Love everything about the new app EXCEPT the lack of airplay support. It says I can enable mirroring but doing that does absolutely nothing except route the audio to my AppleTV. Ugh. It's actually a useful feature when sitting with people and wanting to share a video.

Just be careful Google has another app to steal your personal information! Least having the preloaded Youtube app Apple could be sure that Google wasn't receiving our info unwantedly.
Interface is similar to facebook, dolphin web browser, and many others. Facebook did not invent the left dark gray slidebar

I think Google has enough info about all of us thanks to gmail.com

No volume slider?

Is that a deal breaker? Can you not move your thumb 5mm and use the buttons?

Tin foil hat to table number one please!! Because when APPLE steals your personal information it's perfectly fine because it's Apple?

Just got this, tis VERY impressive. Certainly WAY better then the excuse of an app iOS had!
Thank you google for this. And as its an app it will no doubt be improve upon over the months too.

I couldnt find it either but I clicked on the link in this article and it took me right to it on my iPhone

http://youtube-global.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/introducing-new-youtube-app-for-your.html?m=1

Brilliant. Worked for me in UK. Couldn't find it otherwise. Thanks

Anyone else notice how you can't login with... a YouTube account? You can only use a Google account. I created a YouTube account long before Google gobbled them up, and I can't sign in using it. Hmm

Apple are neglecting the hell out of certain apps. Just makes no sense. On the iPhone:

Safari vs Chrome - Chrome is SO much better, already
Mail vs Gmail - Again, no comparison, it's Google's app FTW

Mail vs Gmail? You lost me here and I can only assume Safari is actually 1000X better than Chrome based on your comparison strategy ;)

I might check it out but i rarely use YouTube.

shocked to see so many on here seemingly give away their first born in thanks and praise. odd.

I did. I input the e-mail and password that go with my YT account, and voilá. Granted, my YT account e-mail isn't a Gmail address, so if yours is, that might be the problem, as it defaults to the Google account in that case.

Isn't Chrome just a skinned version of Safari? Using the same iOS Webkit?

Well, that's how a lot of people refer to it but I don't particularly like the term "skinned" in this case. It does use UIWebView so the rendering portion is very similar to Safari (you're very limited in what UIWebView behavior you can tweak, but you can make some very minor adjustments). But I'd argue the "chrome" (lower case) outside of the browser window is just as important as the rendering portion. There are hundreds of potential web browser features that have little to do with how the web page renders on screen.

With that said, Chrome has some nice features but I don't really see it blowing Safari away- Safari has better performance and in iOS 6 will get the web page sync across devices anyway. Though in iOS 6 third party browsers will be able to at least take advantage of the "smooth scrolling" that Safari features over 3rd party browsers now.

In what way are the Google apps better?
Safari vs Chrome, it's "SO much better", why?
Mail vs GMail - Mail wins if you don't have a GMail address.

Not saying Apples are better, I haven't tried Chrome and only rarely used GMail, just interested in why you think they are.

My primary email address is Gmail. I'd been using the Mail app for 3+ years. It basically hasn't changed much at all.

Then I switched to Sparrow and thought it was great. Then they got bought out!

Finally I just went with the Gmail app. I'd tried it before when it was rubbish, but recently I think it is significantly better. It replicated the web experience of Gmail very well, and push notifications are instant.

As for Chrome, I actually hate it on the web. But the recent iOS Chrome is superb, I was converted within 2 days of usage.

It just lets you do things quicker and with more finesse than Safari. It basically treats you like a grown up.

Apple's treatment of Safari is just bizarre. Never ever used it on my Mac, but since upgrading to Mountain Lion, they have finally made Safari much better now. But on iOS, it's still so limited and clunky.

Use Chrome on iPhone or iPad for a few days, and you'll see what I mean!

I'm tired and barely making sense :D

Just impressed with Google's treatment of their iOS apps. They could just think "Ahh who cares, we'll withdraw support and draw them to Android!"

But they actually really try to make the apps great within the limited parameters.

Anybody else not finding it though the iPhone's app store?
It's not just you. I know the app is in the Australian app store (I'll explain how to find it below) but I can't search for it in the normaly way in iTunes on a PC nor on the iPhone.

Using iTunes on a PC, if I go to Store->Search, select Apps, enter Youtube in the Title/Keywords and Google in the Developer Name, then it comes up.

But if I just type in Youtube in the Title/keywords, a whole lot of other apps are returned, but not YouTube, at least not in the first 180 or so results, even under See All, even though the text string enterred is the same.

On the iPhone, when I search for YouTube in the App Store, I get a whole lot of apps returned, but not YouTube, or at least not in the first 200+ results (I gave up after that).

P.S. I could find it in the UK store but not the German store (even after typing in YouTube and Google as abobve).

Whilst they may look nice, they fall majorly short of Google Maps when it comes to being up to date and having all the right info available.

Its not as if it wouldn't be expected though - Google has been doing it for years, Apple has been doing it for months.

Apple's maps are in beta, intended for testing by developers. Wait until they release the public version in the next week or two. Then make the comparison. I'd say their beta version is enough to make Google very nervous. The same mentality that causes people to buy Android phones when the phone store morons recommend them is what will make people not download Google Maps on their iPhones, thus costing Google millions.

Whats with the gimped airplay? Pressing the usual airplay button results in a message to enable mirroring. Lol, wrf, is this some kind of a joke?

What do non 4s users see?

Also what's with all the love for the m.youtube.com site? Can anyone get it to play fulls screen anymore??

The UI is awesome but this app has limitations. First off, there's ads on some of the videos and on iOS you can't block those like you can on Android. Second, you can no longer play audio from videos in the background, which is a major loss for me.
