Tim Cook is just trying everything he possibly can to keep the company growing until he retires so he can say his legacy was great.

Anyone smart knows that his legacy is marred with terrible decisions though.

1. Purchasing Beats (just wow)

2. Not making an extremely cheap Apple TV Pod ($49) and extremely powerful gaming Apple TV Pro ($399).

3. Releasing terrible service after terrible service (Apple TV+, Fitness, Apple News, Apple Arcade)

4. Giving the okay on adding ‘Peek’ and ‘Pop’.

5. Switching the iPhone to a matte glass back from the beautiful and grippy smooth glass.

6. Switching the iPhone back to sharp squared edges.

7. Giving the okay on moving Notifications to a hidden submenu on the Lock Screen/Notification Center

8. Giving the okay on moving notifications to the bottom of the lock screen while simultaneously adding Lock Screen customization but not including the obvious customization of moving the notifications back to the smart place, up the screen.

9. Moving the company to more operations-led rather than design-led.

10. Moving the company to more services-led rather than hardware-led
ehh I wouldn’t say these are all “terrible” decisions and definitely nothing to taint his or Apple’s legacy.

Apple’s services are doing very well. and don’t you think they’ve by now made back what they spent on Beats? I’m sure Beats sales alone since they bought them have exceeded $3B lol.

terrible decisions were made during and before Cook and they will continue to be made because no company or CEO is perfect.

I think it's time that Tim Apple is replaced and someone new comes in to take over Apple.

The Apple bubble is about to burst if this is the road they are going down. I know Apple has always been for people with money to burn but this is beyond a joke now. When colleges/universities and individuals with a good amount of disposable income are turning against them then that says a lot.

People can't afford this **** anymore (unless you're rich) and they certainly wont in 2024.

Imagine buying a $1800 iPhone - that runs on crappy iOS 16. What a let down.

The “Ultra” needs its own operating system.

I’ve got a better idea!
How about an “Ultra” version of iOS thats not perpetually bug ridden?

I bet millions of people would subscribe to that. A big money maker.
iPhone’s problem isn’t the hardware, its the  software.

Pro users get the best features because they pay higher, they will no longer get that if another model comes along and the pro line just becomes a basic line with a stupid name.

How is that envy? You know Tim isn’t going to hate you right if you don’t agree with Apple for once.

You are assuming a lot of facts not in evidence here. The article said the (thus far mythical) phone would get additional features, not that it would cannibalize the existing pro line. In fact, the article points to new features the Pro phones will get as well.

Nor am I “agreeing with Apple”. In fact, I think they are possibly incorrect in assuming people will pay much more than they already are, particularly with a recession looming. I also think Apple is getting too SKU heavy here which is making development, both of iOS as well as third party apps, more difficult.

What do people who have wired CarPlay do when their iPhone has no port?

My guess is he doesn't have more than three more years left.

He will leave a lot of happy shareholders but a product lineup that is a convoluted mess.

Something like this? It looks cool but I’m not sure if I’m sold on it. It looks like a Mini iPad 😂

That's the Fold. No that's not what I'm talking about but I actually think Apple probably is working on their own version of that.

No I'm just talking about the Samsung Galaxy Ultra series. S22 Ultra is last year's model and S23 Ultra was just put up for preorders.

The Ultra is a slab phone close in size to the iPhone 14 Pro Max. It offers all the same sort of standard slab phone functionality as the 14 Pro Max but also has an S Pen embedded in the chassis. You can pop the S Pen out and write quick notes on your screen when the phone is off. There are a lot of things that can be done with the S Pen that are better covered in videos than what I can go into here.

It's a fantastic phone. I'm very fortunate to be able to have one and iphones.

I’m pretty sure it will come with a 2TB option. We need more storage due to the 48 MP Camera. Apple might even double the MP count.

Agree re the 2TB option (especially as solid state storage keeps decreasing in price).

I don’t see them doubling the MP count anytime soon, though. Pro Raw and Pro Res files are way too big to double yet again. And until Thunderbolt shows up as a data transfer medium, Pro Res is too big to efficiently move off device.

Can’t the Pro users just buy the more expensive phone or are they confined to using only things with Pro in the name?

LOL. Those “bad” decisions have only made Apple the most valuable company in the world.

Agreed! He’s a supply chain guy. All he cares about is generating money, money, and money. Expect more Service offers from Tim Cook until he retires. That is his main motive. Apple desperately needs someone who is Product Visionary.

I think in recent years Apple has lost that vision and the core value.

Shareholders (the owners of the company) want Apple to generate money. That’s why they own shares. Product Vision is simply a means to that end.

I can buy any iPhone I want - and yet the iPhone 13 Mini is the right size for me. It's also one that I don't feel I'm getting fleeced by Apple
I have the last Intel model MBP16 with the 5600M (due to the overheating issues using external displays with the 5300/5500M) and it wasn't so much the cost, as the distaste of Apple milking their customers that turns me off of the brand.
Apple under Tim Cook is an elitist life-style brand, much more so than under SJ. I felt that Jobs and Ive made choices that were expensive in order to provide a good experience for the user - not in order to provide a mega-bonus for shareholders.

How utterly ridiculous to suggest getting rid of the non-Pro models.
I didn’t say to get rid of the non-pro models. Keep them! however, Move those toward the Apple event in Spring. No need to be releasing them with the Pro models. They will most likely be carrying last year’s chip.
