Not he didn't at all... the Right thing would have been to wait test and completely develop his tool, or just as he "took" comex exploit to make limera1n untethered, he could have give the bootrom exploit so the greenpois0n would have been update and test.

He did give them his exploit. It was only after they said they were going to release SHAtter anyway that he tried to force their hand. Geohot's method of forcing their hand was crude, and he could have perhaps done so without releasing his own tool and stealing the spotlight; but if geohot is right that his exploit is already known, Chronic Dev were also wrong not to have agreed to use Geohot's exploit and insist on burning SHAtter.

But would anything short of this have changed Chronic Dev's mind? Threatening to release his jailbreak after theirs didn't work. Perhaps chpwn is right and releasing his exploit on Github would have been enough to make Chronic Dev do the right thing. But can we be sure? Could Geohot be sure?

Exactly. May not have done it properly but cdt seemed bitter and reluctant to use limerain exploit over shatter. By releasing he forced them to use limerain exploit which is better for all of us in the end we are just gonna be delayed for a pwn tool of sorts to be released but at least we know there is still a future bootrom exploit. IMHO they better not use the shatter exploit for 4.2 if apple changes the bootrom in between now and then blocking limerain. Continue to use the limerain exploit until iPhone 5 is released ensuring us all a jb and anyone who buys a new bootrom ip4 will just have to wait IMO that would be best for everyone

Like what? What else could he have done? ChronicDev refused to listen to reason. If Geohot didn't release limera1n, then they would have surely released the SHAtter exploit and screwed us all over for the future. They were more concerned with meeting their stupid 10/10/10/10/10 deadline than protecting the greater good of the jailbreaking community.

I did follow the story. However it seems you haven't. egohot wanted to tell the CDT a few days ago... A FEW DAYS AGO. Why didn't he do that a few MONTHS ago when he actually KNEW ABOUT it. Limera1n has been around since June. Why didn't he say anything then?

I can't tell you the exact reason. I'm not part of the dev team or geohot. Both exploits have been around since early this year, cdt decided to pursue the shatter exploit. Geohot felt his was going to be blocked later and needed to be used now. Cdt didn't want to postpone delay so they were going to release shatter this morning.

All morals and values aside, the right choice was made for us, the end users and that's all that matters. If that means geohot had to be an ass or has to be perceived as one is fine, so long as it's in the better interest of us, which it is so all of this complaining to geohot should be turned into thanks. Sure he probably shouldn't have released a broken tool etc but at least he saved us a future exploit. Here's to hoping the cdt quits these childish antics and saves shatter.

This is the part that is humorous to me. He waited until they announced a release date, and then told them he had an exploit they should use instead. An exploit he's supposedly known about since April. Why wait? Well, if you want to give the appearance of doing the right thing, you can say "Hey, I told them about it and they didn't act." Well of course they didn't. You waited until the last possible moment. Had he shared this months ago, we wouldn't be here right now.

So he gets to say he was just "doing the right thing" while simply doing what he planned to do no matter what. Lying to Comex to get the exploit he needed to make limera1n untethered didn't win him any friends, either.

I'm not arguing that it should have been done long ago nor that it should have been handled differently. I am saying that in the end geohot had to release it in order for shatter to be saved. Now whether this was a byproduct of him being an ass or if it was part of his intentions it is what needed to be done. Why they weren't working on using limerain from the beginning is something you and I will prob never know. Maybe the exploit wasn't mature enough, maybe cdt wanted nothing to do with geohot and didn't want to use his exploit until forced to do so, who knows. In the end we got what's best for us, so I'm not sure what you are trying to say? Based on what cdt said on twitter geohot admitted to not working on limerain until they announced the eta. Perhaps he then realized they needed to save shatter for later so began working to finalize limerain and threw up the site and pics to try to force the cdt to use it, they refused and ge was forced to release. And nobody is the almighty power here. The devteam can't stop any exploits or nbd from being released. They could have not given comexs userland exploit forcing limerain to be tethered, but they can't stop him or cdt from using the exploits and releasing the tools they want

Of course, he had the exploit for 6 months, why wait until just a few days before release to establish communication? Release the details of the exploit in the wiki, that would have the same effect without the messy tool.

ANyways, Limera1n is out so I'm done with this issue, I am going to wait for beta15 (i hope it will be stable by them) or Greenpois0n whatever comes first.

All those geohotz haters... please tell me you didn't and will not plan to use limera1n to jailbreak.

If you did, then you all have conveniently side swerved the one crucial point that is beneficial to the jailbreaking community: You got a jailbreak across ALL device NOW based on an exploit that is likely to be plugged in the near future. The jailbreak community now has an exploit for ONLY A4 devices saved. Thus allowing a ray of hope that it is still around in the future when A4 devices are still around while older devices dwindle and diminish. I don't care if SHAtter is also subject to being plugged. Exploits are far in between and the best course of action is to select the one with higher survivability and save it. In this case, also the user base made the exploit choice sensible: Lots of people are still on 3GS and 3G, so why not release an exploit that also supports them NOW rather than later when those numbers dwindle as they migrate to A4 devices?

I don't give half a rats ass whose ego is being stomped on or whose ego is being fed. Yea, I sound like an unappreciative ass for saying that, but what was their ultimate goal in their projects? That's right... for the benefit of the jailbreaking community. Ego was tossed in there and all sorts of arguments happened. I'm not defending Geohotz for his piss poor timing and egotastic actions. Neither am I defending CDT for their firm stand on burning SHAtter just to meet their ETA. Though, I will give CDT the benefit of the doubt that they certainly will be receiving a **** ton of hate tweets/mails/comments/posts about them slipping the date... so why not just blame it on Geohotz... like they're doing now? I stopped reading here. Why? Because I have not used, and do not plan on using Limera1n as it is now. I will wait for the Dev Team to do their coding and testing and then release before I even touch the exploit.
