I’m down with an update. What I want is a cheaper used M1 Pro 10 core MBP (14” & 16” are running about $1650+ used). If an M2 Pro model came out, the prices on the current models would go down, I’d keep a computer out of a landfill, and get all the performance and ports I want.

How does having Covid impact FaceID? Anyway FaceID supports masks for about a year now, and Watch unlock for about 2 years.

Try wearing a hat and a Face Mask. If you think it works well, then you must be on some serious medication beyond COVID. Not every one has a watch and FaceID's mask support is lame. Stop playing the old Steve Jobs "It's a Feature" game with yourself. You're abusing your brain.

I don’t trust Bloomberg, so these comments mean nothing to me. This guy’s track record seems to be based on obvious or well known rumors.

I still think there will be another event this year — at the very least, part of the event could be a refresher on the features of macOS and iPadOS (I think they used to touch on this in the past). I think the best videos that Apple has produced have been the individual WWDC sessions, so I don’t know why they can’t just use this format. These would take less time to produce, and they would be easier to watch and much less distracting.

If no event or announcement occurs for the rest of 2022, given that the event would be a huge milestone for the conversion to AS plus the fact it is the Mac Pro, Apple might depart from their usual March event to do one in January. That early hasn't happened since 2010 but there's no real reason it shouldn't.

Just don't use it then if it ever comes with it? The more options the user has to choose from the better, I don't see what's bad on that. And by the way, under the screen finger print sensors work pretty good on Androids, I don't see why Apple couldn't make something even more reliable and then it's up to the user to choose which one to use depending on the situation.

You are talking about it like it's just another obsolete technology, yet it's still on your Mac...
Apple won’t let users to decide between faceid and touchid. You know it’s too complicated for average Joe, I guess.

Touch ID is still Apple's biggest iPhone failure, especially since they missed the entire COVID pandemic. And I recently got COVID and found Face ID to be a complete pain, nearly unworkable. Get your act together Apple. Where is the awesome engineering?
I love it when people have a one off experience and then can’t understand why Apple won’t fix something that didn’t happen to the other billion phones out there. My personal feelings must be validated!!

Except Gurman has an extremely strong track record of accurately predicting dates and event content, far better than anybody else. And how do you prove a negative? :)

He is good with the tech specs, he still got the iPad Mini totally wrong. We shall see.

And considering they have it on macs, it’s not a dead tech.

Apple is developing new iPad Pro, Mac, and Apple TV models,
Happy to see some rumors and articles that are not iPhone and AW related.

The ATV rumor has been around for a while in different forms, I wonder if it will ever happen. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple just discontinues it.

Apple will announce it with a press release, media briefing, or update to the Apple online store.
Its too big to press announce it. It will mark the end of the transition. It is needed to discuss expandability and something a bit better than M* processors.

I have an iPad Air in a thick "children proof" case and the Touch ID works like a charm.

But since Face ID works with masks, it’s ok.
Face ID is more convenient than Touch ID.

I hope the next MacBook will get Face ID, too.

FaceID is exactly as convenient as TouchID. One requires you to touch the home button, the other requires you to swipe up from the bottom of the screen. Your thumb is going to the exact same part of the of the phone for the same amount of time.

If anything FaceID is less convenient, because you can't unlock the phone when it is flat on the desk next to you.

Both are more convenient than a passcode, and FaceID allowed that convenience and security in a full screen phone.

No reason not to incorporate the Touch ID side button on pro models and have the option to use either face or Touch ID when appropriate. and for those that want two layers of security even better. Give us options. same with the iPad pros and Macs.

Also really would prefer a larger screen iMac to make a return next year.
I don’t think iOS and the Secure Enclave support more than one secure biometric sensors. Apple would need to tweak and redesign things majorly, and for what, just to add a less scure biometric? The cost would outweigh the benefits (and profits).

I don’t understand why people want under screen TouchID. The current tech for that is inferior to the capacitive TouchID. Optical, ultra sonic, they’re all still inferior to capacitive. The capacitive fingerprint sensor is still superior in speed and accuracy.

And since Apple has placed TouchID as the biometric for the “cheaper” models (iPhone SE, regular iPad), they wouldn’t put TouchID back on their flagship iDevices again. It would “cheapen” those products in the eye of consumers.

I thought the iPad Pros were rumored to be launched via press release anyway.

I would really like to see an upgraded Apple TV with the A14 or higher, and also curious to see if they release a less expensive version.
Yeah, I’m amazed that Apple is still selling the A8 AppleTV for $150 today. Good grief, make it at least $99 or something, or at least put something newer inside.

I don't want Touch ID, mainly because it doesn't work for me. I have very faint fingerprints, and have yet to encounter a machine that can reliably read them.
