Why do people act like it's a crime for companies to copy something that is not IP protected? Apple wasn't the first to go with screen gestures as the main OS control mechanism. I believe the Blackberry Z10 offered on screen gestures for their navigation.

But with google you can change it. You can go with notch, no notch, ... Your way.
Android is always more customizable, that's one of its core advantages IMO.
There would be an option to "hide the notch" on some phones by making the background of the notification bar black, so it stays symmetric with the bottom bezel. I prefer the notch when the display has no bottom bezel (like iPhone X) though. Without the bottom bezel (usually referred to as "chin"), "hiding the notch" in this way actually makes the device look worse.
The notch is a temporary design compromise though, just like the antenna bands on the iPhone 6-era metal phones. Eventually it will disappear anyway.

The iOS app switcher is aweful, yet Google decided to copy it. Shouldn't surprise me given companies copy other horrible, non-justifiable ideas such as removing the headphone jack, using a notch, etc.

I simply call tings by their name.

Now that right there more debatable than anything.
Simpler logic like having to exit the camera apps to change a setting or having to dig deep into the settings to find the automatic brightness or not being apple to turn off Bluetooth from the control center etc.?

I don't know about which time you are speaking but I don't remember having such a problems for many years. It's simply not a problem and we are talking about Android P here not Android D.

jailbreak? really? that's funny.
Then Android had gesture based navigation(and way more) for many many years with Root.

First I clearly didn't use the word fanboys but if that's how you feel, I won't contradict you.
Second I call people incorrect when their biased statement is clearly incorrect. You didn't say "in my opinion" you simply stated: "...it’s exactly where Apple leads the way" so it's not about what you prefer, It's about what you think and how you say it.

I'm not gonna waste my time with you as this is getting ridiculous. You prefer android while other people prefer iOS, that's all. It's impossible to find a clear winner when it comes to subjective things.

Have fun with your device and maybe we should spend less time in arguing "which is better and who gets there first", after all it's a phone, and there's more important things in life. Just like what Google said today, we should care more about our "digital wellbeing" and spend less time on this kind of stuff. ;)

Great. Another thing to note when having a debate with an android fanboy about who copies who.
Competition is good. All that is required is to be open minded. Only fools and fanatics argue over which platform is best. I use iOS and Android on my mobile devices and at home I use macOS, Windows and Linux.
Each platform has its advantages and disadvantages but at least we have the choice because there is healthy competition.
As for copying as if Apple have never stolen anything from Samsung.

Exactly! Some people just can't stop wasting time on "who gets there first". I shouldn't have replied to a post here of someone who has the opinion that "Android is always better", which dragged me into an annoying discussion. :(

“Simplicity, Intelligence, and Digital Wellbeing.”

At the cost of your privacy. No, thanks.

I see, so you must be upset now.

Now that's funny when you are the one the stated to argue(most likely bothered by the facts I've stated) and tried to impose which is better.

In terms of “Copying”, I don’t think Android copies Apple or vice versa, I think they are both vastly different in their own ways in terms of software. That gives the consumer an option of what they want in different platforms. Its usually hardware that others blame Samsung copying Apple for.

Given that a lot of the talk I've seen over the Android way is dissatisfaction with how Apple has removed hardware and on-screen navigation buttons, I don't think this is giving anyone more options. Those people are going to be annoyed that Google has agreed with Apple's ideas for gesture-based navigation, or it's a fanboy-style "I hate it until my side does it" situation.

I wonder how well the app actions would be effective .... Predicting words is one thing,

I found the Google I/O Presentation very interesting. IMHO Ai is starting to take off. Lots of interesting developments. Apple had better sort Siri, speech recognition/dictation and other AI features out quickly!

Adaptive Battery sounds pretty cool.

I wonder how much battery ends up being wasted on the dozens of apps I have installed on my iPhone that I only launch once a month, just to serve me notifications or maintain some state in the background.

People do close background apps right? I get the feeling this Adaptive battery would be more like Mac users where Apple controls how much battery is used based on what is running and in the foreground, video gets frozen is not in focus etc.. as happens in Safari

A moot point when Google didn't remove anything in the first place.

Also there are hardly any Android users who consider that the gesture based navigation is Apple's idea.

Very generous use of the word vastly there.

Let get this **** straight guy Aka Apple fan boys.

Apple copy WebOS, the man himself Mathias Duarte who works for Google Android design Team was on the Palm WebOS design team back in 2008-2010. He's the real architect of he swipe up gesture you see on the iPhone and Adroid P. He currently still works for Google android design team your seeing his influence.

No. Still Android copies iOS.

You mean how iPhone didn't have copy & paste for several years??? lmao Apple should have been sued just so no iPhone user can still have it. All's fair in yelling "I did it first!" Technically, iPhone X copies Android phones by not having a physical home button. Personally, my first was a Motorola Play X. Still have it, though I cracked the screen.

I had the BB Z10 for 3 years, running the BB OS 10: Apple copied most of the screen gestures (the BB OS 10 was better!)

Clearly he was not smart enough to realize he should have stuck with it, and needed Apple to show him that his idea was actually good!

Once again, Apple may not invent a thing, but they know clearly what are the best choices to make out of everything available, and more importantly, they stick with them with the strong conviction that they are making the best choices at that moment, and their confidence and backing up makes whatever solution work. And the rest of the industry just follows....
