On the new Pixel 3a you are not getting the free unlimited "original quality" photo storage that you get with the regular Pixel 3. With the 3a you are getting the free storage that you can get with any Google Photos account. Read the fine print.
Pixel 3a - "¹Google Photos offers free unlimited online storage for all photos and videos uploaded in high-quality. Photos and videos uploaded in high-quality may be compressed or resized. Requires Google Account. Data rates may apply."
Pixel 3 - "Free unlimited online original-quality storage for all photos and videos uploaded to Google Photos from Pixel 3 through 1/31/2022. Photos and videos uploaded before 1/31/2022 will remain free at original-quality. Requires Google Account. Data rates may apply."

Yup, joined a lil bit ago was on MacRumors seen this post by them and figured I would jump in the conversation. So crazy how Apple heads get so riled up over #TeamGoogle . I want to jump in this circus of comments (I should be studying tho)

How long before it is on most other Android devices? Here is the distribution. Pie is only on 10.4% of devices, Oreo (8.1) is only on 15%, so together the two most recent versions just exceed 25%.
Don't know about other phones, I just know Google made products got it

Your kidding that’s it, 10%. Thats seems incredibly low.

Is anybody actually buying new android flagships?

Ok, lets look at it like this, Android 85% of global Market iPhone and other have the rest 15% of something that has 85% of the global market is a larger number than 15%. Simple math bud

Not a good argument.
Apple has certainly copied some aspects of Android and vice versa.
Moreover, didn't Webos implement gestures years ago?
WebOS Gestures

It’s not about who does it first but who does it best. :) Go ask a random iPhone user what WebOS was lol I guess this argument makes people feel so clever.

Considering that Apple, Google, and Samsung copy each other these days, no one really cares all that much anymore.

Of course not. Because Palm nailed the exact same gestures and animation back in 2009.

Lol the good old “PaLM dId it FiRSt hurr DUrr”
Do you think Google copied this because an intern came across a video of WebOS from a decade ago? Or just maybe, Apple nailed it with the iPhone?

Every time I see Google release something new, the first thing I think is "How are they going to steal my information with this?"

The same way and they are stealing information from your iPhone ;-)
Do you use web browsers? No doubt every site you go to is part of Google’s ad services. Gmail, search, YouTube, Maps - all that **** feeds data to Google and everybody else who has the money to pay for it. Pick your poison.

I could not have said it better, funny how people think Google is just Android

You don’t have to use Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps or Google Search on an iPhone though.

Are you on social media, do you go to any websites (cookies) do you have a computer

You really have to fish to create your “point.”
God forbid someone doesn’t use any google services and uses a different search engine. All this to make android users feel better about selling their entire life to Google?

Simple question, clearly you do use at least one of them

First Admit it’s a direct copy
Then Minimize the fact that google copied.
Interesting approach.

They nailed it so well that the company went bankrupt 10 months later.

Not really what I would call “nailed it”

Did you ever wonder where palm engineers got the idea for multi touch gestures, why the gestures were done in the space below the display, didn’t they call it a gesture area on the first palm pre.

The copied it from apples trackpad. Apple had multitouch gestures on the MacBook long Before the iPhone or the palm pre launched.

Swiping from the bottom up to show all open apps or clear the desktop, swiping from side to side to switch between apps or spaces. Even had that animation. In fact instead of cards which fit into a mobile display, apple had spaces on the Mac, matching the widescreen display of the MacBook.

Is it considered copying if you do it from yourself? No it’s not.

I don’t use any of google services and I closed my google account a while ago.

My iPhone actually runs better and has better battery life since I purged google from my iPhone.

There are plenty of people that have done the same.

Do me a favor and look at the Ad that MacRumors has on the top of the page, do you think that is there by chance?

I know android is fragmented...but just saying, most features such as this doesnt need the latest version of android which people such as yourself argue about android getting slow updates. Many of the updates are pushed through apps instead of through the OS like iOS. So new features in maps, duo, Google assistant, etc can be received on phones with older versions of android.

Yikes. Was just stating a fact, guys. No need to take it personally.

But what I'm hearing from you both is Apple didn't copy Palm because Palm went out of business? Like that somehow negates what they did and erases them from history?

Double yikes.

privacy is one of the great concern for android users..(some folks preferred apple for this). Google working on privacy is one welcome move..example 'Location sharing' on individual apps..well sought after feature(which apple has since ages though).
