hey guys.

Brand new to iphones, just picked up a 2g on CList for an amazing price. Figured it would be nice to have unlimited data. I have an old sim card that cingular sent me that I never used. Will it work for this? Also, it says 3g on it, 64k smart chip. Will cutting that down to iphone 4 size when I get it make the phone any slower since it would be an older sim(about 1-2yo)?

And would you recommend I pick up some new sim cards on ebay, or if this new one works can i use that? And did I read correctly that I can just use the sim I have now in my LG At&t phone?

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.:)

I used the same sim card I activated in my 2g. Just cut it down to fit the tray, put it in and booted the iPhone 4.

Yeah thats what I'm planning to do, but my iphone 4 isn't coming for another 2 weeks. Can I take my current at&t phone's sim, and activate my iphone 2g with it, or does it have to be a never activated sim card?

Not sure about that. I just stopped in a local AT&T and said I needed to get a sim for an iPhone I purchased on craigslist.

Damn, still getting iTunes error :(

Has anyone with a family plan that already gas unlimited texting on their family plan try this? And did it work for you?

isnt 2 gigs for all intents and purposes pretty much unlimited? i've never gone past 1 gig, and 2 gigs would be cheaper than unlimited.

Some of us use more than 2gb's a month so that wouldn't work.

Plus with some of the streaming video services coming.......might become very easy to chew up 2gb's pretty quick.

Did you buy a no contract iPhone 4? I have a prepaid SIM with unlimited data from an iPhone 2G. Can you tell me step by step what you did to get it working in the iPhone 4?

Don't have a no contract iPhone 4. I just returned to AT&T from a small stint with Sprint.

Okay people, this is al you need to do. There are NO needs for extra SIM cards, sim card readers, etc etc etc...

Here is what you need:
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 2g
- micro SIM card from iPhone 4
- tape

1. Take the micro SIM card out of your iPhone 4.
2. Take the SIM card out of your iPhone 2g.
3. Tape the micro SIM card into the iPhone 2g SIM tray, leaving 1/8" between the bottom and the left of the sim tray. Make sure you do not cover up any metal with the tape. And make sure the micro SIM card is facing the same direction the regular SIM card would be facing.
4. Place the SIM tray into the iPhone 2g. Activate it, as it will ask you to do.
5. When activating select the Unlimited option (for $20).
6. When activated, take the sim card out of the iPhone 2g and place it back into the iPhone 4.
7. ENJOY UNLIMITED DATA!

Are you on a family or individual plan to get activation to work?

Im on a family plan, using my friends old 2g while i wait for my 4 in the mail. Had no problems whatsoever activating the 20$ plan.

So you didn't like the evo or what?

The Evo is nice and so is the Android OS but I'm just tied into Apple. Apple laptop, iPod, etc. Just makes things easy that everything works together.

Oh and I missed a call with my evo because it was locked up. Can't have that happen and haven't had that problem with the iPhone.

As a new customer ( no account yet) that owns an iphone 2g and 3g. is it possible to go to at&t and sign up with my iphone 2g and just change the sim to the iphone 3g? that's all it takes?

This would also work on a family plan? Im not the account holder or whatever, so my mom pays the bills and everything. So i can just do this for my phone and everything would work?

Hopefully when i have money i could find an iPhone 2g somewhere for cheap..

I wonder how long before AT&T closes this loophole. I mean it'd be hard for them to without requiring activation of a new line in-store only. Considering the iPhone 2G works only on EDGE, therefore requiring a $20 unlimited data, they'd have to either eliminate the grandfathering of unlimited data or disallow activation of phones at home.

Yes, you could just swap SIM cards.

Very cool loophole. But, this is bound to be closed very, very soon. Fortunately, I don't think there are many others talking about this. I think we need to keep this on the down low to extend the life of this precious loophole. Because once gizmodo or engadget or some others pick this up and make it public, it's over. Is there ANY way to contain this loophole as quietly as possible? I think we need to focus on keeping this contained so that many others will be able to use this loophole before this is completely closed. Everyone should do this by avoiding talking about it on other forums. Please contain this loophole...

Yes this will work with the family plan. You will need the primary users SSN (the last 4 anyways) and billing zip code. If your in the Atlanta area I will rent you my iPhone 2g to use for this. $50. HAHA!
