It is a tough sell on an Android tablet when I am using a Surface now at work. I really want a new Android tablet but my gut keeps telling me to go the Windows route.

The surface 3 is such a slick machine , i really like it.

I'm on the fence about selling my air for one.

The Nexus 6's battery can be recharged using Motorola's Turbo Charge technology, which provides up to six hours of battery life from a 15 minute charge.

As someone who's worked the last 7 years in the battery industy, I am very apprehensive of this. It's either not exact, it's gonna generate a lot of heat, or its gonna kill your battery in the long run. Or some combination of the aforementioned.

Edit: read up on it some, it seems the battery has to be nearly dead to take full advantage of it, and the fine print says it includes stand-by time in the 6-8 hours. I still question the long term effects on the battery though.

there is battery technology now that can charge a battery in 2 mins to 70% and last 10k cycles.

but there not apple products.

nexus 5 sold well at 400$ ....dont think doubling it is going to cause them to sell at the same rate.

foolish business move.

Surely not. But the Nexus 5 isn't going anywhere. I wouldn't be surprised to see them drop the price of the Nexus 5 even lower.

ah yes, they come in white gold and "black" or space black if you will.

Neither device is available in black. The 6 is midnight blue (or something like that) and the 9 is navy. The gold of course is inspired by Apple's trend, which I find funny considering how few (if any) gold iPhones I've noticed.

Maybe because a lot of people use BT speakers or headphones when listening to their tablets. The speakers on all these tablets are so tiny that even with stereo speakers on the front they're useless outside unless it's totally quiet (and having them blaring with others nearby is just rude).

lol you people are something else...

you've got an excuse for EVERY apple drawback don't you?

the htc boomsound speakers put any mobile device's speakers to shame... but of course they are useless until an apple product comes along with something similar...

"i want mono-speakers because stereo-speakers are rude". yeah...

Wow!: "a 493 ppi AMOLED Quad HD display"!!! Superman will be very pleased!

I wonder how many potential buyers are impressed by tech specs. It seems that's what Android products are always touting. To an average person, "quad-core Snapdragon" is meaningless. Show me how the device improves my life.

Competition is good for all consumers. So to Google I say keep bringing it hard to the hoop.

While i jumped to Android after 7 years with Apple, few months ago. i've been using a Nexus 5 and was kind of looking forward to a not so expensive nexus device around the 4.95 screen size area. but this nexus 6 like has disappointed me.
Not every one like super giant phones. I thought Apple was wrong to ditch the 4 inchers, but Google has gone a step further by only offering a 6 inch device and nothing smaller. Plus i think Google is going the Apple way, set the $$$ high and people will run to it thinking its something really great.

Nothing to say that Google will not go back and release new versions of the Nexus 4 or 5. There were two releases of the Nexus 7 tablet. It makes things as confusing as all hell, but other companies do it, just tag the year on.

Also, there are other Google Play edition devices out there that run pure android. This could be Google giving those partner devices a chance to shine.

And if you like the new features of the Nexus 6, you are pretty safe considering the new Moto X. Motorola really knows how to make a phone, and they keep the OS as close to stock as you can get. I have a first gen Moto X and it has been my favorite smartphone to date.

Agreed, this practically creates another category BETWEEN the phablet and the tablet...I guess that Google is adopting the "go big or go home" strategy now.

The Nexus 6 is 1.1mm taller and 5.1mm wider than the iPhone 6+. There is very little difference between the two sizes. It is just the Nexus 6 has a much bigger screen due to having smaller bezels.

And they aren't forcing bigger phones. They are still offering the Moto G GPE at 4.5 inches and the Nexus 5 at close to 5 inches.

AMOLED HD means nexus 6 has a pentile sub pixels screen? Why would I spend 650 on a pentile screen phone? :(

"We now present the newest Android phone!"

"Hello?"

"But but look at these specs; it's superior to the iPhone in every way!"

"...and it includes... voice control."

I wonder if this is why we can use "Hey Siri" on our phones and tablets only when they are charging. ATV is always plugged in, hence always "charging". So maybe the new ATV will have Siri integration. Would it be silly to add a microphone in ATV so that not only could you use Siri, BUT you can also take calls via "handoff" through your ATV?

On a side note, when you think the trend for phones will swing back to smaller sized phones 5" and less? Or do you think it's time for Apple to take the reins and just make the iPads phablets? If they do they will surely take the phablet crown.

Make an phone even bigger than the iPhone 6 Plus: CHECK

Name it with a 6: CHECK

64-bit "useless" processor: CHECK

Black, white and GOLD: CHECK

iPad Air sized tablet: CHECK

Apple TV looking device with a simple Apple TV style remote: CHECK

Does anyone remember the Google TV with the giant keyboard remote? And we all saw the even bigger Android phone coming. They have no advantage now so they're grasping for anything. Also: MOAR MEGAPIXELS because that is always what counts most in photography right? Though I'll say we should at least hold out to see the image quality first. And the quick charge battery is neat, but honestly the battery on my 6 Plus lasts so long I only need to charge it every other day. Isn't Apple teamed up with Tesla to develop some new battery technologies?

For as much as people say that Apple copied Android devices by releasing a bigger iPhone, Android makers sure do copy a lot more in return. What irritates me is that they try to copy style and functionality, while Apple copies dimensions. Software wise, pretty much everyone has copied parts of the jailbreak community.

its just my opinion ,

your welcome to pay the money for it , but it won't see the sales the 5 did , which i thought was a great price.

i think its a bad move on google to command a iPhone price , its not in there deck of cards.

they should be selling 400$ phones and sell a load of them.

They don't make enough profit that way. I think the plan was to sell at a loss for a little bit and slowly bring up the specs to be flagship level. They have a QHD res. screen, great processor, and quite possibly a worthy camera in there. That is flagship status, so it can sell for a flagship price. Whether people buy that over other already established flagship phones is the real question, and my guess is they wont.
