just restored updated to 4.1 and jailbroke my IP4 with greenpoison... so far everything is smooth, restored all my packages using pkgbackup and everything is working the way I want it, aside from trying to change the status bar battery color instead of the regular sized battery it comes up super super tiny, and changing the folderswitcher background was a little more difficult but I figured that out..... everything else is working fine.

Cydia working? O:

Quick question guys I'm JB and save my shsh blob with the limerain should I restore from itune and jb again with green poison ? Is there dramatic different between this two Jb ?

Apparently the icon doesn't show up for some.

hmm, well the way it worked for me was some blank icon showed up on my sprinboard, don't even remember what it was called but once I clicked it the option to install cydia was there, I installed it and it then asked me if I wanted to remove the blank icon, so I did

maybe it was called installer

I had used limera1n earlier, and just tried greenpois0n. Have to say I found limera1n's instructions for getting into DFU mode easier to follow, greenpois0n's instructions confused me by having the extra step of pressing the sleep button by itself for 2 (3?) seconds at the beginning. I've never seen that step for getting into DFU, and it didn't work, whether I started with my device turned off or on. I finally put it into DFU the way I usually do (start with the device on and connected to the computer, hold sleep and home for 10 seconds until it turns off, then let go of sleep and continue holding home until Windows starts installing device driver), and then started greenpois0n with the device already in DFU, and everything went smoothly after that. Loader icon was a white blob, but it opened and installed Cydia just fine, and then both the Cydia and Loader icons appeared normally.

All in all, not seeing much difference between greenpois0n and limera1n at this point. I prefer limera1n for getting into DFU, but other than that, both seem to work smoothly.

So I assume there is currently no way for Mac users to upgrade & jailbreak?

Not natively yet, some people had success with emulation (Parallel and VMware), other people (like me) had access to some type of windows machine (I used a co-worker's laptop)

I have another system that I use for gaming only. I wouldnt mind putting iTunes on it but I still want to sync to my Mac.

I'm assuming (though I'm unsure) that I can update to 4.1 on my Mac and then take it over the Windows system and run the GP jailbreak from that system and then resync it on my Mac.

I know this may be overly simplified but is this the jist of it?

never jailbroke before, what should I do to make 100% sure i dont lose all my contacts and text messages? iphone 4 running 4.1 of course, i saved my SHSH blobs a few days ago with tinyumbrella i have no idea what that means but i did it. I just dont want to have something go wrong (or as planned) and wind up losing everything. thanks!

is there even REALLY a difference between the two jailbreaks?? like how much of ram or HD space they use, etc. i currently have a beta 4 limera1n on my iphone 4.0.2, i have the option of only updating to 4.1 and save the 1.59.00 baseband, so i dont know if i should use the two official jb, limera1n or greenpois0n.

correct me if im wrong, but it doesnt matter if an iphone 4 is on baseband 01.59.00 or 02.10.04 to jailbreak, right? im on the new baseband on 4.1 through itunes, but i really dont care at this point of unlocking it

I'd love to know, too. I've always used my Mac to sync and JB. I could use Bootcamp to go into XP and do the JB there, and then sync back on the Mac? Or would it not be compatible?

Can anyone copy and paste the instructions here? I'm on a mac, and want to use a friend's pc, but want to view how complicated the JB process would be (how long I would need to borrow the laptop).

And could I use a university school computer for this?
