So I am working with Apple at the moment and doing some testing. Below are my iPhone 6S and 7 running side by side on a clean restore of iOS 10.1
I have done this same trail for 3 years, twice a week and I know it's normally about 4.2km. Friends with other devices get similar results. Over this short distance the iPhone 7 is 25-30% different !!!!!

Douganator: I've seen varying degrees of overestimates of distance, the worst was a walk measured as 2 km where my iPhone 6 measures 1.6 kms. Less extreme was a trail race which is officially 13.4 kms where the iPhone 7 measured 14.2 kms.

I've got some news on my phone: Interestingly, the local technician looking at my phone didn't even look at the gps problem before he found out that that the home button was faulty. It's been forwarded to Apple.

Perhaps it's a hardware issue and the i7 gps just isn't as accurate as the 6/6S...

Well, in that case it's also worse than the 4 and the 5, never had problems like these with those.

My point is clear, with the iPhone 6S (and even looking back at my history of the iPhone 6 results) are clearly a lot different to the iPhone 7. Also, comparing the iPhone 7 to my friends devices (iPhones and Androids) we are seeing the same results here.
Secondly the track is also sign posted as being 4KM return by our local Department Of Conservation.

I didn't state early but the my device is the following. It looks like for the most its the same batch of devices with this issue?

iPhone 7
128GB
Matte Black
Model A1778

I am yet to hear back from Apple but I have requested a new (retail boxed) replacement or full refund.

iOS 10.1.1 is out now. I'm wondering is anyone have these same issues with iOS 10.1.1? I know that downloading the iOS 10.1 fixed my GPS issue. I'm now scared to go to 10.1.1. I don't want to have that issue again due to that fact that I'm an Uber driver and use GPS all day on my phone. This is so scary seeing the amount of people having this issue. I've been fine with 10.1, but I'm hoping and praying 10.1.1 doesn't revert me back to the issue.

Mine is iPhone 7, silver, 128GB, model A1778.

I am experiencing both GPS and Bluetooth issues with my Matte Black 128 GB iphone 7 plus. The GPS issue occurs with both Apple Maps and Google maps. My August lock can longer get an accurate fix on me when I arrive home. When using GPS, my location floats all over the place.
Regarding Bluetooth- I need to re pair it with my car stereo nearly every time I get into the car (Kia Soul)

FWIW, GPS using Apple Maps, Waze, or Google Maps on my iphone 6 128GB has been alternately inoperative, sporadic, or just generally schizoid in terms of it picking up where it thinks I am. I am so sick of seeing "GPS Unavailable, try going outside" when I use Waze since moving to ios10.x I DID sign up for the public betas, hoping that might fix the issue, but that was fruitless. I have since removed my beta profile and am in the midst of a total restore to 10.1.1 (or whatever the latest official release is.) I just can't believe that this issue is not being addressed by Apple when it is CLEARLY software related to ios10, since 9.x worked like a charm, regardless of what phone we all had.

Regs,
Jeff

Not so sure about that. GPS on my iPhone 6 and my wife's iPhone 5 is just as reliable with iOS 10 as it was with iOS 9, while the iPhone 7 I had (replacement coming in a few days) was significantly worse than those two.

Hello,

I've almost bought the iphone 7 few days ago, but decided to look at the response of owners, seems that was the right decision...
It's going to be my first iphone after androind phone, and I just don't want to have such issues from phone with price over 700$. By the way, iphone 6s doesn't have such problems, right? How about new iphone 6s with 32Gb, is it still works properly?
What you, guys, can recommend - to buy 6s or 7, or don't buy any iphone :)?

Sorry for dumb questions and thanks!

Reading online forums about a product is probably the worst, most biased way of learning about product issues or performance. Many more people than the ones that post here have no issues whatsoever.

I liked my iPhone 7 except for the gps problem, it's much faster (and obviuosly has more RAM) than my iPhone 6 (not 6s) and the tactile feedback is very nicely implemented. I also really appreciated the better water resistance.

It's difficult to judge how widespread the gps problems are. Many who have had GPS problems report that they were solved when they got a replacement phone. Interestingly, a hardware error with the home button was found on my phone - might be the source of the gps problems.

I'll definitely report back here when I get my replacement phone in a few days and have tried the gps for a couple of runs.

Received my iPhone 7 Plus in September and GPS was working fine. Waze, Google Map and Maps were working for me without any issues. Couple days ago after doing the 10.2 Public Beta update on my phone, all those apps are not working anymore. It's telling me GPS connection lost or cannot establish connection. I tried restoring the network settings, switching Location Services on and off and did a full restore of the phone but nothing worked.

Does anybody has similar issues? Is it maybe a 10.2 Beta issue? Everything was working fine before on iOS 10.1.1

Ok, so I got my replacement iPhone 7 yesterday. I went out for a run with still 10.0.2 and got terrible results - 12.5 km was recorded as 15! I thought, well maybe 10.1.1 will help, so this morning the restore was complete and I was allowed to update to 10.1.1. So I walked 1,6 km to work with the iPhone 6 in one pocket and the iPhone 7 in the other. Strava recorded 1.6 km on the iPhone 6 and 2.1 km on the iPhone 7. Arghh! Back to the store again today.

Just noticed yesterday when I used my GPS for the first time since getting the new iPhone 7 - it had a lot of trouble getting a lock on my location.

Using Waze - it periodically would say "No GPS. Try going outdoors..." And it sometimes it would find me, then sometimes it would lose me. Google and Apple Maps did the same thing - sometimes it would have me driving diagonally across streets in a neighborhood when I was cruising down the highway.

Not sure if Software or Antenna issue.

I did just notice that for some reason i'm on 10.0 and not 10.0.1 so I just updated and will try it again today. But posting now in case anyone is experiencing anything similar (or has resolved similar issues).

I had issue on my 7+ 256gb. Soft reset seemed to fix. Hold lock button and volume down together for about 10 seconds until apple logo comes up. This will not reset you your data or settings.

This has just started happening to me -I'm traveling and rely heavily on Waze.. Google Maps isn't working and even the iPhone Maps app is lagging 1-5 min, nor does it pick up my exact location or re-route if I make a wrong turn.. HELP!!!!

[doublepost=1478964538][/doublepost]I don't recall the exact timing, but it seemed to start happening after I updated software to 10.1.1

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Or do I need to call Apple IT??

Thank you!!

I'm having issues with 10.1.1 .. none of my navigation apps are working

I've got an appt with Apple Genius Bar on Thurs .. iPhone 7, 128mb, I've tried restarting it, uninstalling Waze and Google Maps (neither of which works). The iPhone Maps app is the most accurate, but it's not even working correctly; taking 1-5 min to update and not recalculating if I make a wrong turn)

It's been very frustrating and any suggestions would be appreciated!

[doublepost=1479048620][/doublepost]I tried this already, a couple times- my issues continue.. Also, I let the battery die completely, hoping that would reset things.. that didn't work either. I've done a network reset too.

Same issues here with a new 7. I guess a quick test can confirm the issue with either Google maps or the maps app.

The blue circle which indicates accuracy in both apps never gets "resolved" to either a very tiny circle surrounding your location or no circle. The blue circle in my apps usually sits around a radius between 50-100 meters and sometimes expands to a much larger circle. Are you guys with GPS issues seeing the same? Does the blue circle ever get resolved?

I wonder if there is an correlation between faulty GPS units and 16xx vs 17xx models. I, for one, received a bad one and mine is a 1778 model.

Possibly? I didn't even know of the difference between the A1660 and the A1778 model before your post made me google it.
