Google Mocks iPhone 15 and Late USB-C Adoption in Latest Ad

I never find these sorts of ads effective. Even when they're done fairly well, like the Mac vs PC ads, they still generally feel like fighting from a position of weakness—if you've got a good product, sell me on its own merits.

(And this one I don't think is done well. Who wants to hear 90s-era text-to-speech for an entire ad? I guess the point is supposed to be that the iOS one sounds worse, but a) iOS speech doesn't sound that bad, and b) they both are incredibly grating.)

they make these ads to own the tech press. The public doesn’t care, nor will they base a buying decision on a connector.

Now that I have stated the obvious, Have a nice day.

Admittingly, Apple is late to the game and only making the change because of the EU, but the ad isn’t funny. Maybe Google wasn’t going for comedy.

Samsung devices are full of bloatware, at least with Pixel devices you're pretty much getting Android and the Google apps / service integration.

Samsung promise five years of security updates for all handsets post 2020, but doubt you'll get feature updates beyond a couple of years, maybe longer for flagships.

Sony seem to have dropped the ball in the phone market, they're almost irrelevant. I really liked some of the handsets they've put out in the past, but I'll admit I've hardly looked at any of the recent ones.
Samsung promised 3 major OS upgrades and 2 years of security updates, but only on their midrange and high end phones, which I've heard is more than Google offers.

My mom has Samsung Galaxy A51 and it didn't seem to be full of bloatware. The worst Android phones I've used are the Motorola ones. Really disappointed, since I thought Motorola is great. I have no idea how they always screw up so bad.

Sony really disappointed me with the lack of updates. They seem to have nice phones, but the lack of software support is awful and I don't understand why this is the case. They supported PS3 for a long time.

Still, many people say that Samsung is the greatest choice. I'd be really eager to try Pixel someday though.

I’m actually giving serious thought to trying out the pixel 8pro this year on my second line just to try something new. I have a 4a and it’s a great little device.
Yeah I've decided I'll be switching to android if Apple doesn't come out with a foldable in the next two years.

Where Apple targets the high-end very broadly, and Samsung/Pixel/OnePlus seem to blanket all price points with a focus on mid-range devices... Sony seems to have consciously made the baffling decision to market exclusively to a very high-end, very niche market. I guess there's some value in having a loss leader, prestige product in your catalog, but a company so enormous and market-share focused like Sony? I really don't understand it. Apple gets a lot of flack for gold watches, or ultra expensive workstations.... but Sony sells a $3700 MP3 player. What the heck is that? Who is it for? Do they sell even a hundred of them a year?

The same nerds that obsess over USBC are the same people that made this ad and are appealing to an incredibly narrow audience. It’s more of an in joke than a general advertisement. Most consumers just don’t care.

There is nothing wrong with this ad at all. I buy Apple stuff routinely, so I am on "the side of the good" as many on here would probably see it. But why should Google not have this ad? It's moderately amusing and essentially it's true. If Apple had done such an ad against Pixel (and in the past they have had similar campaigns, before people jump in and say Apple would never do such a thing) most people on here would be saying how clever, creative and wonderful it is. I don't know what motivates people to think "their" company can do no wrong, and that the opposition is always terrible, but it's a pretty simplistic view of things.

When is somebody going to corner these marketing grads and shake them awake? Watch Apple's ads and then look at this one (and the endless Samsung ads) and honestly answer the question: which one seems confident and which one comes off like a defensive and cringy little brother? Obviously everybody's not an Apple Fan, and not everybody prefers Apple's products... but there's over a decade of now of Apple adverts that highlight the products and their design/philosophy. And on the flipside, dozens of Samsung and Google ads pointing out all the superfluous "check box" features that iPhone doesn't have, and in all likelihood will be dropped from the next Galaxy too. Remember back in 2014, when everybody was bumping playlists to strangers on the street? Well, neither do I but Samsung sure was selling that snake oil.

The irony is that even this marketing style is kinda sorta cribbed from Apple too, from the Mac Vs PC ads. Which I didn't find persuasive back in the day either, but hey at least they had Justin Long and John Hodgeman.

They’re still trying to recapture the same magic as the original Droid iDon’t commercial. It was a brilliant introduction to a larger audience (ignoring the couple on T Mobile)… but everyone knows what Android is now, and you’re right - they need to sell their product.

I had finally forgotten about them, but yeah, they were great ads. Back when everybody was waiting to see how Motorola was going to steamroll everybody and take back the mobile phone throne... an alternate future that we'll never see.

Applestans: apple actually waits until technology is mature they may not be first but theyre best 😌

Applestans: google and samsung never innovate they copy the iphone apple once again at the forefront of tech!
Both of these are true. If you think Google does not copy Apple you are as blind as they come. And if you knew anything about Apple you would know they want on certain features before adding them. Keep up.

After literally *everyone* I know (7 people in total) have had issues with their Pixels (I'm talking showstoppers, like bricked phones), I find I can bear iPhones not being on the cutting edge of technology with great fortitude. lol

So true. I think many consumers don't even know when the annual release date is. They listen to friends discussing which phone brand to use, and then rock up at a shop (possibly a dire mobile comms service provider) and ask the salesman/person to talk them through the models (price and feature) and make a decision, often based on appearance.

I only use android. Mostly Samsungs. I just got an a54 from sammie today. cost 300 I used the savings to get wait for a Mac mini m2 pro with 16gb and 1tb ssd. The savings I get by using mid their samsung phones rather than 3x the price iPhones allows me to keep getting Mac mini upgrades for free.

Spending 1399 for an iPhone max with 256gb and no sd cards. the screen = 6.7
or 283 for a Samsung A54 with 128gb storage and a 512 gb card. the screen = 6.4

I saved about 1000 bucks. and got my new Mac mini.

I have multiple friends with top of the line iPhones that don't work better than a mid grade samsung.

Mostly due to poor cell tower networks. So spending an extra 1000 for the high end apple is buying a rolls Royce to ride on poorly paved roads.

Here I am typing on a new Mac mini cost was 1249 with the 100 dollar gift card rebate.
and my samsung 283 plus 40 bucks for a 512gb samsung sdcard grand total 1572

and the apple fan boy has a iPhone pro for 1399
with no Mac mini.

It is an easy choice to make.

Competition is great!! And yeah, so true, finally getting USB-C.. should have been there at least 3 years ago!!! Apple gotta get with the times quicker.
I might be off on my timing but you could argue that lightning forced the development of USB-C (again, I might be off on the timing but that "seems" right that Lightning came first).

I mean, no lies detected. Fanboys will be triggered though
no lies true, but then there are lies of omission!
