I can just see the people walking through a mall staring at their iPad, bumping into people, maybe a sunglasses cart.

Eh, I was in a mall just the other day and wished Google Maps would've had a map of the inside so I could find a particular store. I wouldn't stare at the map to get there, I just need to know which mall anchor it is near so I can head in the right direction. There are never enough of those mall maps around, probably because it is better for them for you to wander around.

All i know is that google = sell your information to advertisers. how else do they make money.

Apple = didn’t want to sell your info, therefore they said NO to google maps on the iphone. Apple makes money from you buying the iphone.

Adding new features when you're ahead of everyone else isn't playing catch up.

Adding features your competitors already had when you're behind is, which is what Google is doing. Thank you for pointing out what Google is not doing and in a round about way getting at my same exact point: Google is playing catch up.

They don't sell your data to anybody. They use the data to display you targeted ads and charge advertisers for providing that level of segmentation.

They aren't "selling your data" any more than a census is.

Apple cannot and will not EVER catch up to Google Maps. They were insane to start a war with Google.

You're right, Apple's already ahead of Google maps, and so they will never have to catch up.

Google's still shipping tile based raster maps from the 1990s. Apple's got vector maps and that alone puts them way ahead.

But you're wrong to claim that Apple started a war with google. It was google who started the war-- they ripped off the iPhone and they sued Apple for patent infringement (before Apple sued anybody.)

Of course google fanboys always want to forget it, but Motorola sued Apple first... and for standards essential patents.

I can't understand the mentality that worships a company that abuses them the way google does with people's privacy. It's seems like battered spouse syndrome-- no matter how much crap you're forced to take, you have to rationalize it by claiming that it isn't crap and that they are somehow, magically, superior.

Of course, google fanboys know this is wrong, so they run all over the internet screaming google's superiority at the top of their lungs.

Shakespeare had a relevant quote: "Methinks the lady doth protest too much."

Yeah, and what features would those be? As of right now, there's absolutely nothing Apple offers that wasn't already in Google Maps in some shape, form, or fashion.

Like it or not, Google is far, far, FAR ahead of the competition when it comes to maps.

LMFAO: Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle YEAH!

Do you think by saying that you'll make it true? Do you think everyone else doesn't know anything about the situation so they'll believe you? Or do you simply not know enough about the situation that you actually believe this?

Apple's maps are vectors, and far superior to google maps. You can infinitely zoom in and out and they have 3D all over the world where google only has it in a few cities.

But the main thing-- Apple maps are vector. Google maps are raster tiles. Google's maps are built in technology that was state of the art in the 1990s.

And you actually say Apple has nothing google doesn't? In public? Mind Boggles.

Google said they are sending out the first set of invites tomorrow morning. So don't expect to see it today.:)

Can't.... leave..... email......

Unless the internet is lying to me, Google announced vector graphics in Google Maps 5 on December 7, 2010

Edit: Oh, and...

Here's the list of 3D supported cities for iOS...

...and the Google Maps list.

I'd say Google has the slight lead here.

Methinks the lady doth protest too much!

Methinks thou art woefully unaware.

Absolutely no idea what your completely useless post is trying to say. Thanks for contributing.

You're admitting that they sell people's personal information by trying to wiggle out of the fact that they sell people's personal information.

Not that your post, which was just apologizing for google's violations of people's privacy, was at all useful. So, when you say "Thanks for contributing" after saying my post was "completely useless" you only serve to illuminate that you've brought absolutely nothing intelligent to the table, just apologia from a fanboy.

So, you want to have a discussion? You're free to start.

Hope this helps!

PS-- Sad thing is, the response I'm replying to was profoundly useless, and here I am explaining (because I like pointing out in painful detail how nonsensical my opponents are)... but I don't expect anything other than another thinly veiled personal attack from you.

yo mac rumours, i'm not interested in google. They are crooks don't pay correct amounts of tax and steal everyones ideas.

