Instead of playing it right he's revealing another deep and valuable exploit to Apple
Comex has a few more userland JB's so 3GS owners could have waited for those for an utethered JB instead.
This whole thing doesnt make much sense besides beeing a childish game.

the bootrom exploit used by limera1n is, but he is using the same userland exploit that comex developed to make it untethered for 4.1

Go for it, there is no JB for 4.02, but use tinyumbrella for the upgrade to maintain your baseband 01.59.00

It could be the case that geohot thought Apple knew about both the Shattered exploit and his limera1n. So instead of completely wasting it he's releasing it now as Apple will likely revise the hardware which would block both these exploits.

I have no need for a unlock but wouldn't mind keeping my current baseband should I ever decide to sell my phone. I would still be able to unlock it. Before I take the time to make sure I preserve my 1.59 baseband I am curious to know if the new baseband provided better coverage at all?? I have horrible service at home and if the new baseband is giving people better service then I'm not going to worry about preserving my 1.59 baseband. Any insight??

I don't know for sure but I'm pretty confident that the updated baseband simply blocks the unlock. I wouldn't of thought it would be able to give you better coverage. It's always worth preserving the baseband at 1.59 just in case you do decide to sell.

They won't, limera1n is untested, it is only going to bring issues.

Update: I guess I was wrong, Chrone Dev team will hold Greenpois0n now , Now we have to wait longer or rick it with a very buggy limera1n (Geohot screw everything up for everyone IMO)

They just said that they are trying (working hard as we type) to implement Geohot exploit and still release sometime tomorrow. Bit I rather wait a couple of days more for testing than break my devices. but that's me

Tethered = Must be connected to computer to reboot and keep jailbreak
Untethered = can reboot an not lose jailbreak.

They just said its delayed, so its just a maybe for tomorrow now. If you don't care about unlocking, then you don't have to worry about the baseband.

untehtered means you can turn off your iphone without having it plugged in.

tethered means you have to have your iphone plugged into a computer or you will lose JB

That's traditional operating procedure for this guy. Look at what he "did for" the PS3 owners. He kicked off an arms race that left Sony removing features from the PS3, promised to continue working on hacking them, and then promptly packed up shop and never said another word about it.

So now the other teams are stuck rushing to implement this guy's exploit while still meeting the deadline they just set. We get to trade a coded and thoroughly tested exploit for one that's potentially-buggy rushed to market. Or, we end up waiting for geohot's exploit to become more mature.

Either way, the community suffers. I know the guy's pretty young, but from the looks of comments around the 'net it seems like people in the jailbreak scene are sick of his childish behavior. I had hoped when he left last time it'd be for good, but unfortunately that didn't work out...
