I'm planning to buy a new sim card to get this thing going through the 2g phone. But if a borrow a friend's 2G, will I have to reset any network settings or any others? I just want to give it back to the original condition as when I got it from him...

Have your friend backup the iPhone to his computer, because you'll HAVE to restore the iPhone from your computer to activate it. Then when you're done with it, give it back to him and he should be able to pop his sim card in it, restore from backup, and be back to normal (assuming he actively uses the phone)

ok, that means i'll tell him to backup the phone via itunes, is that correct? and in the worst-case scenario, the settings will vanish... contacts, emails, sms and media should still be around after even the master reset as far as i know?!?
i dont know about you guys, but i'm scared!!:eek::eek:

Nice!!

Remember, that 2G iPhone will once again get you unlimited data if you ever switch to the 2GB plan and then decide you want to go back to unlimited. Just activate the 2G once again but choose that you are replacing your current iPhone with the 2G. The only data plan it will offer you is unlimited.

It won't work. They will see that there was an iPhone 4 plan on the account with the limited data... that pre-empts your wish for unlimited. AT&T do keep account records.

Wow, apparently you don't comprehend what you read because you missed the whole point of this thread:

It works 100%. Go back and start at the beginning.

Then why hasn't that stopped them from giving me unlimited data? I'm not saying you're wrong about them keeping records or being capable of seeing it. But apparently their computer systems have a loophole in their account checking because it doesn't check account activation date or past data records before allowing for unlimited data.

Going from iPhone 4 with 2 GB data feature to the original iPhone with unlimited data and then going back to iPhone 4 with unlimited has worked for a lot of people.

that better include iphone 4 users with 200MB of data... ;)

Has anyone else had any success with this lately. I am aquiring a 2G soon and want to make sure the loop hole hasnt been closed yet. People that have gone to the ATT store to get you a blank 2G sim, how easy did they give it to you or did they ask alot of questions? Also I would like to cut that sim down to fit in the IP4 so I dont have to call ATT, is there any easy template online so I dont have to buy a cutter?

IF and IF i were to mess that sim up cutting it down, how hard would it be to get ATT to activate my old original micro sim back on the IP4...wonder if they would still give me the unlimited?

You only have to call AT&T if you have an iPhone 4 already activated.

Why do you have to get a NEW Micro-Sim?

Will it work for me?....

I bought the iPhone 4 as an upgrade from a regular "DUMB" phone.

And I am almost certain I will go over the 2gb plan I signed up for.

Since my old phone had a regular SIM, can't I just use it with the Original iPhone? Instead of having to get a new one.

Then, when switching back to my iPhone 4, can't I just use the Micro-SIM that came with it?

I really don't want to talk to AT&T (I get nervous easy ;) ) so would the online activation with AT&T work the same as calling them? Thats how I activated my iPhone the first time (iTunes had some error and wouldn't activate for me)...

I want Unlimited, but I don't want a HUGE ORDEAL with AT&T. We already have had conflicts in the past.

buy a micro sim card adapter you can get one for 3 bucks with shipping on ebay.

...or make one within the next 5 minutes... use an old credit/gift card and cut it accordingly... really common sense... as well as alignment isn't too hard...

Guys,

My girlfriend just got her iphone 4 yesterday in the mailbox and it obviously hasn't been activated then. What I did was I cut her old regular sim card down to a micro sim and stuck it in her iphone 4 which works just fine.
Now we have a spare micro sim that came with the iphone 4. It is not yet activated. My question is, can I still use this spare micro sim and do this 2G activation without deactivating the number she used to upgrade to her iphone (she used somebody else's phone line in her family plan to upgrade).

I hope I was clear in what I wrote :(:(:(

Basically what I'm trying to ask is whether the new spare micro sim is linked to the other phone line and may be deactivated if I put it in the 2G to activate it with her number...I have the feeling that it won't, but at the same time I have the feeling it may...

I have a question, maybe someone can help me. I just bought an iphone 2g from someone activated. When I activated I received an option "unlimited web" for $20 per month. My question is when I do upgrade am I going to be eligible to continue unlimited data with my iPhone 4? I m sorry if this question has been answered. Thanks for your help.

God I wish I knew someone with a 2G. I don't want to bother seeking one out. Awesome trick, but I do not often use enough data to need unlimited again.

Hey, I am had a couple of questions about this loophole. I am getting my iPhone 4 in a couple of days and NEEDED unlimited 3g. I want to get everything right the first time. When I get my iPhone 4 in the mail, should I activate it with the Microsim or should I borrow a friends 2g first? I don't understand the order in which I need to do things. Is that what I am supposed to do:

Borrow a friends 2g
Activate my number on the 2G through iTunes?
Go online and select the plan
Cut my sim and put it into my iPhone 4 and activate it

Is this all I need to do?

Or do I need to activate my iPhone 4 first? Sorry for all of the confusion, I just need to know the process because I am going to do it for my sister and father as well. Thanks so much!

Yes
Yes
Yes
Doesn't matter if you use the new microsim or the cut old sim.

I tried this tonight, but I screwed up along the way because it didn't work. Can someone tell me how I messed this up?

1.) I have an iPhone 4 with an already activated account on the microsim.
2.) I bought an iPhone 2G off of ebay.
3.) I took the microsim from the iPhone 4, put it in a sim adapter, and put the sim in the iPhone 2G
4.) I attempted to activate the iPhone 2G through iTunes, but the phone basically sat there and said "no sim" and wouldn't get past the emergency dial screen.

The OP's instruction's seemed idiot-proof, but there a foul-up somewhere. Am I missing a step here? Do I have to jailbreak/unlock the iPhone 2G first or something?

^ you didnt insert your sim correctly

OK, so the iPhone 2G can be stuck at the emergency call screen and it still will work, like this:

1.) Insert iPhone 4G already activated microsim, via adapter, into newly restored iPhone 2G
2.) Plug into iTunes
3.) iTunes will ask you to activate
4.) Choose unlimited data plan

Does that sound about right?
If so, I'll give it another whirl tonight. Thanks for the help.

loophole

I heard that this loop hole will be good until aug 27th and then the 2g will lose its unlimited plan as well therefore closing the loop. I'm hoping this is true bc I ordered my iphone 4 today and it should be about a week until I get it. So thats what I have heard can anyone else verify this info or that they have recently suceeded in this attempt
