So assume they add features to the higher end phone, how do “pro” purchasers suffer at all? Seems like a little bit of envy on your part
The pros will suffer in the same way every other year apple likes to have a slightly better camera in the pro-max to entice you to pay more over the pro. Most the time there isn't a really good reason the pro couldn't have the same camera, but Apple just wants you to pay more for it. They will hold out features on the pro for no other reason but to entice you to buy the ultra, even though those features could easily be included in the pro. Tim is all about this "ladder" product line to get people to pay more money. MKBHD did a great video about this recently. It is a massive profit generator for them.

Too many options. Why do we need an entirely new line when Apple can see too many options confuses people and dilutes sales.

So, they just want to have the Samsung model apparently. That’s why I prefer Apple, because lately they haven’t been making a big phone with extra features like Samsung does. I’d prefer they not do this, but I guess Apple likes having more expensive “premium” options.

I was interested until they mentioned it would be a portless design. That alone makes it a lower-end option
It’s cost-cutting under the guise of brave design. This is all about Apple developing higher-end profits, not higher-end technology.

Also, so I don’t have to comment separately, I initially came in here to say: This is NUTS. Apple are NUTS.

Probably lose out; unless Apple comes out with some sort of wired to wireless adapter using a modified MagSafe puck.

I have CarPlay and use it wired because wireless is problematic in my install while wired is pretty much rock solid.
Apple loves a good dongle.

And I like the AW Ultra. I won’t buy an iPhone Ultra if it’s bigger than the Pro though. I really want a Pro Mini.

They should lose the "Pro" moniker, the name "iPhone" used to be able to stand on it's own.

Market segmentation. Different monikers make the segments clearer.

And I want it to have control over space lasers, to pop any strange balloons that might be floating over my property.
I can't imagine what Apple could or would do to make it worth all the extra moolah they want to charge for something that's going to be extra Extra.

I have no idea, but if Apple does bring one out they no doubt see a market segment that will pay more for whatever features it has. If so, it's a smart move.

I agree. It's already too complicated. Apple should be simplifying its iPhone line-up and not overcomplicating it. I wish Apple just had two models, one high-end and one low-end. These two models should come in two sizes. I wonder who at Apple is thinking all that. Steve would kill all these plans immediately...

Apple is segmenting a relatively mature market vs SJ's creating a new one. Market segmentation is a way to get the most revenue from devices; something important in a mature market.

Something like this? It looks cool but I’m not sure if I’m sold on it. It looks like a Mini iPad 😂

I'm not either but a friend has one and he loves it. For me, it's simply too big to use as I use a phone; i.e. primarily calls (remember those) and quick checks of email. Even as a mapping tool when driving the current size works fine for me.

This ultra is super smart imo and the safest way of introducing these critical concepts. Solid state buttons, 100% sim free (international) And Port free. Can’t safely do that with the whole line up as the solid state buttons need the card trays space for the extra Taptic Engine’s. Sorry sim lovers. Get your self the max if that important. That’s what the 14 pros did was get us prepared for this moment just like ultra will do for us when the 16 comes out. Progressed is paved. Remove the iPhone 14 plus model in the 15 cycle. And if you look at Samsungs just released 3 phone model tier; apple may be trying to rework a similar structure. Let’s hope. I totally understand why they are releasing this ultra. Now no more complaints! I for one am excited! Boooooya!!!!!

Apple are NUTS? But also the most admired company in the world.

Hypercapitalism does weird things to people’s minds and cultures. There is a lot of admiration directed where it isn’t deserved and wasn’t earned (or was earned originally, but has long since been been burned away by repeated and stupid mistakes and selfishness that people won’t acknowledge while they keep stanning for their heroes).

Coming to Europe for just 2499euros. A bargain i might say!

Before VAT...

Problem is eSIMs are not yet universally supported by all carriers worldwide; hence non-US iPhones still having the tray.

In addition, it would be nice if Apple brings the iPhone Mini back. This should be the 2024 iPhone lineup.

  • iPhone Mini
  • iPhone Pro
  • iPhone Pro Max
  • iPhone Ultra
Move the regular iPhone line up towards the Spring and get rid of iPhone Plus.
What's the point of 'Pro' in this lineup, if all that remains from a non-pro is a mini?

Might as well be iPhone Mini, iPhone, iPhone Max and iPhone Ultra. :)

It’s a way to raise prices while pretending they’re not raising prices. If they introduce a $1500 or $2000 super duper ultra iPhone then the $1000 pro doesn’t seem that expensive.

So they want to charge even more for a mass produced device on a Chinese factory line? Or do they want to try a squeeze in an M chip and make it foldable? And charge 3 grand for it.
And if it was a bigger screen without being foldable, who wants it? Is a 6.7” screen too small for a phone? What would it be 7.5”?

Meh think I’ll buy me a 13 Pro Max in that lovely blue colour next, and keep it for years.
In all seriousness, if they made a foldable ~8” iPhone Ultra with Apple Pencil support and an M2/M3 I probably would pay three grand.

If I had to guess though, the way this would be executed could be similar to the iPhone X. The rest of the line gets their incremental update as usual, and then Apple drops ONE MORE THING as their "epic next generation leap" phone with a very very premium price to justify it. No port, no physical buttons, maybe even a new design. What would complete the package though is it having a full display with no pill/notch. Not sure if that lines up for 2024 though! Maybe 2025.
Jony’s slab of glass finally come true?

Apple’s iPhone market line is so “over saturated” it needs to be slimmed down and simplified. Not by adding another device into the lineup into an already confusing choice in my opinion.

From the article:
The rankings are those of corporate reputation, based on a poll of approximately 3,700 corporate executives, directors, and analysts.
