Touch ID is on all current SE3s.
Yup.

I like it. I had hoped for the iPhone 13 or 14 to have it. At least as a second system.
Concerning privacy protection isn't retina scanning more invasive (video surveillance use) than just taking touch fingerprint data?
Data remains on phone. Or so Apple says. The raw data is also inaccessible by applications.

I still hate Face ID on iPhones, despite having a Face ID iPhone for 2 years now.

Well, "hate" is a strong word. Perhaps it's better described as "really dislike".

Ironically, I prefer it on iPads, but I have a Touch ID iPad Pro. Why the different preferences? Cuz the usage pattern is very different on iPads than iPhones.
I think you're in the minority on this one. I think most people find FaceID to be great. I really hope apple finds a way to bring it to the mac, especially if it integrates with PassKeys.

Why make an event when you don’t have anything new to show….it’s just more of the same….same iPad, new cpu….so what….don’t think your candy crush runs better anyway

It seems crazy to me that people still think Apple will bring back Touch ID to iPhones. They aren’t Samsung they are going to mock something and then switch to using it later. Apple claims that faceid is more secure, and they will stick with that Claim.

Well, yes, it's all rumours, guesses based on limited data from the supply chain and "leaks" from sources who are, by definition, unreliable.

However, it does make sense:

- The MacBook Air and MBP 13" waited 18 months for an update. The 14/16" MBPs aren't a year old yet, so don't hold your breath.
- M1 Pro/Max already include some of the M1->M2 improvements so M2 Pro/Max MBPs might not be a big deal to shout about & could get a press release launch.
- 14/16" MBPs and "M2" Pro/Max/Ultra/Extreme might wait for 3nm to be available next year.
- A M2 Mac Mini would be a nice update from the M1, but unspectacular and wouldn't need more than a press release.
- Ditto a M2 iMac 24 - useful but unsexy update
- iMac 27"/iMac Pro is probably gone for the foreseeable - deal with it.
- Mac Pro could be underwhelming (think: rackmount Studio Ultra) or waiting for 3nm Extreme chip/hypothetical Xeon killer.

Apple has had events for less before, Grumen is wrong I think you'll find.

It sounds like the iPad Pros, Mac Mini, MacBook Pros (and maybe Apple TV) are litteraly going to be the same designs with newer chips. Don't really need an event / prerecoreded video for that.
That’s also what I gather from Gurman’s predictions.

He isn’t saying that there’ll be no new products until Q1 2023.

He’s essentially saying that he only expects spec bumps for products that are already out, and that the spec bumped products are unlikely to get anything more than a press release.

So spec bumps to Mac mini, iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, but no new display sizes or new iterations of these. Just spec bumps.

Depends what you define as an “event” -Yes, Apple will probably throw together videos for these since they’re so efficient at doing that these days.

But it’s just going to be short promotional videos showing specs and aesthetics of the devices and not a big, high production spectacle like we get for iPhone day every year.

He’s just saying to not expect more than spec bumps.

At the least it will be an event of a pre-recorded video like they have been doing already... or.... they will take the opportunity to go back to it all being live in stage if it's allowed!

Either way as far as I'm concerned Gurmen is wrong it will just be press releases on their website, here is where he was wrong last year the day before Apples launch of the iPad Mini 6:

And here is where Gurmen is claiming the new Apple devices will only be announced by press releases a store update and media briefing material:

He doesn't even think their will be a pre-recorded video, I still think he is wrong.

With the high use of phone cases, including those sold by Apple, touch ID on the power button would be a tough adjustment. It makes sense on the iPad, my mini has it and it’s fine but the phone for most would have the power button covered. In screen is not awful, I have it on my Android phones, but it’s not as good as what we had with the touch ID button that is now gone. If they can find a way to add it, I would be fine but dont need it for my personal use any longer. If they want to add it somewhere, put it on my iPad Pro as an option to face ID and while we’re at it, add face iD to my mini.
I have an iPad Air in a thick "children proof" case and the Touch ID works like a charm.

But since Face ID works with masks, it’s ok.
Face ID is more convenient than Touch ID.

I hope the next MacBook will get Face ID, too.

Gaming lol
For the three people gaming on an Apple TV?

I never even understood the point of the last update. I bought a bunch of 5th gen Apple TVs (the first 4K model), then like 3 months later Apple updated it with a new remote and basically nothing else.

I can’t imagine why they’d need to update the 4K twice. The 5th gen models work great and supports all the latest features: 4K, 120 Hz, etc.

Apple will announce it with a press release, media briefing, or update to the Apple online store.
An AS Mac Pro release will be a big deal. I think it's extremely unlikely they'd waste that on a press release.

To my mind, no more events in 2022 = no Mac Pro release in 2022.

I'm guessing they'll have a big event in spring 2023 with the Mac Pro, revised Pro Display XDR, the first 3 nm Macs and, if it's ready, VR.

They may be waiting to release the Mac Pro until they can put it on 3 nm, which would give them the die space to add hardware RT. If so, at best, there may be a press release to mollify the pro community along the lines of: "We're waiting a bit to release the Mac Pro to give you something really special."

Plus they probably realize their existing Mac Pro customers aren't yet in a rush to upgrade, since some important Intel-based pro video apps are still in the process of being ported over to AS.

I cannot see Apple releasing a MacPro without having an event. They've hyped it up too much and mentioned it as the "last Mac" to make the transition.
They can press release it...nothing special about 4xM2 Ultra and half the size of the current Mac Pro
Or, and this is more likley they wait for January event when the AR/VR glass will be introduce as part of the developing system
Apple will announce it with a press release, media briefing, or update to the Apple online store.
What about the Mac Pro? I would think that would need an event and if it doesn't arrive this year Apple will miss their transition deadline.

ASi Mac Pro definitely needs an Event, no way Apple introduces a new Apple silicon product (which also happens to be their halo Mac product) and closes out their transition in a press release...

The new remote actually removed functionality aswell as it doesn't have the accelerometer and gyro.

My theory is they put out a new higher end model of Apple TV (more memory, better chip and add a new remote with the accelerometer and gyro) at a the same price point as the current ATV 4k and the model that was updated last year drops in price.

This would explain the references to a new remote in iOS 16 and the leak about 'improving the cost structure' of the Apple TV lineup

I agree though nobody cares about gaming on the Apple TV.
