And now, fanboys are going to say "oh thank Apple for this". That's ********, that's like saying thank God after a surgeon worked 10 hours on a loved one. You should thank Google, they made it and it was Apple who hindered the progress of the old Youtube app.

Hang on a minute.

I thought Apple fans hated Google with a passion, why is everyone wanting this on their phone and not accepting Apple's way?

Why would you be all putting a Google app on your phone if you despise them so much?

You thought wrong.

Can someone explain to me what "native" means when it applies to apps that arent preloaded.

I like a lot of things about it.

The navigation is much better. You can finally search by last uploaded! FINALLY! That’s been on my wishlist since iOS 1. Channels work properly. Fullscreen (although non-native) changing orientation works nicely. It has much more content.

But losing the advantages that Apple gives their own apps is a massive shame. We don’t get redirection from Safari any more. Double tapping no longer zooms the video. It’s a shame that you can’t continue to play while in another app.

I’m not too bothered about the ads. It’s an add funded service, it was never going to continue to be otherwise.

For example, the "native" playback controls are the ones that the video app uses.

These are available to third party apps for them to use, and would include double tapping to zoom and airplay support, but YouTube has decided to use a custom set of their own instead.

(HQ) feature

The only problem with this app is that you don't have an option to use HQ. Sometimes the HQ feature comes in handy, like when I cant use my home wifi. Other than that the app is cool.

Lame.

Ads before every video ensure that I won't use the app.

I agree that ads suck...but I have a channel and I do monitize. I see 40% of my views come from
a mobile device.......thus missing out on money. So for my own selfish reasons I hope all ads show on mobile devices :)

How do you comment or reply to a comment? The video quality seems downgraded to me as well

Yea that would be nice to click on a comment and have the reply box come up. And as I stated in one of my post just a moment ago. The high quality feature needs to be inputted in this app. We aren't always on wifi.

I hope apple will support that app just like it did the youtube app now, meaning:

Quit youtube while playing a song and then multitask swipe to left then turn on sound to play youtube video while working on other apps.

I was curious about this myself; I can confirm this is NOT supported. I'm guessing because the new YouTube app doesn't play videos using Apple's native media player. I'm sticking with the original / web app.

Google Maps has public transportation directions (I live in NYC), I don't believe Apple Maps does that.

Also, street view looks much more useful in everyday situations than flyover to find a location. Flyover looks pretty though.

I hope google will release a nice maps app similar to the YT one soon.

Apple are neglecting the hell out of certain apps. Just makes no sense. On the iPhone:

Safari vs Chrome - Chrome is SO much better, already
Mail vs Gmail - Again, no comparison, it's Google's app FTW
Old YouTube vs New YouTube - Worlds apart, looks of this decade

I know they are warring, but when consumers are casualities, it's too far.

Better than expected (can watch videos now which contain copyrighted music), although some stuff should be improved:
- it looks pretty ugly right now (gray in gray)
- no real fullscreen mode by double-tap, this can be a deal-breaker because many videos look worse now with borders on the left and right side or top and bottom, this is also one of the main problems with the Android app
- sometimes laggy, takes a few seconds to switch to the next page/video, compared to the native (Apple) Youtube app which switches instantly

I just downloaded it... and it's amazing! fast, sleek, and very polished.
I can't wait for google to release their own Maps App, just for the sake of everyone shutting up.

You sure Apple would allow it? Having a Google app competing with one of their core services... Apple have rejected such apps in the past. Wouldn't be surprised if they tried again.

Can someone explain to me what "native" means when it applies to apps that arent preloaded.

Native just means the apps that Apple ships with their OS. Example: Safari, Stocks, Compass etc.

Non-native or third party apps are the ones you find on the App Store.

In what way are the Google apps better?
Safari vs Chrome, it's "SO much better", why?
Mail vs GMail - Mail wins if you don't have a GMail address.

Not saying Apples are better, I haven't tried Chrome and only rarely used GMail, just interested in why you think they are.
