Ok, I plan on doing this. But what if my number isn't eligible for upgrade? Will I still be able to activate the new sim card?
You get unlimited data the second you activate the 2G iPhone.Ok, and one last question, what if I don't currently have a data plan added onto my account? Will I still be able to get the new unlimited data right off the bat? Or would I have to get the 2Gb first and then do this
Will I be able to keep my unlimited texting plan I currently have?
I posted this question on the other thread on this subject but it seems to be less active so I'm re-posting here.
Here's my plan:
(1) Take iPhone 2G that is currently being used on T-Mobile and take out the SIM card.
(2) Call AT&T and activate this iPhone 2G with a brand new AT&T SIM card (I assume they can activate based on the iPhone IMEI # + SIM ICCID # ???)
(3) During activation, tell AT&T CSR that I want the 2G unlimited data plan.
(4) Once iPhone 2G is working with my AT&T phone number/account, remove the SIM card, cut to microSIM size, and put it my iPhone 4 (which was previously activated using the original microSIM).
(5) Put the T-Mobile SIM back in the iPhone 2G.
MY GOAL: Use my friend's iPhone 2G, which he currently uses on T-Mobile, but I don't want to wipe his phone. I just want to temporarily activate it on AT&T, and then give it back to him so he can put his T-Mobile SIM back into the phone and go on his way without any trouble.
Will this work?
Well currently I'm on an unlimited texting family plan which gives all the numbers on my account unlimited text. It's different then unlimited text per line
If I don't choose a texting package will I still have the unlimited texting from the family plan?
I want to keep all my original plan details, other than the data. E.g keep the entire family plan which includes the mobile to mobile and the unlimited text
whats the point of cutting out a micro sim? u can use the same micro sim that came with the iphone 4 just call at&t so they can ovewrite the sim with the new number....DUH
Thinkin about this too.. i think someone said it does, not sure though
can someone answer?????
Is your speed slower after you do this or not????????????????
now 810kps down 80 up.
before 1670 down 100up
Loophole or not what kind of scam are the idiots are AFT running??????
Unlimited amount of shi t is still shi t.
Why don;t they cap their mouths and PR so we do not have to hear all the bulllcrap they say .
am i missing a major step here? is it because my microSIM isn't fresh? i'm not a phone techie and really don't know how mobile networks work...help is appreciated, thanks!
Yes.
Restore the iPhone with a brand new never before used sim in it. Itunes will now prompt you to activate and pick your plan with unlimited data. READ.
I see... it somehow makes sense too, but I was wondering why it worked for some others... post #45 says it works with the original already-activated microSIM from the iphone4...
SpaceKitty advocates using a new sim. Some people said they didn't have to restore. I used the same sim during both, and restored the 2G. For me, after restoring the 2G without activating it yet, I restarted the activation process
Personally, I'm paranoid that if I call them they'll see the recent changes from 2GB to unlimited EDGE to unlimited 3G and they'll suspend my service or something, so until my billing cycle ends and AT&T officially shows me being on 3G unlimited, I'm just going to deal with the lack of MMS messages. Then I'll give them a call and have them fix it.
Can someone please answer my question,
If I don't choose a texting package will I still have the unlimited texting from the family plan?

Chances are, there's going to be a conflict with the $20 iPhone Plan since it includes texting. What will probably happen is that it'll remove the Unlimited Family Texting, give you the $20 iPhone Data Plan. Then, when you put the sim back into the iPhone 4 and you receive the text that you now have the $30 Unlimited Data Plan, you can then proceed to add the Unlimited Family Texting plan back into your account.
so it sounds like to me that it works for some and for some it doesn't with an already activated sim, right? But when you say restore, do you restore the whole phone? I only did the network restore to see if it would do anything upon restart, since the phone is somebody's i just borrowed and she still is using it...
plus, i don't think they can do anything to you since you're actually not doing anything wrong... switching over to an iphone 2g to use it for 5 seconds is perfectly legal... and sequentially switching back to the iphone 4 is perfectly legal action as well... i might be dead wrong here, but i think we're all within legal boundaries...
