposed to be improved by letting it run Android mobile Apps. Android sucks on tablets, and it's supposed to work good on a larger screened Chromebook? Google is acting like Samsung - throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. Not a good strategy for OS development and not some kind of strategic "long-game" play.

Linux with Microsoft? Sorry, Windows won the desktop war. macOS came in second and Linux is so far behind you can't even see them. I don't see how Linux is in any way a threat to Apple, macOS, iOS or Marzipan. At all.

Do you know how many various cross-platform dev tools there have been over the years? They still haven't delivered on their many promises. Explain this, if you will. How come Android sucks for tablets with very few tablet optimized Apps? If developers really embraced these cross-platform tools, then we should see lots of quality Android tablet Apps that match their iOS counterparts. But we don't. I don't know who's using these tools, but all the developers with those fantastic iPad Apps apparently aren't.

There are already numerous listings for the Pixel 3a over the last 2 days. There are also tests of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 5se (which uses the same processor).

Or you can look at the actual architecture of the processor for more proof. It has 8 cores, but only 2 big cores and 6 small cores. Already at a disadvantage. It also uses older A75/A55 cores and they are clocked significantly slower than they are in other Qualcomm processors (which we have extensive benchmark results for). If you take the clock speed difference between the 845 and the 670, and compare the benchmark results of the 845 to the 670 in the Tab 5se (or the early Pixel 3a results) they align perfectly.

I stand 100% behind my claims.

I'm so sorry that Apple has the best ARM processors on the planet, and that this appears to upset you (and many others) so much.

Almost as dumb as having to point your device at your face to actually use it, or see what's on the screen.
What is the point in having the best in class processor when everything is locked down and can't be put to good use. It's like buying a Lamborghini and limiting the speed to 65 MPH everywhere except the track.

You've got that backwards. I have many Apps on iOS that can utilize a fast processor. It's Android that has the Fisher Price Apps that never utilize anywhere near the capability of the processors in flagship devices.

Is anybody gonna bring up that Google straight up copied iOS gestures down the design of the home bar? They also copied the animation when going home. Apple was 2 years ahead of everyone with iOS gestures, even the copycats can’t get it as fluid as IOS :)

Not a good argument.
Apple has certainly copied some aspects of Android and vice versa.
Moreover, didn't Webos implement gestures years ago?
WebOS Gestures

It’s great that someone else noticed.

Yup but you won’t hear anyone on here actually give apple credit for nailing the gestures and animation back in 2017.

I think it’s funny that when comparing cameras they didn’t bother to compare it to the Xs but decided to go with a phone that’s nearly 2 years old
I think they compared it to "ALL" phones. They never say iPhone they say phone x

Considering that Apple, Google, and Samsung copy each other these days, no one really cares all that much anymore.

Of course not. Because Palm nailed the exact same gestures and animation back in 2009.

Why do people continue to say Pixel has best camera? It isn’t even in top 10.
Your funny, I have been to parties where I get asked to compare my pixel to the iPhone. The iPhone does not even come close. And before you ask they are compared to multiple versions of iPhone Xs 8 and 7s

Of course not. This is Macrumours after all, where Apple is constantly being graded on a curve while the competition is given free pass because “at least they are innovating”.

You go to parties and start a photo comparison between smartphones.

You are just joking, right?
Sadly no, people are so curious when I pull my Pixel out. (To be clear they are family parties)

Nice!!!

They are TeamPixel so why bother.
In order for this to be factual you'd need the following:
Prove that any party would let Pixel user in.
Prove that people would actually let a person start a photo war at a party.

Every heard of YouTube (That Google product) check out the comparison for yourself,

FYI, that is the older Pixel
