I'm no Apple hater, but I am mildly concerned that either the best is behind us. Maybe going forward, we'll get something revolutionary, but a watch, a top box set, and and a 5 inch phone aren't revolutionary. So long as OS X is in tact (Even if Apple tries to make OS X iOS, the backlash would be too great), I will buy Macs because they are clearly better computers. The iPad is still the best tablet out, as well. I want to be wrong on the iPhone, I really do, but there hasn't been a revolutionary iPhone since 2010.

I understand and I didn't say you are. Just saying in general that's what happen every year! People keep saying "well, it's the same phone, just faster, better camera, etc" "Same phone just different design" and so on and on. That's because people expect revolutionary stuff every year.

Will Apple be copying other competitors when/if it releases a larger size iPhone?

No. Phones have had various screen sizes ever since they started using screens
Do you think different TV manufacturers are copying each other just because they all have similar screen sizes.

Did Apple copy other competitors when it released a smaller sized iPad?

Again No Apple has used various screen sizes for its products iPhone,iPad,Ipod Touch so has been using different screen sizes for a long time. If Apple use a larger screen size in the next iPhone then its purely Apple releasing a product with a larger screen.

Will Apple be copying other competitors when/if it releases a watch?

Watches have evolved from clockwork to basic digital to the now so called smart watch nobody is copying anyone there.

Don't worry Apple will sue anyone with a watch that has hands or digital numbers because it will look too much like the watch that they have released.

They sold 3 millions iPad third version in under 4 days , so yeah.... they clearly rushed out with that product. I think you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, sorry.

You would be right if you said that about iOS 7.

Were not talking about sales figures though. We discussing the fact that Apple discontinued a new product in less then 9 months - To me that screams of them rushing it out.

Quite clearly, you have no idea what your talking about so are moving the goal posts.

And as for ATV -- Apple has a product. I doubt a few more months is going to make consumers go elsewhere so they can use apps on TV.

The issues with TV right now revolve around content. I doubt many people are coming home at night cursing the UI on their TV screen. For me personally I use DirecTV and have no issues managing recordings or finding things to watch. I basically use my ATV for AirPlay and the HBO Go & Watch ESPN apps. Of course ESPN doesn't have an agreement with DirecTV so I have to use a friends ID and password to make it think I'm a Comcast customer. Thats the problem with TV and I don't see any of these STBs solving that problem. At the end of the day I think people will chose a box based on whatever ecosystem they're most tied into. But if Apple allows ATV to lag another year then I can see ATV users migrating to something else that is more up to date.

Usual response! Wasnt expecting anything less!

Basically its only copying when when other companies do it.

Can't these Tech Giants come up with an "ORIGINAL THOUGHT" of their own without "borrowing" someone elses? When and if they do come up with their own idea, make sure it knocks our socks off..not just a "some what copy" of another company with the same functions, but with newer, better, easier to install and use...In my opinion these ideas would out shine any other "like" competitors product.

Apple TV was late to the game. DVico and Syabas are the real innovators

Why have all the tech companies all the sudden started this TV Box thing? Why can't this box be integrated in the TV unit itself?

Erm? They are already integrated? Never seen a modern smart TV? Netflix apps, Lovefilm Apps, music streaming apps, on LG you get Sky's Now TV app, and I think on Samsung you can get Blinkbox. You need to look around more mate because outside of Apple is a whole other world.

More vapourware from Google. You know that wearables fantasy made the nightly news?

Vapourware? You mean the Motorola smart watch that has a launch date of this summer, has been demoed, has a website even:

https://moto360.motorola.com/

Christ if that's your idea of vapourware then the Apple Television and iWatch must have never ever existed in any 'rumours' site! Because these are the perfect example of 'Vapourware', NOT the Motorola smartwatch.

Sir....how would you describe a rushed out product? In my opinion it is a poorly made on a RUSH product, racing to be the first, that then receives a bad costumer satisfaction and it does not meet the expectation (reflecting on a poor sales) Clearly that's what Samsung did while rushing to be the first with their gear thingy. And that rush was clearly reflected on it's success and how badly it did, and there is no way you or Samy can change that because that's the way it is! When you make a product in a rush to beat the competition you end up with a bad product that people do not like it. And when you take all the time needed and do your homework you will end up with a great result (Good example is Apple with their hardware) Even though third version iPad was short lived, that's not because it was rushed out product! And the forth generation was nothing short of an iPad three except for the lightning connector that was introduced on the iPhone 5 and perhaps slightly faster.

