If Apple wants Arcade to succeed, they need to release a new ATV with larger storage options.

If Apple wants Arcade to succeed they need to get some AAA games on it. They could release an AppleTV with the power of the Xbox Series X and it would still be a terrible gaming system without compelling games.

So the M2 Pro mini will support more than two external monitors I’m guessing? The M1 mini is limited to two.

ye they need to release a new mac mini with m1 ultra or m1 max
That's what the Mac Studio is for. A Mac Mini M2 Pro removes the last intel Mini from the product line and slots in between the base M1 Mini and the Max/Ultra studio. In Australia, the M1 mini starts at ~AU1100 and the base Mac Studio is ~$AU3100. Slotting a M2 Pro Mini in at ~$AU2100 would make sense to me.

As someone reminded me earlier in another thread, the difference with the MacBook Air is that the M2 model comes with all sorts of other upgrades over the M1 model, for that $200.

Yeah, but I imagine we’ll see the same on the mini. Its design is long in the tooth.

I wouldn’t expect the mini + BTO options to be a way better deal than the Studio. That wouldn’t make sense for Apple to do.

There is a potential downgrade in the entry level M2 Air model though, which is a slower SSD. (The M2 13" Pro has a much slower SSD than the M1 13" Pro.)

I’m guessing that’s only on configs where the second slot is empty.

Because the Apple TV is already overpowered for what it needs to do anyway.
Maybe its related to the mythical combined Apple TV and HomePod concept from 2021?

"What I’ve imagined is essentially a stretched Apple TV box, around the width of 4 Apple TV 4Ks. The sides are covered in the same mesh as HomePod and speakers are hidden behind it. In the center, there’s a wide angle camera lens for FaceTime calls tucked away behind the mesh to keep the front of the device clean on your shelf. On the far-right side, instead of the existing white light that acts as a power indicator, the Siri lights could appear behind the mesh. It could show up when you’re talking to Siri both through a remote or on the speaker itself. When one calls, it could glow green to represent a camera indicator as well."

I wonder why Gurman is not cashing in around publicity space.. his name is mentioned here every other thread on this forum, while a lot off youtube Iinfluencers barely do get mentioned here. Is that because macrumors is a small community ?

For a long time, Gurman and Ming Chi Kuo had a reputation as being two of the most accurate sources of Apple leaks. Lately, not so much. I'd take Gurman more seriously than the vast majority of tech YouTubers.

Happy to hear that a HomePod with superior audio performance (vs. the mini) is on the horizon.
Yeah same here. I have two classic HomePods which were set up in stereo on my kitchen bench top. Sadly the woofer blew in my left one and it was going to cost me the same as a new one to 'repair' it. I was very disappointed when they discontinued them as the sound quality truly is phenomenal from these tiny little speakers. I'm what you would call a bit of an audiophile, and am fortunate to own a very large system in my home theatre with multiple 18" subs etc.. yet I was still totally impressed by the low frequency output of even a single homePod. With two homePods the bass is even more impressive. Anyway, long story, but am happy to hear a new one is on the horizon as I will buy two to replace my older models.

Its weird tant Apple had the luxury to plan their chip naming scheme and chose such confusing and overlapping names like Pro, Max, Ultra, Extreme. From a customer perspective, these name are not particularly great to know which one is appropriate to their needs. Arguably, people in the market for an M2 Ultra or M2 Extreme chip will probably already know what they need, but still, I think Apple could have chosen something more simple and coherent

But other than this minor detail, I’m very curious to se the capabilities of this M2 Extreme chip, even if I’m far from needing one
What’s so confusing about Pro, Max, Ultra and Extreme?

The only way I see Apple making a move to support 8k with the AppleTV in the near to mid-term is if it is related to gaming. Even then and with no TV / movie content, including ATV+, it's still highly unlikely.

There’s not a clear hierarchy between them, in my opinion. Why Extreme is better than Ultra? Why Max is better than Pro? I can see this naming scheme being confusing for the average Joe, even if the average Joe probably don’t need anything more than the base M1 or M2

Just my two cents, there are obviously people here who like this naming scheme, so maybe it’s just me

If the M2 mini doesnt come with 32GB or more I will pass. 16GB max on the M1 sucks. Probably be long wait time for custom orders like the studio is now. Guess I’ll hold off until the new M2 is announced before deciding. Almost bought a studio but will wait.

A 32 GB mini will probably require the M2 Pro, and at that point we’re easily talking $1700. Might as well get the Studio.

In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, Mark Gurman outlined additional M2 Macs on Apple's product roadmap, including new Mac mini models with M2 and M2 Pro chips, new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, and a new Mac Pro tower with M2 Ultra and "M2 Extreme" chips.

Following the M2 series of Macs, Gurman said the first M3 series of Macs will include an updated 13-inch MacBook Air, an all-new 15-inch MacBook Air, a new iMac, and potentially a new 12-inch notebook that is "still in early development."

Gurman said Apple is developing several additional devices that could launch later this year and beyond, including a new Apple TV with an A14 chip and an increased 4GB of RAM, a new HomePod with the same S8 chip coming to the Apple Watch Series 8, an AR/VR headset that may have an M2 chip and 16GB of RAM, iPad Pro models with the M2 chip, a new low-end iPad with an A14 chip and a USB-C port, new AirPods Pro, and more.

Gurman said the new HomePod will be closer to the original in terms of size and feature an updated display on the top of the speaker:As for the S8 chip for the Apple Watch Series 8 and new HomePod, Gurman said he was told it will have the same specifications as the S7 and S6 chips in previous models. Gurman said the S8 chip may also be used in the next Apple Watch SE.

Gurman also reiterated that he expects Apple to release a larger iPad with a 14-inch to 15-inch display within the next two years.

Any news on a larger iMac??

Currently Apple effectively has no sound system, because the sound from HomePod Minis is terrible and the superb-sounding HomePods were discontinued. New (real) HomePods would be a big plus; without them no decent surround sound is feasible.
Apple failed to go into that market due to the HomePod being too expensive. Apple should charge less and make a companion soundbar instead.
