Which AT&T number did you call? 1-866-526-9739? That's given to me because I got an email saying my activation process was canceled but it won't let me restart the process.

I got the number from itunes screen. There was a number when it said the msg "activation process has failed". on the other hand, i got the msg from ATT that they had changed my data plan to the appropriated plan which i'm assuming to be 30 dollar unlimited. The change is not reflected online.

We really need to merge this thread with the How to thread. I'm answering/asking the same questions on both ha.

We really need to delete both threads before this gets noticed by AT&T and the loophol is closed for good

hmm, today is the start of a new billing cycle for me, and it still shows the $20 unlimited iphone 2g data plan. I don't have a problem with only paying $20, but I just don't want them to close loophole, and not be able to jump on the $30 unlimited internet plan.

Then go to the website and change it manually. It should be there along with all the other plans.

I thought it was suppose to switch it automatically at the start of the new billing cycle

It's suppsed to do it within an hour or two after putting the sim in the iPhone 4/3GS/3G iPhone but sometimes AT&Ts scan doesn't catch it. You can always call them and have them switch it over.

well I'm a new AT&T customer and I signed with them on the 24th with the 2GB data for two lines and did the loophole for one of the lines. The other still has the 2GB data. if I call them won't they ask me how I have unlimited now?

a friend of mine says loophole no longer exists. when he tries to switch from 2g $20 data plan to 3g $30 data plan it says something like "feature not compatible with equip, call customer support".

This is normal. It won't allow you to switch on your own. This is why you insert the sim in the iPhone 4 and allow AT&Ts system to switch it for you. It's all in the instructions.

The system switched his automatically to the 3g unlimited, thx. But this is what he feels will happen. Since he activated originally with his old 2g, the system gave him edge unlimited/200 texts for $20/month. He then put the sim in his 3g and the system gave him unlimited 3g for $30/month. So now, naturally, if he puts the sim in his iphone4, the system, eventually, will automatically switch him to 200mb or 2gb for $15/$25 a month. Well even if this happens, it might not happen right away, ya'll minus well enjoy it while ya can. Good Luck Fellas.

Not sure where this logic is coming from. I'm assuming you're basing the 3G's $30/month off the fact that 2G's only available data plan is unlimited $20/month? As far as I know, I could go buy a 3G from anywhere, take it to AT&T to activate, and the only data plans available to me would be the DataPro or DataPlus. Same with 3GS and the 4. So assuming "naturally" that putting the sim into the 4 would switch to the DPro or DPlus plans is wrong.

Well, to me, it's obvious that if you buy a 3g today, and activate it, you can only choose from the two available 3g data plans. - DataPro or DataPlus. But if you put an already active sim with the $20 data/sms plan, then at&t's system will put you on 3g unlimited, like it has been for all those in this thread. That's where my thought of, the system automatically switching you back to either the DataPro or DataPlus, comes from. Even if it doesn't do it now, at&t can surely program the system to do it later. If a cellphone csr, can see when your acct started, when you switched plans, etc. They will see your truly not grandfathered in, and have the system make adjustments accordingly. Not to rain on the parade, just a thought. So, don't think i'm wrong. Just think ahead.

Sure, I'm not arguing with AT&T eventually looking at every single person with unlimited data and manually changing them back to DataPro or even reprogramming their system to downgrade. But the way you presented your train of thought was as if because your friend put the sim SPECIFICALLY in the iPhone 4, that only then would he (eventually) not be able to get unlimited data. That's all I was saying.

Ah, I see. No, I wasn't specifically singling him out. I was just speaking about the long run in general. This is a great loophole for those that want unlimited data, but we have to realize that at&t will probably catch up to us. It's a cat and mouse game and unfortunately, we are the mice. But, at least we're the mice with the cheese! So lets eat it up before they catch us! Good luck again.

Uhoh. I couldn't get att to give me a micro sim, so I just used my sim from my other cell. Now when I get my iphone 4 and I activate the micro, will I no longer get the unlimited?

If you have an activated AT&T SIM with unlimited data cut it down and put it in the iPhone 4.

You don't need a microsim now if you don't have an iphone yet.

When you go to get your iP4 just make sure you are on the 2G unlimited plan, and when they switch you over it will let you switch to the 3g unlimited.

I had a 3G before. I switched to a BB though, still on AT&T. I'm still using my BB now. If I switch back to my 3G, would I still get the $30 unlimited data? My contract is up at the end of the August and I might get the iPhone 4, so I would like to try to keep the $30 unlimited instead of the new capped plans.

As far as I know the only way to get unlimited data now if you aren't already on the 3g unlimited plan, is to get the 2g unlimited plan.

Don't believe it will work with a blackberry. What plan do you have now?

Yes, you will be able to move to the $30 iPhone Unlimited data plan. You will not keep your BB data plan as it is not compatible with the iPhone but again, you will get have the option for the iPhone Unlimited Data plan. You will also get Visual Voicemail.

The Unlimited data plans that are eligible are any Smartphone, so any current smartphone data plan will allow you to move to the iPhone 4 and get the iPhone Unlimited Data plan.

So wait, just to clarify, if I buy a used iphone 2G on ebay, and a microsim adapter, can I do the trick where I put my i4 sim into the 2g, activate it there and get unlimited, and then pop it back into my iphone 4? Or will it not work if the 2g wasn't previously on my account? I'm new to AT&T as of the iphone 4 release last month.

Also, if it DOES work, can I then swap the microsim between the two phones at will, if I ever DO want to use the 2g on a trip or vacation?
