Thanks for the suggestions, something to experiment with this weekend. Not to derail this thread further, but this happens across a 2019 Mac Pro, M1 MBA, and a beefy Ryzen 3950 PC since the day I got it. On the two macs I once tried using Image Viewer to grab photos like I normally would for an iPhone, and it would take over 10 minutes before it would show anything to select (iPhones would show instantly). It was also terrible trying to copy my mp3 library with the phone connection always dropping out after 10-20 minutes necessitating lots of small batch copies instead. This is with different cables but I didn't try a Thunderbolt version yet. Those big copies are mostly done now that the photos and music are on there so don't think it's worth getting P10, but if there is something wrong I still have a few more months under warranty.
Seems like there could be something wrong with the USB port on your phone or some other hardware issue.

With a Pixel if I am having some random hardware issue I will use the Pixel restore tool. I will back up my Pixel. Wipe it a couple times. Then use the tool to restore or install latest Pixel UI version. The tool should format the drive automatically if I remember correctly.

It is better than a reset because it wipes the internal storage and reinstalls the latest Android version. If there was some software corruption or update corruption that caused your issue now you can test to see if it persists. If after reinstalling the OS using the Pixel restore tool you still have the same problem then you 100% that it is a hardware issue to be repaired under warranty. Don't wait until the warranty expires. Get it fixed now!

Google has a long history of defective hardware. A small Google search since the Pixel 6 Pro on has shown consistent hardware failures on multiple gens. I have had a 7 and 8 pro and I loved them but I had hardware issues on both phones that Google resolved under warranty.

So I would take the time to figure out what is going on because if you still have this issue after warranty it is on you. If it is just a bad USB port it shouldn't cost too much to fix?? If it is something more then it could get costly fast.

Best of luck either way!!

Less than 24 hours, who's going to be watching the Google event? I'll be watching here in the UK (6pm I believe)

Happens right in the middle of a work event for me, but I will catch a rewatch that evening.

Main things I still want to know:
  • What’s new on the software/AI front?
  • Does it ship with QPR1?
  • Does it do 90/10 split screen?
  • What are the preorder incentives?
  • SIM card in the US?

Of course, none of the answers to those questions will probably stop me from buying one. ;)

I'll probably watch. If the Pixel 10 Pro Fold has Qi2 with magnets, I'm probably getting one, even if I have to wait until October.

I hope they don't go the ESim way, it's so much easier just swapping out physical SIM

I hope there are more multitasking options on the fold.

Google is in NO position to go all in on eSIM in the US. Apple can can get away with it because of their brand. Google is trying to gain marketshare. That's not how you go about it. I'm not sure what I will do because their is a convenience in pSIM's.

Hopefully just rumors for now but I'm sure eventually it will be the way. Carriers such as Verizon have made it easier to swing phone to phone on eSIM but from my testing old way is best for us multi phone people

I maybe lured into the P10 if I can snag it at a discount, plus trade in. I signed up with a different email address in hopes Google will send me a Pixel 10 discount code. My favorite color in this world is blue and I would love to snag the P10 indigo phone on the cheap.

I'll be watching since I'm off work for a few days. Not sure if I'll be buying, depends how much trade in I'll get for my S24 Ultra here in the UK. Also depends if I like what they announce.

It wouldn’t affect them in the slightest. The serial switchers like those found here in this forum are an infinitesimal portion of smart phone users. Most consumers don’t even switch their phone yearly..most go 2-3 years minimum. Having to activate with an eSim will at most be a minor inconvenience.

Because of Apple’s push for eSim adoption, it’s available at the vast majority of carriers worldwide and everywhere in the US. If Google uses sim switching in the same fashion that Apple does, it’ll offer to even move your number from a physical sim in the old device to the eSim in your Pixel. Saving eSim profiles onboard means you don’t have to carrier around mulitple physical sims if you travel frequently. It’s also much easier to purchase and activate remotely or ahead of travel.

This. Are eSims perfect and the ideal use case in all situations? No but for the vast majority of people it won’t affect them in the slightest and the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.

Honestly don't think the average consumer with only one device will care one bit. Most of the time this is only an issue with us enthusiasts who have multiple devices or switch on the regular and we are a very, very small percentage of the smartphone market.

This might be my first time in YEARS I'm not interested in "upgrading" my phone.

I've had every XL or Pro Pixel since the beginning. But the recent leaks showing only a 15% performance improvement, and really no better battery life than the Pixel 9 Pro XL is pretty disappointing.

Plus it's the same exact design and shape and size as last year.

Seems pretty pointless to upgrade unless they offer super trade-in deals costing me like nothing. Otherwise, hard pass.

Yes for most with the latest version no reason to update unless you're getting good trade-in deals. Really makes no sense for Google to change the design they have a winner with the latest in my opinion. Performance wise will really find out I can't really go by what the early leak say and as we all know it's more to a pixel than them benchmarks.

I really like the moonstone colour, and if I can get a hefy trade in discount, and a free watch 4 then I will upgrade, otherwise just a watch 4 for me

"colors" of smartphones are kinda pointless for me, as I pop a case on them immediately, and never see the back again LOL

Will be interested to see if Best Buy does the same thing this year with offering $1000 for trade in of S25+ toward Pixel 10XL. I could buy a cheap S25+ for $550ish on Swappa, get the $1000 trade in plus potential BB gift card promo, and spend $700 or so for a P10XL. If the BB promo includes a $200 e-gift card it could be a decent deal.

At the moment the cheapest S25+ is $407 carrier locked, no idea if that matters. But I'd likely do it if the promo is offered.

Google seem to have announced the Pixel Watch 4 a little early, at least over on their Facebook page.