Is it really mate? Thanks but am fully aware of what smart TV can do.....
Then what is the reason for TV Boxes then mate, since that was my initial question?

I agree with you in principle, however the iPhone is the exception. The iPhone actually did change everything.

Yes, but that is different than being the first. It is the phone all other current phones are now modeled after that is true. But it was not the first smartphone. The PalmPhone probably gets that honor. It had apps and internet capability.

As I said in a previous post, look at the updated reviews for the Galaxy Gear since it had a software update. Its getting good reviews from review sites and customers alike.

I honestly cant believe you cant see this! Apple release a product, and then within less then 9 months discontinue it because they have an updated version. It was either rushed or Apple were treating customers of the iPad 3 as mugs.

What about using Airplay on the iPad 3?

WHat about Antenna gate and Scuff gate?

Market, just another market, why has Amazon entered it when it already offers streaming with prime and Lovefilm? Although you can't get the new TV box in the UK.

They all believe their is a market for them, no other reason, just think of how many devices offer all the same services now, loads and loads.

What we really need is a way to watch what we already do on TV like Sky, but on a streaming service, again Sky has come the closest to that, you can pay monthly for a streaming only service for all of the Sky channels:

http://help.sky.com/tv/sky-tv-on-other-devices/watch-sky-online-without-a-subscription

It's not cheap but then again it has no competition and offers a lot of content like Sky sports and Sky movies.

A service where I can stream BBC or Dave or Watch etc etc live but for a decent price, that's what we need.

They treated iPad 3 owners as mugs, because the iPad 4 was not a rushed product, how could it be when all they did was stick a slightly better CPU and a lightning connector in it, it was just another famous Apple incremental update.

The iPad Air was a real different update.

You're right. This thread is the usual FanBoyFest that an article about a competitor's product usually spawns at MacRumors or Apple Insider. Such is the world of fans whether they be football, computer or automobile fans.

So far none of these products are vaporware. An "Apple Television" and an "iWatch" cannot be vaporware by definition as Apple has not announced anything.

And of course I agree on the Motorola smartwatch not being vaporware - so far - as the release date hasn't passed yet.

Either way, it'll be interesting to see how the TV set top box market will work out. I never believed in an actual "Apple Television" as I prefer the route of dumbing down the screen to a monitor functionality and have a small versatile set top box take over all of the content channeling etc. . TVs are not worth the trouble, there are so many factors like size, design, functionality that demand a broad product variety which is the opposite of what Apple likes to do.

copycats samesong, microsoft, google, amazon, etc.

all copying apple then trying to get to market first with the next big thing. scrambling to be the next apple. sit back boys and wait for apple to issue you your marching orders. rev up your copy machines. you don't know whats next till apple tells you so quit embarrassing yourselves.

And why do you doubt that or are ironic about it? Apple can put the best screen and world beating hardware on that small 4" form factor. The competition can't. Also the Android UI is the same used on 2.5" screens and 10" screens.

Apple will make software and apps especially for it. It will go berserk on hardware. more room for a better camera.

Yes, revolutionary.

You're talking about 2010, right? Apple doesn't have the best displays anymore.... or let's say the other flagships are at least on par or better.

And what you're saying about the UI has to be a joke. iOS lacks proper tablet interface. In fact, Apple and Android nearly suffer contrary problems: While android delivers a very good UI for tablets and phones it's still second place in the app department. iOS for tablets looks outdated, I'm really surprised Apple didn't come up with a nice new tablet UI with iOS 7... IMHO it's even worse than before 7.

Humm android boxes already exist and work

Couple of months ago I got two android pens/boxes, connected them to my TVs, have full access to PlayStore, USB ports, HDMI ports, Micro SD, 6 GB internal with 2 RAM, play any type of file/content and (mostly) do everything one would need!

Unfortunately my Apple TV sits idle .

android users to start claiming xbox copied their android-tv interface in 3....2....1 :D

165 quotes in this thread before you offer the above. If it didn't happen in the first 160+ quotes, why would you think it would all of a sudden happen after your invitation? I'm just going to assume you were making a joke. Otherwise, this comment looks pretty silly.

I shall close my eyes, and by the time I open them again, Google will have scrapped this project.

So if the 4th gen was just a no big deal incremental update how were us 3rd gen owners treated as mugs?
