Mainly because not everyone can afford a iPad per family member. Being able to use different email accounts, music libraries, application logins (facebook etc) is a nice feature.

Automatically having each kid log into their own Netflix profile would be a great use of Touch ID on an iPad, as another example.

I agree 100%. Why have a speaker(s) on the bottom or the back of a device?

Nobody knows apart from Ive, I guess.

Absolutely nonsense to have speakers on the bottom of a Media consumption device. Here in Apple Land we have huge bezels, which are practically just wasteland to look symmetrical and 'pretty' :(

I use my iPad a lot. I would love to have front facing speakers. Design wise, as others have pointed it out, it should be common sense.

I believe the performance test was done by Verge.

To the point, every Android phones that will come out from now on will try to beat 6/6+ spec by spec. It's nothing new anyway, they over-spec'ing their devices are only good for bragging on the paper. Apple always beat them in every level of actual use performances. I don't blame their hardware though - individually, and I think as OS, Android is good too. But they just lack of Apple synergy between software engineering and hardware engineering.

The Verge is an Apple fanboy website.

This phone has amazing stats: wireless charging, phone works on any carrier, turbo charging, beautiful design, small bezel, front facing speakers. The problem is the battery life on android phones are just not up to par with apple. Also, the phone is enormous.

The Snapdragon 805 is a 32-bit processor. Apple has nothing to worry about. The Nexus 6 is more a competitor to the Note 4. Remember that until now Apple hasn't even competed in the large phone market. People will buy the 6 Plus because they want a large phone but also like iOS. If Apple wants to produce a quad-core 64-bit chip they can. There really is no need for them right now because no one is really challenging them.

No one is challenging Apple? What a bizzare thing to say in a thread about the Nexus 6 and 9. (huh, huh heh heh, huh heh, you said "69").

Nexus 6 is about the same size as the 6+, so whatever.

But I agree about battery life. Android Lollipop may improve it but I wouldn't assume anything.

Why is the price a joke? The phone is comparable to a low-end iPhone 6.

Nexus line was famous for being a kick ass priced device for the specs. For example, nexus 4 and 5 competed with galaxy s3 and s4, but only costing $350 rather than $650.

For nexus fans , price is a shock. I guess google realized that they were getting beat in their own game with Chinese up and comers, such as one plus one

All true, but the phone is still not a joke. It has not lived up my my price point but that does not mean is can not represent better value for others.

Still using an iPhone 3GS here. I have no problem going to work and communicating with employers/contractors whatever. I can't believe you people. I was tempted to finally upgrade but decided it was not worth it.

All of this is a big hole in your paycheck.

then it better to fix the paycheck, so hole wouldn't be a big deal.

not considering there is technology out there now that can charge a battery in 2 minutes to 80% and last 10,000 charges

But is a there a smartphone on the market with the technology? Not to my knowledge, and certainly not Apple.

I bet if apple came out with a 6 hour battery life with 15 min charge you'd be a tad more excited.

While i jumped to Android after 7 years with Apple, few months ago. i've been using a Nexus 5 and was kind of looking forward to a not so expensive nexus device around the 4.95 screen size area. but this nexus 6 like has disappointed me.
Not every one like super giant phones. I thought Apple was wrong to ditch the 4 inchers, but Google has gone a step further by only offering a 6 inch device and nothing smaller. Plus i think Google is going the Apple way, set the $$$ high and people will run to it thinking its something really great.

ya they should have introduced a new 5" device but maybe they plan on just keeping the nexus 5 going a while longer. Spec wise it's still pretty solid in todays market at its price.

I hope lollipop is released for the Nexus 5 soon. I'm trying to decide if I want to jump back to the iPhone but want to try out lollipop first before making that move.

So why do competitors try to upstage Apple by releasing their wares a day before Apple? Upstaging Apple is impossible, and this ensures their announcement will be forgotten tomorrow. Why not wait until a month or more after the relevant Apple event once the hype has faded?

Because within a month? Everyone will own what Apple already announced. A month before makes more sense.

It's as big a footprint as the 6 Plus even thought the screen is bigger. It is slightly thicker though.

It is also a lot wider

Just looked at the actual dimensions

iPhone 6 plus
Dimensions 158.1 x 77.8 x 7.1 mm (6.22 x 3.06 x 0.28 in)

Nexus 6

Dimensions 159.3 x 83 x 10.1 mm (6.27 x 3.27 x 0.40 in)

So a negligible difference in height, nexus 6 is quite a bit wider and a lot thicker.

Note sure how you can you nexus 6 has the same footprint

its just my opinion ,

your welcome to pay the money for it , but it won't see the sales the 5 did , which i thought was a great price.

i think its a bad move on google to command a iPhone price , its not in there deck of cards.

they should be selling 400$ phones and sell a load of them.

It's why I won't have a Nexus 6. I'll go snag the iPhone I think at that price. If it were the $350 of the Nexus 5 I have, we'd be talking then.
