Iphone PRO MAX PRO

EDIT: on a more serious note, Their SKUs are way too chaotic. Basically like the old windows vista basic/home premium/ultimate/enterprise that they made fun of back in the days.
They just noticed that there are people willing to pay WAY more than $1000 for a phone just to feel better than others and they're trying hard to find a way of milking those people out of money. I just died a little when someone said it should be targeted to "the exclusive high-end loyal users" 🫣🤦‍♂️

Please Apple don’t make the iPhone lineup a big mess like the iPad lineup! What we have now is great. A base model phone and a premium phone.

The only good reason I can see for introducing a higher tier phone to compete at the $1500 range is if they introduce a foldable screen to give the “iPhone Ultra” some tablet like capabilities.

This is all just a strategy to keep pushing the average sale price higher and higher to please investors.

The Pro line is what we would have normally gotten in the regular models, but because sales are so high, Apple has no incentive to bring those features down to the regular models (Promotion, more cameras, etc.) And now the Pro line will turn into essentially a mid-tier in Apple's line-up, which sucks.

Only chance this strategy fails is if the Ultra model fails like the iPhone 12/13 mini and 14 Plus did, but I have my doubts. People like to buy the latest and greatest at any cost.

What do you mean "they just noticed"? Phones have been over $1000 for several years at this point. Samsung has phones even more expensive than Apple...and whether those phones are worth it is up to the individual making the purchase.
for a phone just to feel better than others
Pure conjecture. And while this may be true in instances, divining the motives of the masses through some internet abracadabra is not doable.
and they're trying hard to find a way of milking those people out of money.
How do you know the people who want these phones don't feel they are worth it?

Maybe the phraseology could have been better, but please don't lose your health over an anonymous internet forum discussing Apple products.

There's enough cognitive dissonance to go around.

Pros will be mediocres, not the high end, so, no longer "pro". The "ultra" will be the new pro, but basically with titanium frame and a flimsy glass so you still will use a case!.
How about no notch, at alla?. The island is horrible design, Steve would hate it. If a designer showed it as a school project he would fail the class, but if Apple does it, everyone says "genius".
I want a pro max that can be used with one hand!, the dynamic reach is pathetic and has not been updated since dinosaurs died!l cant even type phone number with one hand!.

Yep.. Android is unifying and Apple is becoming fragmented. This is due to the sheer greed of leadership.

Shareholders (the owners of the company) want Apple to generate money. That’s why they own shares. Product Vision is simply a means to that end.
See this is the fundamental difference between people who invest and people who are intelligent and change the world.

People who invest don’t understand things like the fact that making higher quality products and innovating gets you more customers and therefore more revenue and profits overall.

They simply want the company to reduce costs like trying everything they can to save extra pennies on every sale. This meanwhile is the worse strategy longer term because you’re then compromising what got them the huge sales to begin with, which was the extreme quality in materials and industrial design.

It’s best if the lower-intelligence shareholders just allow really smart people to make the right decisions. In this case, you have Tim not being very smart and following the shareholders, and leading the company toward a worse long term outcome by moving from Steve Jobs’ idea of quality and design leading to penny pinching and moving design from leading to a lower priority. Moving away from hardware to services. Etc.

They were your opinion. And I respect that, but don't agree with them.

Your opinion again. But you're right. You can't really justify your opinion, because that is what an opinion is.

I don't see that. I see Apple making great products and by being innovative expanding their universe of offerings to the consumer. I see overall revenue since 2011 going in a postive direction, due to the way Apple is innovating.

I guess it worked by the overall revenue over time.
Guy, see you’re a shareholder and fundamentally do not understand what gets profits long term.

You would crush the company.

You believe that better revenue means you’re doing great. That’s a misunderstanding and it’s a slow-moving decline when things begin to turn.

Apple was going to continue to increase in revenue for many years after 2011 no matter what. Why? Because the iPhone was a great product that had no where near saturated the market. The trajectory was up no matter what, just on the back of the iPhone.

However, now we are seeing Apple morph from what made it great thanks to Steve Jobs priority on hardware and design leading. Tim has been slowly leading it to services and putting design down. Now they’re not even hiring a new design chief…… embarrassing.

You’ll see the products and revenue slowly stagger and stumble into the future because Apple is transforming for the negative.

The iPhone 16 pro ultra could be a phablet with functionality similar to iPadOS.
I always thought a promotion display on a iPad Mini along with full 5G Cellular and Wireless might be highly attractive. Something you can use to do some work on then being constrained to current iPhones only for calls and texting. Sorta how Alan Kays Knowledge Navigator was fully capable of displaying data and doing a VTC in your office. This is thinking beyond the current iPhone vs iPad categories.

Portless strikes me as an entry level iPhone thing with Thunderbolt ports on the pro models for fast data transfer.

I cannot see the Ultra being portless unless it also targets a rugged outdoorsy customer (thicker, sturdier, battery for days, dive-capable, etc….)
portless doesn’t = wireless.

The Smart Connector is portless

The Apple naming convention, specifically the Pro designation, has historically been not just a single model but rather numerous versions that offer varying degrees of performance. It’s been the case with MBP’s and to a point with some iterations of iPhone. Offering a higher tier version of iPhone should be expected, whether that means different case materials, technologies or upgraded performance, Apple will just be providing options for consumers, which is a good thing. Suggesting that it’s going to degrade the iPhone Pro and Pro Max just because there will be a model with better something isn’t taking anything away from the Pro versions - they’ll just be expanding the breadth of the line, letting people choose just how much tech and performance they are willing to pay for.

Steve Jobs will rise from his grave and announce that he has canceled all this crap and subsequently introduce the iPhone and the iPhone Max. Just like he did once before when he returned to Apple.

We are already there lol.

Most people still use iPhones from 2016-18.
I’m still using the iPhone 6 I purchased in 2015. With all of the Apple devices I’ve bought since then I only use the phone for calls and texts. I’ll be updating this year but I’m waiting for the right model to show up on the Apple refurbished site. Probably a 12 or 13.

Guess Warren Buffett doesn’t either.

None of the MacRumors members posting in this thread would do much better.

Better revenue for a lifestyle oriented consumer electronic public corporation means that company is producing products people want. Peter Drucker 101.

Apple is a great company that has morphed. Who is this embarrassing for?

No we won’t.

I wish! Don’t think he would have allowed it. He was all about “less is more”. This is what I expect.

My sister loves her iPad mini can’t really be a phone though in the same way as a phablet.

Coming to this late, my two cents are that—as a long time Apple fan and iPhone user—I really am not excited by Apple's most recent phones. It's just more of the same old thing. Some things just seem to be getting worse, like image quality thanks to Apple's dodgy machine learning.

I like to get the best, for future proofing, but I would not be persuaded by a higher end model.

It better be foldable. I can't think of anything else that would justify ANOTHER tier of iPhone without just being an excuse to keep the best features away from models people can actually afford.

At least with my S23 Ultra I get built in pen functionality (and the pen also works as a remote control for the camera).
I have to point out.. you call the S23U yours without it even being in hands lol.

Other than different materials, a different size class and something extra with the cameras, how is Apple going to make this thing worthy of a new classification? What's the point? Will it have a customized version of iOS to give people something truly different and truly superlative?
Seems as if they taking a page out of Samsung book, but similar to you I question how would the iPhone Ultra be worthy of the name.

@I7guy pointed out it could have iPadOS functionality, but there's also the iPad mini that can get that type of functionality in a potential similar form factor. So, then what would be the point of the iPad mini?