Google are a search engine and advertising company this is an apple website.

knock this **** on the head please!

Never had an issue with Apple Maps...

Does that then mean there is no problem with it? No.

No mapping service is perfect, however based on public reviews, Googles are a fair bit more accurate. You'd be crazy not to expect that though. They have had a massive headstart, and have a hell of a lot more resources than Apple.

To name but a few:

- They own a fleet of UAV's that can detect roadways, as well as take birds eye photos.
- The fleet of 250 Street view cars in the US alone (unknown how many across the rest of the world, but likely comes close to 1000 in total)
- Several years headstart
- Their own license with GeoSat, giving them control over one of their satellites for imagary.

In comparison, as far as we can tell Apple have:

- A smaller team
- No international teams
- All major data from TomTom.
- No access to their own satellite mapping, resulting in very dated imagery (to give you an idea, my town's photos are at least 8 years out of date).

I can completely accept that in some cases Apple maps perform as they should - and thats great, they serve their purpose and work for you. However as I said, Google's are 'better' when it comes to global coverage. Apple Maps in the UK are horribly inaccurate in many places, showing businesses that have been defunct for nearly 20 years, towns in wrong locations, etc. It wouldn't be so much of a problem if Apple actually fixed it when reported, but they dont - things I reported the week Maps came out still have not been fixed. In comparison whenever I've reported issus on Bing or Google Maps, they are fixed within a couple of days.

I get that we have these two divided groups of 'Apple Fanboys' and 'Google Fanboys'. But from a non-childish perspective, it cant be denied that as a whole, Google Maps is significantly more advanced and accurate than Apple Maps.

The maps-war between Google and Apple doesn't even exist. Google maps is not only more feature rich, it's although available on all platforms. Apple maps is not a real competition for them, except on iOS.

But their biggest weapon is the sheer amount of data that backs Google maps. Having all this context information in the back they can produce any service that they like, while Apple is limited to data that is available for purchase from some 3rd party vendor (and no one of them comes even close to Google's datastore). Even if Apple catches up feature-wise they can't compensate for the data.

This competition is none that Apple can win.

lmao in what universe?

just look in your settings menu and their pathetic way of trying to trick you into switching the ad tracking toggle the wrong way

You're on the internet, right? Good luck with that. If Google isn't doing it, Apple is. If Apple isn't doing it. Facebook is. If Facebook isn't doing it, someone else is.

Apple's privacy policy is clear, and they don't violate it the ways that Google and Facebook do.

If someone came to you and said they were robbed, would you really reply "well, you live in a city, if that guy didnt' do it, one of the other 1,000 muggers would have."

As if that somehow makes it OK? Fer serious??

lmao in what universe?

This universe. That's what Apple went and made their own maps.

i dont even own a google device lol i just find it redic to claim one company isnt using your info to make their products better while at the same time using it to make money. its the world we live in and id much rather have google use my anonym data to provide me with useful tools than some government claiming they collect every piss you take playing the "its a matter of national security" card

Not apologizing for anything. There's a big difference in providing information in aggregate for segmentation and targeting purposes vs. serving up John Smith's specific personal information.

Nice update on Google's part, but it's not enough to sway me from Apple maps. I'm making a conscious effort to not feed data farming companies my personal information.

The only problem I have with Apple Maps is the yelp integration. Please, just make the maps comprehensive on their own. It shouldn't be reliant on a separate app.

I take it you are aware that at any time Apple can:

- Track your location
- View your browsing history
- View your documents
- View your Mac's (approx.) location
- Send and receive Audio from your devices
- Obviously read iMessages
- View your photos
- etc

They also (very obviously) track what your interests are based on apps, music and videos you download, and such.

Tell me, how is this different from what Google can do?

(Note: For reference I am not a 'fanboy' of any brand - I use products that do what I need, and hold no loyal 'ties' to Apple or Google just for the sake of it)
