Yeah, "unlimited" in that you can use it as much as you like, but once you have downloaded 2 e-mails, you start getting charged...

Yes this will work with the family plan. You will need the primary users SSN (the last 4 anyways) and billing zip code. If your in the Atlanta area I will rent you my iPhone 2g to use for this. $50. HAHA!

Joe, any possibility you could let me borrow it for a second? I am located in ATL (Cumming, GA) but commute downtown...

Awesome. But where did you get your 2g from? Does your MMS still work?

Also, did you use a blank microsim or the one from your iPhone 4?

I too can't seem to send MMS messages now after doing. Is this a temporarily problem just until AT&T automatically switches you to unlimited 3G after your billing cycle?

it may be i got the email pretty quickly so i couldn't tell right away.

Alright, so I decided to return my iPhone 4 because I was having problems with reception, the battery was getting warmer than usual and the camera had the worse LED flash ever. Anyways, returning it wasn't a hassle and I got a free sim to activate my now iPhone 2G.

However, I did the activation, I got the $20 unlimited data and 200 Text Plan. Then, out of no where, AT&T sends me a text telling me that I don't have the required data plan and that they'll automatically add it for me. Great, but I already did that upon activation. I checked the features online, and guess what? I have the $30 Unlimited Data plan, BUT, I'm on my iPhone 2G. Is this normal? Can I even use this plan with the 2G since it doesn't use the 3G network?

Yes you can use the $30 data plan on a 2G iPhone. I would call AT&T and have them change the plan back to the $20 one.

Well, if I can use it, I rather lock on to it to make sure I have it when I upgrade later on if Apple ever fixes the Reception Issue with the iPhone 4.

I just wanted to make sure that I can use the 3G Unlimited Data plan with the iPhone 2G. I don't want AT&T charging me later on with all this data for an unreasonable price and then telling me that it was because I was using the wrong Data Plan.

You can just keep the data plan and keep using it on a 2G phone. Later you can use it on an iPhone 4 or 3GS or whatever.

I have a Blackberry and I'm getting ready to switch to the iphone 4. I never got internet on my Blackberry because it wasn't required when I signed up and I couldn't justify paying $30 for internet I was barely going to use. I took my SIM from my Blackberry and couldn't get the iphone 2g to activate. I called ATT and the ATT guy couldn't get it activated after half an hour of trying. He told me to go to an ATT store and get a new SIM and that he's put it in the computer for me to get one for free.

After putting in a new SIM, activating the iphone 2g took less than 10 minutes.
Thank you, everyone. I'm going to have unlimited internet on my iphone 4 when I get it!

Thank you, SpaceKitty.

Glad you got it. Another fine example of why I recommend getting a brand new sim card instead of using the already activated one in the iPhone 4.

Enjoy the unlimited data!

used sim from 4 g that was already activated into 2 g. Restore in i tunes. activation process. 2*g said it was active.

No email yet. after 1 hour. Account data says that there was a change but not data plan shown....

messed up?

Can I do this if I don't have an iPhone 4?

I currently own a pretty basic ATT LG phone, i've got a spare 2G iPhone that a family member no longer uses, and i've got a spare new sim card as well.

All I do is put the new sim card in the phone, activate the phone with iTunes (choose the unlimited data of course) and then once thats done I can use that data service without an iPhone?

I've read all throughout here but it seems like everyone is using an iPhone 4 afterwards. I wanted to know if this is possible if you don't want to use an iPhone after you activate the new sim card with the unlimited data. I plan on getting the new Android phone ATT is releasing Sunday and I want the unlimited for that.

It SHOULD work, but no real way to know without the specific phone you are testing, but it definitely wouldn't hurt to try.
