Will be interested to see if Best Buy does the same thing this year with offering $1000 for trade in of S25+ toward Pixel 10XL. I could buy a cheap S25+ for $550ish on Swappa, get the $1000 trade in plus potential BB gift card promo, and spend $700 or so for a P10XL. If the BB promo includes a $200 e-gift card it could be a decent deal.

At the moment the cheapest S25+ is $407 carrier locked, no idea if that matters. But I'd likely do it if the promo is offered.
Spoken like a true member here in this area haha

The phones are up on Best Buy's site as well for pre-order. There's a $200 e-gift card promo for the 10 Pro XL and $350 for the Fold but nothing appears yet with trade-in options.

The offers this year are actually good, Google are offering me £502 for my S24 Ultra! That's more than Samsung did towards their S25 Ultra. On top of that there's a £100 store credit for buying the Pro AND 1 year of Google AI Pro, PLUS £75 off the price of the Pixel Buds Pro 2, which they have added the new Moonstone colour. I'm impressed with Pre-order bonuses this year in the UK.

It wouldn’t affect them in the slightest. The serial switchers like those found here in this forum are an infinitesimal portion of smart phone users. Most consumers don’t even switch their phone yearly..most go 2-3 years minimum. Having to activate with an eSim will at most be a minor inconvenience.

Because of Apple’s push for eSim adoption, it’s available at the vast majority of carriers worldwide and everywhere in the US. If Google uses sim switching in the same fashion that Apple does, it’ll offer to even move your number from a physical sim in the old device to the eSim in your Pixel. Saving eSim profiles onboard means you don’t have to carrier around mulitple physical sims if you travel frequently. It’s also much easier to purchase and activate remotely or ahead of travel.

This. Are eSims perfect and the ideal use case in all situations? No but for the vast majority of people it won’t affect them in the slightest and the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.
I have NO problem with what you said. It's just that we are not their yet. My view is, if Google is all in on eSIM then make sure everything is in place with the carriers and it is easier/faster than dealing with pSIM's. We are not there yet.

I went ahead and ordered the Moonstone XL. Now to try and justify it to myself 🥳, I got $500 for my 8Pro trade in. I'll get $200 back in store credit (which i'll use for the Moonstone Pixel Buds Pro 2 later) and I used my $298 in store credit.

I give Google some credit for trying a presentation format different from the typical staged event with company execs mostly out of their element. The talk show format is a little hokey but makes sense for Google to try something different that appeals to the regular consumer, not just nerds.
