If Asus plans to compete with the dedicated consoles, they're destined to fail. I think if Apple came out with a dedicated console it would sell like hotcakes however.

I'm not sure about that - Apple's strengths aren't that important in a games console: aesthetics and fit & finish - doesn't matter that much when it's hidden away under the telly; user interface - it's just there to get you into a game, it's not a big deal. I think people buy consoles based on which one plays a) the best games, and b) plays cross platforms games the best, and c) is best value for money. That means the fastest hardware and the lowest price. Not Apple's speciality.

Anyway, back on topic: Those tablets sure are pretty, and FRONT FACING LANDSCAPE-STEREO SPEAKERS!! And yet in 6 hours I have no doubt Apple are going to introduce a tablet designed to send stereo sound directly into my left knee.

If there is no new Apple TV with App Store today, I'm getting Nexus Player this fall.

I want apps - I want Plex, Spotify and so on. And I want to choose these apps myself, not the US-centric junk apps Apple thinks I "need".

PS - I'd hate to lose AirPlay though... :/

The Nexus 6 sounds tempting. I'd take that over the Note 4 any day of the week. Pure Android >>> TouchWiz w/stylus. But Apple decided to make the phone I've been wanting for years. I'm now rocking a 6+ and I'm loving it. Don't get me wrong though. Android is gear in many ways (and not so great in a couple of ways). But I found the ecosystem lacking compared to iOS. Which leads me to the Nexus 9. Why on earth would I pay almost the price of an iPad for an Android tablet? Sure, nice specs, but the same could be said about the iPad and the iOS tablet experience is just so vastly superior compared to the Android experience. At the end of the day, it's the apps I use that makes the difference and iOS apps tend to be much more refined. I'd happily pay a little more for that. Oh well.

its obviously a monster spec-wise. but the size... i dont think this was a wise choice. the nexus 5 fits perfectly in my pockets and hands. but the iphone 6 plus is too large already. there is a small margin here. 6 inch is just too much.

the nexus 9 though...

and excellent integration of Google services, in particular Search and Google Now

Exactly - and that's the main reason why I switched back to iOS. Google has designed Android to be a data collection device, not a smartphone OS. You are Google's product. The device you're using is just a means to an end for google. Virtually every single Google services feature Android offers over iOS is only there to get more of your personal data.

The only thing I'm missing now after having switched back to iOS (after about 6 years with Android) is my LG G watch. It'll take ages until apple has a produce similar to Android wear and I doubt the first iteration of the Apple Watch will be even close in usefulness.

All I want are apps on my appleTV. Why is apple falling so far behind here? Plex would be great. An app that let me view my Mac content in a better way. So many things.

So many people want this, it'd kill the other set tops overnight if done properly, it defies logic.

Apple aren't dumb so there must be a REALLY good reason they've not done it yet - makes me think it's unlikely for the foreseeable future as a result.

Which Reese will then blow up, because you know a knee that plays music is just freeky annoyjng (Person of Interest reference for the uninitiaded)

Won't see the sales the 5 did? Of course it won't. Android now has multiple super phones at the moment. So you're correct in saying that it won't reach the sales of 1 Apple model. With iPhone 6/iOS your options are love it or leave it. On Android if you don't like Samsung you can jump over to Nexus. If you hate Touchwiz jump over to the Nexus. If you want a small flagship buy the Sony Z3 compact.

This is only thing making me think of switching - the Z3 compact. Apple may have lost me with ONLY big phones.

Google wouldn't be the company it is today if what you said were true. That's why they are running it and you are not.

Nothing Google makes lasts long. It's all beta junk. They don't make money because of their products. They've made it this long because they don't need products to make money. They just collect our data and sell it. Doesn't take much to make that happen.

Google, Microsoft, and Samsung you mean? How can you possibly say these companies aren't run by 'bright' people?

Only master business people could ever achieve high ranking positions in such organisations.

Are you saying you are smarter than the leaders of those companies?

I'm saying anyone with common sense is smarter than half of these people. They come up with a lot of really idiotic ideas.

not considering there is technology out there now that can charge a battery in 2 minutes to 80% and last 10,000 charges

Which will be available in a device when? How you can try to negate this as a great feature is mind boggling to me. Would you not want your current devices to charge up in 15 min for 6 more hours of usage?

Samsung may have rushed into creating a large display phone in a rush, but their apps didn't really benefit for the larger display. Most were just zoomed in to the larger resolution. On the other hand, Apple saw the demand for larger displays increased, and to not be stubborn and adapt to the new demand, they took measures startingwith iOS 7 for new and updated apps to benefit of a future larger display, which has now become a reality.
That's why now apps really take advantage to the larger displays by taking advantage of it, not by just simply doing a cheap zoom in.

And how long did Apple use the "2X" feature to compensate?

You would think they would release two nexus phones, one at 5 inch and one at 5.9. That is a very large handset and wont be suitable for everyone.

They look like lovely phones and Android 5 appears to be great. The only thing keep me from switching is applecare now.

Really? I'd rather get an iphone for that money but the nexus 6 is better than the iphone 6 in almost every way spec wise.

Specs mean nothing. They're just numbers. Performance is what matters. Apple's "lower" specs out perform any Android junk with higher specs.

So you're saying you'd rather buy something that runs slower just because it says 2.0 GHz than something that runs faster because it says 1.4 GHz? So when someone talks about how smooth their device is, you can just say, "Yeah? Well it isn't 2.0 GHz, sucker!"

The price is shocking b.c nexus phones were cheap the last 2 years. The first 3 nexus phones were actually in the $600 range. Google is really trying to brand the "nexus" name now. They are going to be selling these phones on contract at carrier stores. This phone will easily outsell the nexus 5 if google decides to market it.

There is no denying it is going to be one of, if not the best, android phone on the market. IMO, if the size is not too much for a person this may be the best phone this year. You either want an iphone or a nexus. The note 4 may lose a lot of sales to this phone, if marketed correctly.

THIS!!

I've been wondering why they don't add front facing speakers to phones as well....

Agreed. Although it improved with the iPad Air, my 2nd iPad was the most difficult to hear. 'Suppose this is once instance "thin" can improve functionality.

I couldn't justify stereo speak's for mobile phones. They're too small to deliver stereo sound, they blend together. It's a criticism MS slings at Apple with the horrible auto-tuned "Siri" voice that performs those "missing features" now in iOS 8 (and does "Cortana" really sound like a voiceover actress? 'Cause, no so much).

Samsung has a strong following and still packed a few more features than the Nexus.

Nice looking devices but a 6" phone is way too big for me. Plus the prices are a bit too high imo. The beauty of the Nexus devices was a balance of features and price, seems like they are abandoning that balance in favor of more premium devices.
