The point is that there isn’t any other way you can charge your watch and AirPods wirelessly. So it’s either use AirPower or do without.
I have a belkin stand that charges my phone and watch. The watch charges “wirelessly” by just sitting on the circle charger off to the side.

Yes, but it’s a dedicated watch charger that won’t work with anything else, right?

With AirPower, seems it will work with any combination of such devices. No specific arrangement or order required. You could use it to charge two iPhones, or (my guess) multiple watches and Airpods even.

My guess is that like with the Airpods, we are looking at small conveniences which aren’t available to third party products. Will be up to the consumer to decide whether those are worth the price tag.

Obviously Apple didn't finish with fully testing the final product that would of been given the light for production if passed. Apple announced before this was complete. Wait until all this is finished then announce it.

They announced the Airpower last September in 2017, noting it would release in 2018. And since then, the Airower has had no marketing whatsoever. I would think at least in between, they would have marketed the Airpower that ‘It’s coming’ or showing its usefulness for its products in the home. It’s almost forgotten at this point, even though I think it will do well for those who want simulatneously Charge their devices.

Haha. Apple should have kept their mouth shut about this. Amazing a company this big and with this many resources cannot release a product on time after it's announced.

Honestly, does it really matter? It's a little late to the game.
I was thinking the same thing... and there are far better implementations already on the market. This makes me think this falls around the same priority level as the iPod shuffle circa 2015.

The only reason I have not bought any wireless charger. I have been waiting for this. I hope it will worth the wait.

Could this really have been so difficult to create that it's taking a year+ to bring to market? Apple seems like the corporate version of a Kickstarter campaign lately.

I can only think the delay in releasing this product is because Apple can't find a way to justify the price they will be charging for this £40 bit of kit.

Im not sure people will be that stupid to pay 3 x price of a regular one as they won't get anything from it. Cant show it off, cant play with it.

It also looks a little oversized compared to everything else. Bit of a bad design, they should probably just focus on charging the phone and maybe have the mat put out 5v so you can connect the watch charger if you want.

I rarely do this, but I’d Steve were alive...

He’d have whipped them until that product popped out on his timeline.

I believe Jobs would have wanted the Product to be completed right the first time without compromises. I would rather have a Product delayed or take longer to release if that means it delivers with the experience. That’s more important to me.

I will think about ver 2.

Apple announcing products and features a year + out and then failing to produce is starting to get old. Apple is going to get more bad PR, than trying to keep people chasing after some mystical Apple carrot.

In my opinion, it is best to keep quiet, until you know you have the product ready for prime time.

I miss the days when Apple waited to announce things until they were ready to launch within a month of that announcement.
If you remember those days, one of the biggest complaints was that Apple was too secretive and should share more about their product plans...

So why announce it in September of 2017? They should have just waited until it was ready and avoid the backlash. They haven't learned their lesson...yet.

Why would you announce products that wont ship for another year and tons of new emojis....... probably because you have nothing else to announce?

I think they ARE way too secretive. I think that the only reasons that they announced the charging mat last year was because they finally had a phone that could use a wireless charger and they didn’t want the Apple faithful buying some other non Apple brand. I bet internally they thought first quarter, 2018 and they were hoping a lot of people would hold off. Especially since the pad meant you could charge multiple Apple devices and not need to buy multiple pads or pucks to charge them all wirelessly. If you have a lot of Apple merchandise AND the price isn’t ridiculous it’s not a bad selling point. But something didn’t work out and now they’ve clammed up again. Even Apple fans more or less forgot about this announcement because Apple hasn’t mentioned it at all in months.

"Gurman says Apple engineers initially hoped for a June launch, presumably at WWDC 2018, but noted the AirPower has been delayed due to technical challenges, including the potential for overheating, complex multi-device charging circuitry, and software bugs with the accessory's on-board firmware."

Well..we're off to a good start.

Perhaps Apple should actually start actually be on the right path, instead the 'hopelessly lost' one. Make sure its achievable first before announcing it.

Apple either gets there in the end, or gives up. I reckon they'll give up... Its already in the 'too hard basket' now. Just like the TouchID under the screen of future iPhones

Does anyone really give a **** about this product.

I mean come on its a charge mat... not even particularly well thought through. Nothing to stop you knocking your devices off it as it looks like a slippery gloss surface. All the devices will point upward so its not like you can use the watch in nightstand mode and you wont be able to see notifications from your phone at a glance.

Its not exactly big so the target audience who owns all three products it wouldn't be difficult to slip your phone onto it and knock the airpods off or the watch and not realise and come to them in the morning with no juice.

Plus it will be like the homepod, stupidly expensive and like the iPhone battery pack... stupidly designed.

For the majority of people it will sit on a desk or on a bedside table so why isn't it designed with those ergonomics in mind?
Yes, I care about this product and will buy one when it's available. I want to wirelessly charge my iPhone, Watch and AirPods.

And I never made that complaint. One of my favorite things about Apple was the surprise factor. They consistently wowed us with things. Now there are no surprises and most of what Apple does is pretty boring. They’re still a great company with (mostly) great products but nothing Apple is doing gets me excited about tech in any way. I miss that feeling.

I posted earlier that I thought they should have released a “dumb” pad even if you had to place the device to be charged in a specific place on the pad. Since they hadn’t announced the device detect capacity yet no one would have known it was missing, and the Apple branded wireless charger would have been available when the iPhone X was.

I had forgotten about this; assumed it just went the way of the dodo bird. Anyone who wanted an inductive charger would have purchased one by now from another vendor? I sure didn't wait around.
Yeah, I bought three for like $15 each and they work great. As much as it would be nice to have a mat to charge both my phone and watch on, I'm not paying $150 to do so.
